i made a batch of wassail tonight
To celebrate the true meaning of Christmas ... Rowdy drinking and insisting that your neighbors feed you and give you drink.

You do that to your neighbors every day though.

Bit early for Wassail, isn't It? We won't have ours for a few weeks.

i don't drink or do christmas-y things or attend renaissance fairs, therefore i don't know shit about "wassail", but i assume "i made a batch of wassail" has to be said as if gerard butler was saying it in "the 300"

I thought it was a Christmas thing. There are carols about it and everything

With the aid of. Wikipedia it seems that your Wassail is very different from ours. Never heard of carol singing called wassailing before, nor indeed the concept of a batch of wassail.

Ours is all about blessing apple trees for a good harvest. Officially Christian, but has a very pagan look about it

@Oct, Not sure who the "your" and "ours" are in your post, this is an English thing going back centuries. So unless you were making a distinction about different parts of England, then it seems to me that they are both yours.

West England serenades fruit trees, it seems.

Different parts of England. Wassail, as Draug keenly observes, is all about drinking cider and celebrating apple trees in a night time festival down our way. Carol singing has always just been called carol singing, and I have no idea what a batch of wassail would be. Does it have to be a certain sort of drink?

Wassail (the drink) is cider mixed with OJ and pineapple juice and then it often gets booze added to it. We had some last night.

I guess it can be different things but always seems to be apple based as it's primary (probably from Oct's tradition).

Here is one from Food Network.

A non alcoholic recipe similar to what we had last night.

I made the one draug posted from alton brown. He hosts a show called "good eats" about the science and history of food and cooking.

I used port instead of Madiera though, because the grocery store I went to didn't have Madiera.

my mexican neighbors are screaming at eachother right now in spanish.
Reminds me of a Facebook post of a sign that said "For Lease" with a phone number after it ("To Let" for my UK/irish friends). The number was spray painted river and written above was "navidad". Hahaha forlease navidad. Gotta love the taggers with the Christmas spirit! Who, I just heard a gunshot! They're probably just celebrating the birth of our lord, but I should take cover just the same. Out!

train efficiency
Rather then losing momentum by stopping at train stations, a moving platform system like a stretchable flat escalator should allow trains to scoop up and roll off passengers at speed. Discuss.
