XBOX 360 of PS3??
OK...I am a *PC Gamer* at my core...but with the family, there is are certain advantages and positives to owning a Console as well.

No, piss on that Yonni, I'm not letting him off the hook this time. The man is so predictably aweful somebody should at least make him aware of it. I can be a dick too, and frequently am, but I at least OCCASIONALY deign to contribute in a meaningful way to a conversation, something that nard is incapable of.

Wow, this from Yellowjacket, this is ironic.
YJ, with respect, krellin can be as useful and contributing as you can. Both of you are extreme jerks sometimes. You are somewhat more likely than krellin to come across as being a deliberate jerk. Please let's not have a who's-the-more-useful-troll argument. You are in no position to keep anybody on any hooks.

With an attempt to get back on topic, I don't thin you can go wrong with either. They each have certain games that are exclusive to that console, which is why I went XBOX rather than PS3 (Bioshock mostly). If you don't have any specific games in mind, I would probably go PS3 as they seem to last longer (at least from the experiences of myself and my friends) and they have Blu-Ray if thats a big deal.

Kinect is a lot of fun for the 360. Haven't tried out Playstation move, so I don't have an opinion on that to share.

Yelowjacket...if I care to waste the time, I will post about 50 links tomorrow refuting global warming. Of course, being the brain washed asshole that you are, you will read none of them and yet somehow refute them all. thus is the nature of your particular brand of stupidity.
krellin (80 DX)
10 Dec 11 UTC
And Yellow....to you, "contributing in a meaningful way" to a conversation means ONLY contribution that agree with you. I post ligical arguements all the time....you, typically, are too LAZY and/or too stupid to read/comprehend them and reply appropriately. The NORM is for you to do EXACTLY what you have doe here: Attack me PERSONALLY without having the intellectual capacity to address the topic.

As for Roller/semck/Tom....thanks guys for trying to keep it on topic.

@TheHeat / Yonni -- your discussion of Free on-line play, blue-ray capability, and homeintegration is a *definite* plus in terms of my families needs.

QUESTION: Can a PS3 access my Home network and pull video from other storage devices to play. I have a lot of movies on hard drive that I'd like to stream to the TV...can PS3 do that?
ghug (5068 D(B))

Krelin, I tried to read the thread, but there was a shitstorm so I stopped.

Basically, the 360 has better online play (albeit more costly, PS3 is free) and better unique games, though the PS3 wins that in quantity I think. The PS3 has better graphics and acts as a bluray player. People say that the XBOX has hardware issues, but those seem to have significantly died down with newer models (mine has lasted fine for several years, and only one of my many friends who own them has ever redringed, and Microsoft was really good about fixing it). The Kinect is an awesome and unmatched hardware/software combo. What makes the difference for me is the controller, really. I absolutely hate the PS3 controller, the directional pad on top just makes it so awkward; I will adamantly disagree with YJ and say that the XBOX controllers have always been better than their PS counterparts. That's all really, good luck.

Thanks for the perspective semck :) but I don't think my style is anything like Krellin's - sure, I get my chuckles, but they are usually a bit more subtle than just calling somebody one of a thousand variations of "idiot" every 4 seconds just for disagreeing with me or whatever other perceived slight I may feel. The above is about as close to a personal attack as I've gotten on old Krel. I guess I did call him a tool :P

I want articles Krellin, not links. I can post links saying the holocaust didn't happen - that don't make it so. I want peer reviewed articles, which you have now promised for the umpteenth time yet are thus far utterly incapable of delivering.

C'mon pal, you wouldn't want to be humbled yet again by a corporate-scientist zombie stoolie like old YJ would you? Especially since I'm so lazy and stupid and utterly lacking in intellectual capacity: that would then be doubly embarrassing for you, wouldn't it?

Something tells me you won't care to "waste the time" though.

But point ceded Semck on the "deliberate jerk," thing.

When I do it, it's almost always on purpose. What can I say, it's for the lulz? If I can make a few people laugh, so much the better. If not, well I'm laughing hard enough for everybody :)

xbox

1) I find the xbox controller physically more comfortable. Obviously, this is a personal preference, but it's worth considering.

2) xbox LIVE. You have to pay for the subscription, but the online experience of the xbox is vastly superior to the PS3.

3) I don't know how good Kinect is, but the PS3 motion control is a steaming pile of shit. I don't know if you've ever seen it, but it detects motion based off of visible light, so you need to hold a giant, glowing, dildo-shaped controller. It's really bright, which really fucks your peripheral vision. It doesn't work well at all.

4) Ecosystem. With MS making phones now, there's a decent chance you'll start to see cool platform cross-over between PCs, xbox, and phones. That would be pretty cool.

I have to disagree with hellalt re: Skyrim. I've played for 20 hours and don't see myself stopping any time soon. I'm really not a big RPG fan, which makes that more impressive.

I really enjoy being able to do pretty much whatever I want. If a mission doesn't interest me, I don't do it. If a character is a dick, I steal his shit or kill him. If someone's nice, I give them stuff. It has a surprising amount of choice for a game. Also, the combat is pretty enjoyable. Not on par with a real FPS, but still great fun.

"Can a PS3 access my Home network and pull video from other storage devices to play. I have a lot of movies on hard drive that I'd like to stream to the TV...can PS3 do that?"

Yes, my roommate has it set up to stream from his computer and his phone. It's a bit of a bitch to set up and only supports certain formats, but it does do it.

Thanks for the feedback, folks. I think my wife and kids are intrguied by the Kinect, though i have seen mixed reviews - though I did watch some kid boxing in Best Buy the other day. Looked pretty cool.

@YJ - So instead of 50 links TO articles, you want me to post 50 articles, huh? Moron...just more proof that you are unwilling to do a little opposition research on your own. People post links on here all the time, fool - the purpose being so that I don't fill up 50 pages, Pretty basic concept...and you can't grasp that, Mr. Corporate Scientist? Pathetic.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))

rofl... is this your idea of a good dodge?

Yes Krellin, links to ARTICLES would be fine. Links to Shell Inc.'s website saying 'studies show' without referencing are not. Understand? Pretty basic concept? You wouldn't want to be seen as a guy who is unwilling to do a little research on your OWN side, would you? No, you wouldn't set yourself up that badly. You wouldn't want to be perceived as that stupid.

Take your time. Though I'm sure with all that 'lack of consensus' you've claimed the scientific community has it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to find some REAL quality articles.

I don't have the time or energy to look at all of them. It's a very impressive looking collection that Krellin has posted here. No doubt I will be convinced by what I'm about to read, so without further ado, starting in the left column, working my way down.

Need I go on? Really, Krellin, THIS trash is your idea of scientific evidence? These are little better than opinion columns! Few if any are written by scientists, none of them site sources, none of them are peer reviewed. And you have the fucking nerve to say that there is no scientific consensus on GW? Have you read even ONE peer reviewed scientific article? Clearly not or you would have done much better.

But I digress, now allow me to counterpoint.

http://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=global+warming&hl=en&btnG=Search&as_sdt=1%2C50&as_sdtp=on

download the full pdf of any one of the EIGHT HUNDRED AND NINETY SEVEN THOUSAND peer reviewed articles that come up. Some wont allow access but you'll get the gist.

Would you like to keep running this farce, Krellin, you tool, or finally concede that you have no fucking clue what you're talking about? I'm cool to keep humiliating you for as long as you like, of course. Maybe its time to stop getting your science from talk radio, huh? Let me know if you want to lern2science I'll be happy to help.

gwahaha. Haha. Ha. Ha ... pwned... YJ.

Yellowjacket, you did not read a single article, only titles. You didn't read the whole list....you came in, as expected, with disdain and a closed mind. You proved 8exactly* my point.

By the way, the idea of "peer review" in climate circles is you can offer comments if you have the pre-belief that the "data" being presented in correct. Those scientists that have offered critical review of climate data often find themselves without jobs and the subject of malicious attack, and black-balling within the scientific community.

I understand you have your preconceived notions. I understand that you believe the perr-review is the end all and be all, and that science in incorruptible. That is why you are such a good little lap-dog so-called scientist.

I doubt you have read any of the 870k papers you cite, either. As is obvious from you pattern of behavior, you shoot off your mouth, but never have much to back it up with other than disdain and insults.

Try actually 8reading* something before you criticize the titles.

I fully admit that some of the link in that list were interviews --- interviews with credible scientists, at times...

some of them are commentary pieces...as much of the "pro" global warming propgana is

Some of them are liegimate scientific pieces....you probably stopped when you got to those.

But you proved me right...you were unwilling to review what was presented to you. Yo hypocrisy remains unquestioned....You are the king of hypocrites.

Yellowjacket (835 D(B))

ROFL - judging by your argument, you've given up completely then? You do not decide (or understand, apparently) what peer reviewed means. Just because you say it is true or somebody says some scientist says it's true does not make it true! (or even reputable) This is why we cite our sources, and submit our results to the scrutiny of fellow experts, both of which your sources have utterly failed to do (and yes, I profusely apologize for not reading more than 25 articles, but could I expect anything different/better, honestly?). This stuff you posted is garbage; no scientist would take it in the slightest bit seriously. You know who DOES take it seriously? People who listen to conservative talk radio. People like you who mistakenly think you are qualified to discuss this with experts (or even those with a basic understanding of scientific processes).

I'm not going to let you off the hook, Krellin. I'll give you an easier task. Provide just a COUPLE of credible peer reviewed results (the only kind of result accepted by the scientific community, by the way) or by omission you admit that the consensus I have demonstrated is legitimate. C'mon, the 900K articles I gave you aren't filtered... I'm sure you can find one or two in there that support your views :P

Seriously, you're only embarrassing yourself further at this point. You've tried to pass yourself off as somebody well versed in this, and you are fooling nobody. You simply do not know what you are talking about!
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
10 Dec 11 UTC
Tell you what Krellin we'll make a fun game out of it... you use a RNG to pick numbers between 1 and 897000... pull out the article corresponding to the result... and repeat until you find one you agree with.

Then tell me how many misfires it took to get there. THAT, sir... is your consensus.
I have an Xbox 360 with Kinect and my family loves it. I have girls aged 9 and 11. They adore Dance Central (and Dance Central #2 is top on their Christmas List). To me, Kinect makes all the difference. I can't believe the other systems still are competitive when Xbox has Kinect. We have Xbox Live, and also run our Netflix through Xbox (I don't know if you can do that with PS3). Someday, your kids will tell their kids how when they were very young, game consoles had these physical devices called controllers, which will be very hard to believe. (My controllers for non-Kinect games are wireless with bluetooth, I assume PS3 has the same.)

To the extent it matters to you with respect to your girls and their friends, in my community all the cool kids have Xbox 360 with Kinect.
