Teach a group of high school students to play Diplomacy, akin to SoW

I am a high school teacher, and we have a Diplomacy club. We are going to start an online game, and I was wondering if there are people interested in walking them through the game.

vdiplomacy.com: what is it?

I found a mysterious website called vdiplomacy.com. It claims to be webdiplomacy and has a similar format, but it's not exactly the same, and it has lots of variants available. Anyone know what this is all about?

"New Game" dosn't work.

When I go to games, I can't access the new games tab, forcing me to make my own game everytime I want to play. Is there a fix? It says "New game~28" And then it says no new games avaidable.

Alabama or Oklahoma St.?

Which one deserves to get the second spot in the nat'l championship? Both are 1-1, oklahoma state has a conference title and more wins against ranked opponents, but alabama plays in a tougher division and had only lost to the no. 1 team, LSU. What do you guys think?

New 'variant' suggestion

A gunboat variant where you could see who had joined but did not know who played each country. That would allow you to screen who you played with and could avoid obvious cheating red flags. Just a thought.

Face to Face game via webcam

I thought of a good idea, arrange a face to face game via Skype or gmail chat. It would be fun and ann another dimension to the game and make it close to a real face to face except yo arn't next to one another. Post about ideas thoughts or interest.

Let's use this scenario. Austria has an army in Con and fleet in Aeg. Turkey has armies in Smy and Ank. Turkey supports Smy to Con using Ank. Austria counters by convoying Con to Smy. I know this is a legal move and it works in sidestepping the support.

But marx tried to enter via convoy in his move to Greece from Bul and it went through, when it was expected to fail. So in my scenario, lets say that Con moves via convoy to Smy but the fleet in Aeg does not actually convoy the unit. Now i know it might be obvious that it should fail, i just was curious about the issue and what happens.

URL to the game and the year/phase when it happened?

Basically he's trying the 'swap two units with a convoy' but the fleet doesn't actually convoy the unit (just holds, for example)?

Con gets dislodged and must retreat or disband because it had no support into Smy.

The swap would only take place if the convoy was successful. Otherwise, it is just a normal move and subject to all the rules thereof.

@FK - MM had a move happen even though the convoy failed because it was still a valid move and nothing there ot block it. It was within the rules of the DATC which says that should happen. In this case, though, the moving unit is opposed.

Someone, can't remember if it was MM or not, had a game where in the last phase they moved Pie-Ven via convoy but GoL didn't participate in the convoy. Pie moved to Ven because the via convoy only indicates that a convoy would be allowed, not that moving by land is not allowed. This was just within the last week or so.
