Someone has to post it the real economic history of the Reagan presidency or you will be reading the lunacy of Putin, Tantris, and the like.

So if you want to be an uneducated boob then don't read the history I post here with links. Just read the rantings of fools who don't know economics from tiddliwinks.

Is it just me???
Can anyone explain how I could possibly be in two different 1901 games and end up being the exact same country in both AND in two different world games and be two countries that are right next to each other (out of 17 possibilities, I think it's an electronic conspiracy against me). Is this something that happens frequently? Is it due to my name that I'm always going to be the same country or something? Just a thought... any input would be great.

@Avenger You are assuming that greed does not play a capitalist society either? Well, it does and Americans are among the greediest in the world. Government regulation to a limited degree must exist to maintain that the greed of the competitors does not forget about the good of the nation. Any regulation beyond that point is, I agree, stifling but free market with no regulation whatsoever is also inviting the rich few to get richer at the expense of the populous.

First Apple, I'll explain it simply so a stymied third grade mentality like your might have a chance to begin to comprehend how economics works.

Communist economics has no pricing mechanism. Do you understand that?
Without a pricing mechanism your economy collapses.
Why do you think the Chinese peg their currency to the dollar.
So they can get some idea of real price levels.
How do people so utterly ignorant of economics get the idea that they understand economics at all?

The problem with limited protection to protect the consumer is that generally, when the need for protection comes to light, the things business is doing are so egregious that people support going very hard against them. Things like The Jungle were fictional exaggerations, but found to be so close to reality that it made serious changes necessary. Silent Spring actually didn't advocate the banning of DDT, but it did reveal a lot of industry fact-hiding that made lawmakers wonder what else they were hiding. Unsafe At Any Speed is my favorite example. Nader's argument about the Corvair's unsafeness is based on a number of sources, many of them fraudulent such as a video made by Ford where the driver is intentionally trying to get the Corvair to wreck (and still having issues with it). But instead of presenting facts, GM tried to assassinate Nader's character, hiring prostitutes to try to sleep with him and such. When this was revealed, Nader won so much in the ensuing legal activities that he founded an extreme consumer advocacy group. Paid for by corporations trying to substitute character assassination for argument.

Historically, the way businesses have engaged in activities that were unsafe for consumers were so offensive that an extreme backlash was pretty much the only possible reaction to making it public.

A definition of capitalism for mindless infants.

Capitalism is a system of voluntary exchange.
No purchase is forced and no sale is obligated without the voluntary mutual agreement of the parties involved.
The price of a good or service in capitalism is determined in each individual transaction by the two parties involved.

It's so simple.
Obamacare is not capitalism in any way shape or form because it forces a purchase.
Medicare and Medicaid are not capitalism in any way shape or form because the price of a service or good is arbitrarily determined by government and forced upon a provider.

No wonder our medical costs have gone bananas. Lyndon Baines Johnson and the liberal Democrats destroyed the medical market in the 1960's and costs have been increasing ever sense.

God, it is such a shame how many fools don't understand the simple truth about capitalism.

If any of you had seen the rest of the world for the good and bad that it holds, you would see the oppression that capitalism brings about on the population of a nation just as bad as communism does if not worse. I am not advocating either side to be better than the other, the are both extremely imperfect systems but the path to prosperity lies in using the good from one side where it is in the best benefit of the nation and the good in the other where it too is the best benefit for the people.

I know Tettleton will come back with his typical insulting remarks as he has obviously proven himself incapable of having a debate in conversation without acting like a tantrum-throwing child but that does nothing more than show the ignorance that he possesses like so many of the brainwashed sheeple who live in this country and can't see past the rhetoric of lies that they've been told and taught since the day they were born. Get out and see the world... not the tourist spots but the lives of different people under different styles of government and laws. You'll see what I mean about capitalism oppressing the general populous! I've lived and worked in over a dozen nations around the world... I know what I'm talking about.

"Capitalism oppressing the general populace"
Typical mindless rants from an infantile marxist mind.
I just met with the accountant to talk some real capitalism.

We discussed how to protect my lifetime of work from helpless, unimaginative, umambitious, unmotivated, helpless marxists morons.

There is nothing quite as refreshing as getting compliments from your accountant.
You don't own too much house.
You don't spend too much on cars.
You've insured everything that needs to be insured- Life, health, home, disability, long-term care.
You've lived within your means and saved.
You've invested in soundly without taking undo risk.

I wonder who I'm oppressing. Maybe I'm oppressing an economic illiterate like first apple who doesn't understand the first thing about how a business, an economy, or the whole wide world around him works.

One thing my accountant cautioned against was taking on any more employees at the moment because social security and medicare tax liabilities have never been higher and are sure to go up.

Duh!

So keep ranting your mindless "see the oppression of capitalism" First Apple and ignore the horrendous, murderous, genocidal record of the Soviet Union, Mao, and all the other marxist regimes that have visited misery on the world in your fantasy land of idiocy.

FirstApple (100 D(B))
18 Aug 11 UTC
Again with the insults TC? At least attempt to show some class here, seriously.

Where have I advocated for a marxist society anywhere in my statements? Absolutely nowhere. Then again, what about the horrendous and murderous records of capitalist countries (ie Colombia as an example) where the rich allow and even force the poor into situations where they must kill amongst themselves because the rich steal everything from them. Even competitive companies in these areas hire hitmen to cause disaster to their opponents so they can get ahead.

In a PURELY capitalistic system, the rich care nothing for anyone else in the society except to get ahead themselves and if that means sending jobs overseas where they can get the work done cheaper, so be it. If that means lowering the quality of the product so that more can be made quicker and cheaper, so be it. It does not matter to them whether the product is truly of quality for the people. All they care about is making an additional buck off that same crappy product.

Again, I have never stated in my discussions that I advocate a fully 'marxist' society at all! I have said from the very first discussion that NEITHER SIDE can work completely on its own as they will both destroy the people and the country whereas the path to prosperity lies in using what is good from both sides in a median approach.

He hasn't muted me, should I be insulted or proud?

"Deductibles are what tax attorneys and accountants live for.
47% of Americans already don't pay any income tax whatsoever.
How do you give 47% of the people a tax cut on taxes they don't pay?"
Thats my problem with some of the republicans, they now convinced that forcing those 47% of people to pay taxes would classify as a tax raise...

"For example, the communist nations have fallen due to the lack of economic growth that is spurred by competition because they were 'too' far to the left."
No, they didn't fall because of lack of economic growth. They lacked economic growth because of the lack of competition, BUT they fell because their centralized government couldn't fully understand the economic and political situations of the common Russian and made grave mistakes that, at the time, nobody saw was a bad idea.

"At the same time, our own nation is falling apart at the seams because capitalism is, at its base, a system designed to make a few wealthy people even richer at the sweat, toil and expense of the majority."
No capitalism, at its base, is the idea that you make the markets increasingly competitive to drive down the prices and boost progress to making better products.

It fell because in the end, capitalism is just a game, and all games have to end. Once the game is over, and someone wins the system falls. However I would argue that a lot of the problems with our current governments regulation systems ended the game faster.

The economic crisis we are in right now, I would argue, actually proves the need for a more right wing stance on things.

The current economic crisis we are in is not because of what happened in 2008, it was because governments were spending to much.

Back in the Early 90s (When Bush SR was overspending and Japan became bankrupt) The Economist warned that if governments continued to spend more then they earned they would eventually be bankrupt and that could damage the confidence of the consumer, and eventually lead to a massive recession.

In this sense Clinton, the Democratic President of America in the late 90s did a bloody good job at preventing the problem. The both ran surpluses in almost every budget they passed. However Bush JR was the first president since FDR to raise spending without raising government revenue. And in FDRs defense he had a world war and an economic depression to deal with. Bush had the best economic situation the US had seen since Eisenhower. You can't be considered a conservative if your not conservative with spending. For that reason I hate the Bushes and Reagan. (however its not just the Republicans that are the problem.

For this reason you are partially right when you said the reason our economy failed is similar to
the communists:

It was the governments not being able to predict everything that cause the communists to fall.
It was the governments become to big and failing to balance budgets that caused our system to fall.

Clearly on both sides it was the government that cause the problem. So why would one argue that increases the governments interference in the economy would prevent that?

This is the bullshit the left wing politicians are advertising. That it was the Big Businesses fault that we are in the situation so if you give me more power I will prevent this from happening.

Most idiots assume that statement is true because their President is the one saying it, and so listen. However they forget 2 important facts about politicians:
1. They became politicians because they want power
2. They lie all the time
If you remember those 2 important facts the motif of the statement above becomes clear. Giving them more power is what they want, and lying is the only way to do, so they do.

In the US 42% of the GDP is government spending. That was a statistic I read back in 2010. If anyone can call that capitalist, your a fucking retard.

Less government regulations and spending will save the economy.

"When our nation and its people finally realize that neither system truly works BUT a healthy combination of both is required, we will one day again flourish. Until then, our current path to self-destruction is the only route available to us."
The famous compromise line from liberals. We need a balance between Left and Right. Don't give me that bullshit. A good compromise leaves both sides unhappy. You can't efficiently incorporate both.

The economy of Germany in the 1930s actually provides a good example that proves that.

"Funny, countries like Sweden consume a lot of energy but 50% of it is renewable, much of it is solar. European countries and China have are on the cutting edge and America is behind as usual."
Don't give me that bullshit Putin. 85% of the China's energy comes from Coal...

"Socialist ideas applied to a capitalist and free-market system merely hold the system back. Socialist priniciples only work in a perfect society without greedy people. A Capitalist system is based on the "invisible hand" of competition. Competition lowers prices and allows for the creation of more jobs. Government regulation merely stifles competition. It is not the responsibility of the government to intervene on our behalf if something goes wrong."
+1 Avenger

"First Apple, communist governments fell because of their violent oppression of freedom. "
No it fell because they governments were to centralized.

"The Soviet Union built the Berlin Wall to keep people in for God's sake.
Your argument that capitalism is nearly as oppressive as communism is infantile, intellectual indefensible, and patently absurd."

Enforced Advertising Standards and anti-monopoly prevention. Free Health Care and Education.

That's all they need.

And thats right I support Public Health Care, however only to a certain extent.
I DO NOT SUPPORT OBAMA CARE, the system I support is two tier. The poor get basic health care and the rich can pay for better health care. However health insurance is the most retarded idea ever.

"@ Avenger: NEVER AGREE WITH TETTLETON, HE IS DEVIL SPAWN!"
lol

"you would see the oppression that capitalism brings about on the population of a nation just as bad as communism does if not worse"
This couldn't be further from the truth.

Exhibit A:
West Germany vs East Germany.
West Germany was the worlds leading exported in the 70s and 80s. They had the highest GDP per capita in the then G6, and saw a massive growth that turned the lower class into a middle class.
Meanwhile life for the average citizen in East Germany in the 1980s was lower then that of life under Nazi Germany (according to me economics textbook)

Exhibit B:
Lithuania
In 2004, After slashing spending on social programs and installing a fixed tax rate, the average salary for the lower class doubled. Within 4 years nobody was being paid minimum wage .

Exhibit C:
Singapore
6th best Health Care system in the world (ranked by WHO) and 2nd best education system in the world (ranked by PISA), a standard of living on par with Great Britain. All for an income tax rate of just 7.5% for those who earn 80,000 a year or less and a government who spends, per capita, 1/3 of the US. The people are satisfied with its government to the extent that one party has won every election for the past 40 years.

Exhibit D:
China
Communist China saw a Cultural revolution and Tienanmen Square. Modern Day (more capitalist China) has seen the best education system in the world (for those living in the cities) a GDP that is 6 times as high as it was in the last 10 years.

Exhibit E:
Russia vs USSR
If you think my description of East Germany was bad, consider this:
Soviet soldiers stations in East Germany during the 80s were not allowed to leave the barracks they were stationed in while stay in Germany. The reason was the officers were scared that seeing how much better life was in East Germany then in USSR some soldiers would desert.

Modern Russia is one of 3 states that can economically compete with China. No communist nation could compete with the US.

Capitalism has brought inventions like cars, TVs, Radios, Ipods, Black Berries, etc to life. Something that cannot be consider oppressive.

That's really not that bad. Consider that Hitler won power by raising up the masses and making them satisfied that life was improving. The Volkswagen, for instance, designed to be a car that everyone could own. An unfavorable comparison to the average citizen in Nazi Germany is not that bad. Fasces, As I've said before, why would I mute you? You have intelligent, well-reasoned points to make.

Some total idiot that posts "the capitalists oppress the poor" is not worth wasting time on. You are definitely not in that crowd.

As far your posting my statement about 47% of the people not paying taxes and then posting "Thats my problem with some of the republicans, they now convinced that forcing those 47% of people to pay taxes would classify as a tax raise...

You need to know you are not talking about me. I'm a registered independent for one thing, and I favor a national sales tax that would hit everyone. I also don't have any problem with imposing a 1% income tax on the lowest tax brackets above the poverty line. How can anyone have self-respect if they don't pay taxes.
You can tell from the posts on these boards who doesn't have any self-respect because they don't pay taxes. It's glaringly evident.

Author Author on your take about communist economies.

Capitalism is not a game. It is simply a description of the oldest tradition in human society, commerce.
Capitalism is a voluntary exchange between two individuals where the price of the good or service exchanged is determined by the two individuals without outside interference.
It will never come to an end, ever.

I muted Putin long ago as a stupid marxist liar who fabricates endlessly, and I see he is still at with his typical vague statement "much of it is solar." What a crock of Putin shit.

There is a pie graph on this page that shows 50% of Sweden's power is Hyrdro from dams, 35% is nuclear, thermal is 13% and wind is 2%.

The marxist liar Putin saying that Sweden gets much of it's energy from solar is total BS as usual.

+++++1,0000 for posting "over a 1000 people died each year trying to get from East Germany (communist control) to West Germany (capitalist control)"

Yo TC the idea of a tax loophole is pretty straighforward you don't have to be a genius to know what one is in general.

It's something in the tax code that allows a person or company to avoid paying a tax they otherwise would have had to have paid that was not intended by the writers of the law.

Which would you rather, the colour tvs of 1980 playing hundreds of shows, or the entire propoganda black and white based TV of Nazi Germany?
Life in Nazi Germany was sure good for its time, but all the inventions of the following 50 years were not introduced into East Germany until the fall of the wall.

"It's something in the tax code that allows a person or company to avoid paying a tax they otherwise would have had to have paid that was not intended by the writers of the law."
However in this case, the successors to the writers of the law think it was intended.

"Where have I advocated for a marxist society anywhere in my statements? Absolutely nowhere. Then again, what about the horrendous and murderous records of capitalist countries (ie Colombia as an example) where the rich allow and even force the poor into situations where they must kill amongst themselves because the rich steal everything from them. Even competitive companies in these areas hire hitmen to cause disaster to their opponents so they can get ahead"
Your forgetting one thing:
COLOMBIA IS IN A FUCKING CIVIL WAR! ALL THE RICH FLED THE COUNTRY IN 1964!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can't say the rich is oppressing the poor in a country like Colombia because there is no rich.

"In a PURELY capitalistic system, the rich care nothing for anyone else in the society except to get ahead themselves and if that means sending jobs overseas where they can get the work done cheaper, so be it. If that means lowering the quality of the product so that more can be made quicker and cheaper, so be it. It does not matter to them whether the product is truly of quality for the people. All they care about is making an additional buck off that same crappy product."
Exhibit A:
Currently in Times Square and other places in New York, wifi is free, paid for by A&W and not subsidized by the government at all. The reason is because of how many people were using data to in times square. A&W had made the data plans so cheap they were loosing money on them. So they were left with 2 choices:
1. raise the prices of data
2. get their members to use less data
They set up free wifi across the city of New York because #2 would give them more profit.

Exhibit B:
Computers, TVs, all the consumer inventions of the last 100 years. Were all the direct result of capitalism.

So your choices:
Option A: Your life today, however miserable it is from your oppressive boss.
Option B: A farmer back 120 years ago. You have no electricity, can't read, everything has to be done manually (no tractor) etc.
And that average farmer I present to you was actually present in the communist nations right before they fell. Meanwhile do I need to describe life for the farmer in America?
The only reason you are allowed to play diplomacy right now is because some genius drew up a map of Europe, created a war game about it, and started selling it in the 1950s. Had there been no capitalism, you wouldn't be allowed to play diplomacy. You also wouldn't have a computer to talk to your friends online.

And believe it or not, if the American government suddenly got rid of minimum wage laws you could still afford a computer.

Exhibit C:
PreObama Health Insurance in the US.
lots of corporations were already provide free access to health care to its employees. Why? Because a healthy employee is a working employee.
The rich need a healthy middle class to maximize their revenue. That's hardly oppressive....

Exhibit D:
A black kid at my school. He lives at Jane and Finch and is one of the most conservative kids at my school. Why? Because his parents live at Jane and Finch. He sees them sit around at home all day cashing the very small government employment insurance cheques at sees them bitch about why the government isn't giving them more help. He is convinced that if the cheques stopped comming they would actually go look for a job.

Exhibit E:
Lithuania:
In 2004, Lithuania joined the EU. Being one of the poorest nations in Europe the lower class took on the advantage to flee to Germany and France. In the first year 360,000 more people emigrated then immigrated to Lithuania. Within 4 years the average wage in the lower class doubled and now minimum wage for jobs is higher then the government enforced minimum wage.

That is capitalism for you. As long as there is freedom of choice, it will eventually balance its self out to make it the most fair, but it takes time. Change doesn't happen over night. In Lithuania's case it took 4 years.

"What a total fabrication by Putin to say Sweden gets much of its renewable energy from solar.
I guess Marxists have to lie constantly to hide the horrendous failures of their beliefs."
And here I was the loser for believing him. +1 TC.
