Perhaps I was unclear? Putin said it is impossible to solicit a girl in a non-douche way because of conditioning from douches. I said it *wasn't* impossible, but harder. That wasn't to imply that you should go the douche route just because it's easier. You should still be respectable, even if it is more likely to fail.

That's why even if I wasn't a mod, I still wouldn't mute people. Creates much too much confusion when you willingly filter information from an active conversation.

@abge - re: muting.

*shrug* I don't really have the need to listen to what every person on the net says, on the off chance it contributes to the conversation. I freely use mute on Fark, where the Troll ratio is much higher, and as far as I can tell I don't miss a thing. I go there for snark, not to "win" a debate on the topic du jure.

Here, I use it more sparingly, but I'm not feeling I've lost anything by choosing to mute a handful of people. They don't have me calling them a loon every time they write something I find idiotic, so they win too. Less aggravation all around.

@mafia - I figured that out when I saw the "space between girl and friend" comment, but I had already written my post, so I fired it off anyway. I don't have a lot of friends of either gender who overshare at this point, primarily because my 'shock' limit tends to be much higher than people who don't know me well assume, and because between work and my son, the whole "social interaction" thing has taken a back seat for awhile ;)

I'm going to agree with strat. Acting like a douche can be successful, especially if you focus on appearing to not be a douche while actually being a douche. But it's only successful at getting you laid, and it isn't successful for very long: overfishing is a very big danger there. And you know what? I had a pretty good time at the time, but the negative consequences of that kind of worldview are pretty bad.

I would disagree that douches have "ruined it" for the rest of males, you just have to approach situations with confidence. Act like you're both on exactly the same level, because you are.

Alright, so I was on a college visit for a scholarship test, and I was pretty sure I was not going to end up going to this college, so I slept with a girl there that normally I would not have slept with, due to her being a little strange. Of course, I ended up going there anyway. And so did she. And it turned out, she lived in my dorm (but, thankfully, the other side and several floors away, so she didn't discover this for some time). She then went about convincing the people I knew, including my roommate, that she was dating me. It got really weird.

Yeah, let's not go comparing our mistakes on that front, or I'll be here all day ;)
