How to get a sitter
My wife has reached full term and could go into labor any day now. So I figured I would go ahead and try and get sitters now while I have time (so that others don't have to wait later). The problem is I have no idea how the process works. What steps do I need to take?

Italian A Tyrolia to Munich has got to be one of the worst early game moves.
Unless this is carefully arranged bilaterally, I cannot possibly see any merit to this whatsoever. Yet I've been hit by it not once but multiple times recently, so clearly someone disagrees... so can someone tell me what the point of this move is?

A second new WTA Game
I've got one that started up with a low pot (25 D) and I'll be looking to fill a second WTA 2-day phase game. Looking for takers and the buy-in is up for discussion depending on need.

The title's misleadingly provocative, but this is an interesting analysis of how China's political system is facing real challenges.

Do people understand the meaning of diplomacy?
This is a very clever game, but I have to say there is a fine line between being diplomatic and lying your butt off, and I have to say I'm not impressed by the way some players play.

Forum Sadness...
There used to be a time when I used to keep refreshing my home page to see what was new on the forums. Now there's just so much trash talk and so many muted threads/people that my forum column on the home page is just empty. Screw you trolls. You ruined my webdip experience.

NEW GAME
Hi forum! I'm in two games right now and will drop down to 0 pretty soon. I'd like to start a new game with those interested. It will be:
WTA, non-anon (preferred), 2-day phases, 25 D buy-in. Please post interest below. I'll set up the game next week (likely), and if we generate enough interest, maybe multiple games.

The upcoming Wolverine movie at least has a good poster.

@SD The Marvel Digital collection is like 15 a month. Cheaper if you pay for a years subscription. You can use it on multiple computers at the same time and they are always updating. Only reason why I get to read Marvel these days.

@Draig While Wolverine is awesome, i adore Ice-Man. He's an interesting character to see develop and is actually an Omega level though not everyone remembers that.
SacredDigits (102 D)
28 Mar 12 UTC
Yeah, I've tried it, but I just can't read comics on computers. Even reading them in trade feels weird to me.

Funny thing about Wolverine, to me, is that they were ready to write him out and call it a day within a dozen or so issues of him joining the X-Men, due to a pretty complicated issue among creators. You'll note that he's one of the few "new" X-Men that doesn't show up on the cover of that issue 94 in my pic, when they all joined. If John Byrne hadn't taken over the art and co-plotting from Dave Cockrum, he'd have been long gone before most people had even heard of him.
Celticfox (100 D(B))

Interesting,. Did not know that. I tend to know plot lines not stuff like that. If we both go to Cinci I'll bring my marvel trivia book with me. Has like 20k questions over everything Marvel.
SacredDigits (102 D)
28 Mar 12 UTC
Well, a little known fact about me is that I did interviews with a bunch of comic creators for a comic news website as a sideline about, hell, ten, fifteen years ago. I talked with Dave Cockrum a few times not long before his sad and untimely death, and that was one bitter guy who was willing to air out all the skeletons.

My God, it only now occurs to me that I'm not entirely joking when I say I've held just about every job ever.

I love Wolverine and Rogue, but only rogue as presented in the comics and cartoon. I didn't like Rogue being a "girl" in the movies. sort of ruined the whole "damn is she built!" idea that someone so hot would kill you just kissing you. Oh, and I mean the cartoon from the early 90s, not X-Men: Evolution or whatever it was called.

If anyone has been watching them, there is a newer Japanese version of X-Men and a Wolverine spinoff that are both pretty good, although not 100% canon.
SacredDigits (102 D)
28 Mar 12 UTC
Well, none of the cartoons were 100% canon, but Wolverine and the X-Men is a pretty good cartoon, yes.

And I liked Rogue back when I read comics a lot, but it's my understanding that her powers got switched around in odd ways I don't entirely understand.
Celticfox (100 D(B))
28 Mar 12 UTC
Her powers are always fucked up cause of the nature of her mutation.

Professor X blocked her secondary mutation which would of allowed Rogue to control when her powers activated. Why I can't remember and I could be wrong even about that. Professor X is one fucked up dude sometimes though.

That's one thing I loved about First Class.

Xavier was a bit of a douche, just like he is in any flashback sequence.

Deadly Genesis is maybe the number one most dickish. Sends a team to rescue the X-Men...they all die...sweeps it under the rug and pulls together another team to rescue the X-Men.

Omg yes. The ONslaught storyline is another really good example. Had a file on how to kill every character.
@SD: Ah, that would explain it. Living Pharaoh is one of my early X-Men blind spots. I know there was the story line but I don't know what happened. Same with the Erik the Red storyline.

Dang, now I want to go to Cincy F2F.

11 D recently did a poll of top Superhero movies. Here is the list:

Dark Knight, The (Bale)
Iron Man (Downey Jr.)
Batman Begins (Bale)
Spider-Man (Maguire)
X-Men (Stewart, Jackman, etc.)
Kick-Ass (Johnson, Moretz)
X-Men: First Class (McAvoy, etc.)
Watchmen (Crudup, Akerman, etc.)
X-Men 2: X-Men United (Stewart, Jackman, etc.)
Spider-Man 2 (Maguire)
Batman (Keaton)

I, for one, fucking hated the Spider-Man movies but maybe I need to see them again. Other than that - I may not agree with the order - but it captures most of the best superhero movies.

What about the 80s Superman series with Christopher Reeves? Superman and Superman II were very very very good. Very very very very very good.
Celticfox (100 D(B))

Superman is probably my least favorite super hero so I've probably not seen a superman movie in 15 years.
Draugnar (0 DX)
30 Mar 12 UTC
But Superman II with Chris and Terence Stamp (who would later do the voice of Jor-El in the Smallville TV series) is just the best Superman movie to date.

And I agree. I'm more of a Batman fan when it comes to DC. No superpowers, just a brain and training/martial arts, and some really cool gadgets. Sort of James Bond in body armor and a mask. Of course, I'm a huge 007 fan, so it fits.
I can't legitimately put Kick-Ass at the top of the list, but I want to. LOVE Hit-Girl.

And how about "Mystery Men"? I just love that flick. Mr. Furious, The Blue Rajah, Shoveler, The Bowler, Spleen, Invisible Boy, plus Geoffrey Rush as the bad guy with one truly cool Corvette limosine!

Mystery Men was awesome. Not many people realize it was based on an indie comic (Flaming Carrot Comics). And I also really liked Hellboy and Men in Black.

LOL Superdickery. What a genius site.

Although to be fair, many of the Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane covers are relics of the fact that those weren't really intended to be in continuity. They were tangentially related humor and romance comics, and Lois in particular often made sure to state that on the cover.

Many years ago, as part of my "comic reporting days" we plotted out and drew a cover for the "lost" issue of Jimmy Olsen, I'm going to ask my friends from that era if anyone knows where to find it. If they do, I'll post it.

That would be fucking awesome. Id pay some serious money to see it if it was done well. It may be better done as a mini-series on tv.
