Can anyone defend Austria when being attacked by Italy, Russia and Turkey?
Can anyone defend the idea that a "power" can produce a better situation for Austria by diminishing the attackers' SC control in exchange for increased unexpected imposition of diplomatic pressure on the attackers?

Something that has always confused me is why people say taxing the wealthy is fair. How can one justify governments taking quadruple the money on those who earn twice as much as the middle class? How is it fair?

Quite possibly the WORST PROFESS IONAL ESSAY I HAVE EVER READ. Stylistically lackluster at best and completely banal at worst, with an emhpasis on terms poorly defined and adjectives poorly used, it's message is confused and WRONG--WHEN has Hitchens had "twisted yearning for the apocalypse and belief in the “chosen people?" Drunken Diplomacy
I'd like to set up a live game for alcoholics at some point in the future. Every time you gain or lose a SC, you take a shot. Every time the year changes, you take a shot. Every time a nation is eliminated, you chug. The idea is that as the war goes on, you become more and more "drunk" with power... only for real.
For the sake of not killing the participants I would suggest that the SC and yearly shots normally consist of some type of pre-agreed upon beer, while the national-elimination shots should be vodka or some type of grain alcohol.

Any takers? Suggestions are welcome.
Gobbledydook (1389 D(B))
23 Jul 11 UTC
Shouldn't it only be the winner of SC who gets to drink?
That way the loser can remain less drunk and try to fight back...
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
23 Jul 11 UTC
I've actually suggested this to some of my irl friends. Unfortunately, my drinking friends and my diplomacy friends don't overlap much. Although, this could be an excellent (or terrible) way to bring them together.

This idea seems amazing, but not sure it would be much fun online.

Shots of beer? That ain't shit.

I'm in though, but I doubt I will be able to do it unless we get it organized in the next week.

And I think it would be hilarious online or off.

That sounds like the most amazing game ever...

I'd totally join--except I can never drink. But hey--set up an Internet viewer and I'll gladly watch the drunken spectacle... :p
Shit, I hadn't even seen the replies until just now. I am quite serious about trying it, as I agree it would probably be amazingly hilarious. Public press over Skype DOES seem feasible... I guess we just need to iron out the details. What/when to drink, etc.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
26 Jul 11 UTC
We should do a G+ hangout so we can video call everyone at once.
That'd work too. So far we have:

Geofram (130 D(B))

The way I see it, its a public press game over voicechat. (I don't have a webcam.) And I usually drink at my desk. So the only difference is that everyone's drinking and we all know it. Not really that odd.

@thucy : Shots of beer are shit? then clearly yo uare not part of the beer century club: A shot of beer every minute for 100 minutes. Give a shot...then get back to me.

can't stand the taste of beer, however I would be happy to do Rum or Vodka...
Fasces349 (0 DX)

My suggestion would be this:
At the end of every year you have to take a shot for every 3 sc you control. So the people winning have to drink more then the people loosing.

Also I am a veteran of shot chess. lol.

@Fasces - try cider. It has about the same alcohol content as beer but tatses a hell of a lot better.

I'll probably sit out this one after reading further in the thread. My microphone is broken and don't want to get it replaced.
krellin (80 DX)
26 Jul 11 UTC
cider has the same alcoholic content as beer? Clearly Draugnar is already drunk. I don't think I feed my children alcohol every fall when we buy cider and donuts. Perhaps you meant mulled cider?
FatherSnitch (476 D(B))
26 Jul 11 UTC
@krellin: "Cider" is used in most of the world to mean fermented (alcoholic) apple juice. It's only in North America that it means unfiltered apple juice. Although I'm still confused as to why Draug is using non-American terminology!
Draugnar (0 DX)

Draugnar (0 DX)

There's a reason I have krellin muted... I recently unmutted Tettleton and Putin, but will probably put them back on mute what a couple threads I'm reading and posting to are done.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
26 Jul 11 UTC
I thought about muting a number of people, but

1) I'm a mod and I feel it would be inappropriate
2) While many people seem to get angry at certain posters, I just find them incredibly amusing.
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Jul 11 UTC
I just find certain ones annoying and, not being a mod, I feel free to ignore them.
krellin (80 DX)
26 Jul 11 UTC
Draugnar is a pussy with thin skin. hell, I find a vast majority of posters annoying (Draugnar...) and yet I let them exist. that is kind of what forums are about, isn't it? Hell,I even find people I agree with (Tettleton) annoying as hell...but muting is for pussies.

Oh....yeah....Draugnar. that's right.

If *anyone* takes any anonymous posts seriosuly (*and I **am** anonymous to you all....you have no idea who I am in real life...*) then they need to grow up a little bit. No....a lot, actually. I don't think that even 10% of what is said on these threads by **anyone** is serious because most of it is absurd extremism. This includes....hmmm...ME, draugnar, Putin, Jack_Klien, Tettleton, etc etc etc. A bunch of annoying fucks we all are who express extremist positions...and yet I gurantee we all live our real lives as moderates (because none of the environmentalists will turn off their carbon-producing computers, and none give to charity or volunteer or pay extra taxes just because they have the money...) So the threads are completely stuffed full of ridiculous hyper-partisan assholery....hence i don't hte anyone here, and certainly am not going to allow myself to get annoyed enough to mute someone. If you do, you take these threads....and your own DIM intellect....far too seriously....
Ah yes, the beauty of the semi-anonymity of the internet is that it enables people to be absurd assholes to each other in ways that they would not even dream of doing in the in-person world.

Anyway, SHUT THE FUCK UP AND STOP HIJACKING THIS THREAD, ASSHOLE.
krellin (80 DX)
26 Jul 11 UTC
Wahhh.....Cry louder. Apparently you are stupid fucking stupid to grasp the concept that ALL of these threads are full of psuedo-intellectual, know-it-all assholes (much as you were just now) who think that others should shut up because you think YOUR brain vomit is more important than mine. Bahhh.....fuck you. Fuck all of you "intellectuals". A good number of us were arrogant college pricks once who thought we knew it all, too. Then we got jobs and started paying taxes and started to notice that we didn't know as much as we thought we did, and then we noticed that a bunch of college fucks out there (like we used to be) think they know it all, and they have no respect for wisdom and experience because they pretend that **their** peculiar brand of Utopian ideal will work where none other have...

sigh...So I mock you. And I mock the fool like Jack_Klien who seem to be in the working world, but still fail to grasp the reality of the common man, living in his over-paid protected life while failing to give back to those he wants everyone else to give up to support....

Sigh....

So fuck off. You see, the joy of these forums is I can say what I want....be a pussy and mute me if you need be...it will only prove two things: 1. You have no valid counter arguments and 2. You have the thin-skin of a child.
krellin (80 DX)
26 Jul 11 UTC
By the way -- degine "hi-jakcing"???? Oh.....by hi-jakcing you mean I said something you disagree with? Or you mean that I actually posted more than a one or two sentence post....as it seems most people on here are incapable of thoughts beyond one or two sentences. I know....it *really* stretches your feeble mind to have to read something before you post your inane reply. But it's good practice for you, dear boy.
Seriously?
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Jul 11 UTC
Me?
...Actually, it was intended as joke. First I laughed about the semi-anonymity of the internet encouraging people to say rude things to each other. Then I said something rude to you. Get it? Or is your response just three dimensional chess, making a joke of my joke? Somehow I don't think you're that smart.

Anyway, drunk diplomacy.
yebellz (729 D(G))
26 Jul 11 UTC
@Draug: no, all of the posts since your previous post was just in response to some idiotic stuff that krellin posted.

I guess an unfortunate consequence of muting is that you might lose some of the context.

krellin (80 DX)
