Bad jokes from my kids' Popsicle sticks
The forums have been kind of heavy and grumpy lately. Here are a few terrible jokes, literally from Popsicle (think ice lolly, UKers), sticks. Feel free to add your own groaners.

The History of the Reagan Economic Policy
Someone has to post it the real economic history of the Reagan presidency or you will be reading the lunacy of Putin, Tantris, and the like.

So if you want to be an uneducated boob then don't read the history I post here with links. Just read the rantings of fools who don't know economics from tiddliwinks.

Is it just me???
Can anyone explain how I could possibly be in two different 1901 games and end up being the exact same country in both AND in two different world games and be two countries that are right next to each other (out of 17 possibilities, I think it's an electronic conspiracy against me). Is this something that happens frequently? Is it due to my name that I'm always going to be the same country or something? Just a thought... any input would be great.

Limbaugh Goes Racist Again...This Time, In Cookie-Form!
http://news.yahoo.com/rush-limbaugh-goes-full-tilt-racial-slur-bam-230200099.html
I don't know what's worse--the slur, the name--"Or-Bam-Eo" is pretty weak--and the fact a man who has a stomach that looks like it's packed away the entire Oreo cookie factory has the audacity to make such a comment, and keep on slurring...why does this man still have job? Oh...right...folks like Tettleton...

Top 10 Best (Insert Sports Postion Here)
Top 10 lists and sports seem to go hand in hand, and another thread inspired me to do a Top 10 Best QBs ever...

But to leave this open for European friends--or for those who are NOT ready for some football--I'll leave it open: Top 10 Best...whatever sporting position you like, QBs, pitchers, cricket batsmen, midfielders, hockey fowards...etc.

Other turn-based multi-player strategy games online
I'm curious about what other turn-based strategy games you guys play online. I've been looking to get into other games as well, though of course Dip is my favorite. Still, any ideas of other ones that are out there?

Kind of like Schindler's List, but not...

If you are put on this list, that simply means that you are too inferior to be my underling, meaning that you must be considered near a slave. Most people on this list are not actually on my kill-list.

Also, I can finally tell fleets apart from armies.

manganese (100 D)

Don't think so. I have it on my own server.
Ah. It's very well done. I'd love to see it here.
manganese (100 D)

Annoyingly, the order form uses separate graphics that aren't in the vairants folder, and not dependent on variant.
manganese (100 D)
18 Aug 11 UTC
Here's another fun one:
http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/390/ancn.png
Ooh, that's pretty neat. I like the army being represented by a guy with a sword and shield. I can't make out the fleet details but it looks to be in a similar vein as the army.

A very similar map was suggest a couple of years ago (possibly by Kestas himself), but no change was ever made. Kestas originally chose the colours based on the British version of the game which his father owned (the British version is pretty ugly). The traditional colour for England and its colonies on maps is Pink - which might be a reason that we have kept it that way on our present version.
I don't mind which coloring we use, but a change in unit icons would nice. Not sure about the stars for armies though. The anchors are all right.
manganese (100 D)
18 Aug 11 UTC
I based in the Dip board I have, the old AH one with plastic units, anchors and stars.
manganese (100 D)
18 Aug 11 UTC
And the colors are from that board too, sort of.

Sleepcap (100 D)

You can change the icons in the orderinterface from a variant too. Many of the variants on my server do this. You can check out the code for new icons in the SailHo variant for example: http://www.vdiplomacy.com/download.php?download=16
kestasjk (99 DMod(P))

Nice stuff manganese (and good tip sleepcap), check out the developer forum if you haven't already (see the help page)

@spyman; that's true, though having a white russia would make country text coloring trickier. Personally I prefer the British version, but I guess it's just taste. When IE9+ is widespread and we move to SVG people will be able to customize icons/colors anyway
manganese (100 D)
18 Aug 11 UTC
Sleepcap, I couldn't find it for ancient, it seemed the code picked icons from the /images instead of /resources in the variant.
manganese (100 D)
18 Aug 11 UTC
For text color I just put black text on country color background.
Sleepcap (100 D)
18 Aug 11 UTC
@managese: You can check how Sail-Ho does this and adjust the code to your own icons... The code is not that hard to understand.

Cool. Will do.

Any of you guys play on Dipbounced? Good interface and the maps are really clear, just not that many players on there now. It colours the units rather than the land.

Personally I like the way the map changes color as territories are gained.

PJ, Spyman, Acmac. Dipbounced has several map modes, this is the one I prefer:
http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/9471/dipbounced.gif
And I also prefer that DB has one map for each phase, instead of a flurry of arows from the previous turn.
manganese (100 D)
18 Aug 11 UTC
I don't agree that the interface is good though. But the maps are excellent.
spyman (424 D(G))

I like the icons.
manganese (100 D)
18 Aug 11 UTC
Yeah, icons with color is definitely preferrable.
pjmansfield99 (100 D)

Hey manganese? Are you the same name on DB? I also like having the map per phase.

Looks great, manganese! I especially like your color scheme.

Is your personal server public?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
18 Aug 11 UTC
The colors are beautiful, but the pieces are too small.

What about going fully retro, where [] was an army and [---------] was a fleet. Easy to see and you wouldn't need a color border around them when off their land.
manganese (100 D)
18 Aug 11 UTC
Yeah, they're to small for the big map. Works fine on the small one.
figlesquidge (2131 D)

3 years on from its first drafts, there still isn't an SVG map. If only someone would write one / finish the one I started we could offer all this sort of stuff as a user setting.
manganese (100 D)

Figle. Give me a link and I'll take a look at it.
spyman (424 D(G))

What is an SVG map?
manganese (100 D)
19 Aug 11 UTC
SVG is a vector-based graphical format.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
19 Aug 11 UTC
I think the easiest option is for you to email me, then I'll send you the code/data and a few thoughts. That said, unfortunately quite a lot of it will need to be corrected, since the AJAX system put in place on the site uses a different format from the one that was under discussion when it was written.
