The site needs a banner.
We are having far too many cheating accusations on the forum. It would be nice if it was stated clearly and visibly that it should not happen.

What are they? I've seen mentions of them, but I'm in the dark as to what they actually are. Would someone care to elaborate?

Best Webdip Chess Player?
I think it would be interesting to find out who the best chess player on webdip is and see if there is any correlation between that and their GR. Though they would likely be very good at tactics, I know a lot of people who are good at chess and socially awkward, which I would think would make them less likely to be able to effectively negotiate.

What are your thoughts? Would anyone be interested in setting up some type of chess tournament?

There is no strategy for Austria
When Turkey, Italy and Russia attack you there is no strategy to survive. I would even say that if two of the three attack you and there is no third person who tries to ally with you, you just die. Does anyone have a successful history with Austria? its my least favorite starting point because there is basically no hope for a win

Gunboat-273 EOG
Its not EOG, because someone wont hit draw, but the line is not moving for 3 turns now, is there a way to force it to end?
Draugnar (0 DX)

Email the mods, don't discuss it here. That is a violation of the rules of gunboat and a very serious violation the mods *will* enforce.

And I answered it. I wasn't rude. I just let you know that talkign about an ongoing gunboat was a violation as I figured you were unaware.

[email protected] is the address, It can be found under the site rules under help.

I figured it was in tehre somewhere, but in a 5 min game, I was struggling to do everything in life, play and find the answer to my question.
CSteinhardt (9560 D(B))

I believe you should email the mods if you need help, although I haven't tried it before. If no centers change hands for 2-3 game years, I believe the mods are supposed to draw the game if powers aren't setting draw. Are you sure you have the right game, though? A center changed hands this turn in the game you seem to be talking about. If centers are changing hands, I would not expect the mods to draw it.
Stressedlines (1559 D)
02 May 12 UTC
yes C, I saw that also, but it had not changed hands for a while until just the last few turns, but the line is set.

I did email the mods though. thanks for the help guys, it was a new experience for me.

so what was the sense of moving turkish fleet back in autumn 1911?
CSteinhardt (9560 D(B))
02 May 12 UTC
Yes, and now I set draw.

I'm sorry, but the game was *not* drawn before this turn. I expected to finish eliminating Austria and Italy, and then set a 5-way draw because EFGR had a clear line.

However, the turn I eliminated Italy, England stabbed France for Belgium. I don't think you'll find a competent player anywhere who will take a draw when one of the powers holding a line against him has just stabbed another. It's not just reasonable, but almost obligatory for me at that point to wait and see what happens, hoping either that a solo opens up or that it's a reduced draw. Then England pulled Germany units off the line, took a center off Germany, so I backed off France to see if a reduced draw was possible. As soon as England answered that he wanted the 5-way by ceasing his forward march, I set draw.
CSteinhardt (9560 D(B))
02 May 12 UTC
However, you need to know that it's entirely inappropriate for you to start a forum thread claiming the game is over when it's patently not. I understand you wished for it to be over, and that you wished for England to stop and take the draw. If I were England, I would have taken the draw. But, this England had other thoughts, and in a nopress game, it's a serious violation to try and communicate with him.
GiveItATry (114 D)
02 May 12 UTC
that was not a stab - just a transformation of an french fleet into an english army
Stressedlines (1559 D)
02 May 12 UTC
There was a big reason for this (otehr than I didnot know how it worked) in that I have to leave for something that came up out of the blue, and I did not want the game decided on me leaving.

Heck, I did not know if turkey could sit there and wait all day and just keep waiting for someone to CD and get a win.

^What CS just said. And that was my point in the first response. It is patent cheating to discuss an ongoing gunboat.

Italy (ceto) and Austria (me) seemed to play to confirm CSteinhardt's recent advice on Austria. Italy attacked me and lost, as Italy almost always does when attacking Austria. And I thought I had to keep Trieste, so I lost Vienna and Galicia. I should have read CSteinhardt's treatise before playing this game.

That Turkish retreat from the West Mediterranean, as his open invitation to England to attack France, was wonderful to behold. I actually invited other people in the office to look at the map. I used it as a concrete example to demonstrate the essence of Diplomacy, but that supreme treachery never materialized. In the end, Italy and I were the only losers :(
CSteinhardt (9560 D(B))
02 May 12 UTC
@Stressed: If any of the powers on the line against me had gone into CD, of course I would have set draw. That's only fair, and it was clearly a line.

The general rule used many other places is that unless a power can demonstrate a compelling reason (I can give you an example of a compelling reason if you're interested) to a moderator, a game is forcibly drawn after three years of nothing changing hands. In this case, I know how to read a map, and intended to set draw at the moment it was clear to me the 5-way draw was the best result I could obtain, but not before. Which would have been when Italy was eliminated if not for England taking Belgium, and instead was the moment England made it clear he wasn't willing to try and take more centers.

@GiveItATry: I pulled back because I felt a 5-way draw was a disappointing result, and that especially given that I was on 16 instead of 17, you might be willing to swallow France if I backed off and made it possible for you to do so without risking a solo. Or, for France to decide to punish you for Belgium, perhaps cutting you out of the draw. It didn't work, but that was the intention.

the emergency was 600 sheep loose of mine in a field that was not mine.

They dont take long to round up, but I did not want them wandering into the road, or some dogs chasing them and getting killed by my Livestock Protection dogs 9which they will do without hesitation).

I really just did not know the answer and was looking for it, and having trouble.

600 sheep loose in a field that was mined, on the other hand, would have been even more of an emergency!
