Live game, I know I shouldn't comment but when Russia and Turkey CD in 1901, draw or cancel. This is bull shit.

Live Game Draw Etiquette?
I didn't know whether I should remain the lone holdout against a draw, then I did vote draw when another player was about to be eliminated.

So I played my first live game today. Some players voted for draw immediately, which was odd. As the game went on, only Germany and I (England) were not voting for draw. Eventually, I noticed that Germany had voted for Draw, so I was the sole hold-out. It seemed as though players were letting retreats time out, so I wondered whether I was committing a faux pas by not consenting to a draw.

So I did finally vote draw, but that inadvertently gave a player who would have been eliminated at the end of the phase a 1/5 share of the pot! I apologize to the other players for costing you a few points.

What's the etiquette here? I know that I can always choose not to draw, but what considerations do more experienced players use to draw?

It was also getting close to 11 PM EDT, so I also didn't want to be the guy keeping everyone up late.
I was Germany in this game. It's important to note the context of a French CD from 1901. this is why people voted draw and also why some (I included) voted cancel.

In my opinion a game shouldn't be drawn because of Civil Disorders. It should be cancelled. This is why i didn't vote draw - because it skews stats and ratings.

I eventually did vote draw when you stabbed me right when Italy was going to get into your homeland. I figured I had no chance to win since he would and I would rather have a draw (real outcome) than a loss.

I didn't have much choice about stabbing you, unfortunately. I was trying to stay viable until Turkey forced Italy to leave me alone. I understand that drawing is a preferable alternative to losing, but my question is more about whether the community expects, in the absence of a likely winner, a draw to be offered after some period of time.

Do cancels need to be unanimous?
Nobody expects a draw after some period of time. We join games expecting to play them to conclusion. Cancels do need to unanimous, yes.

I also don't blame you for stabbing but think you did have other options

@grep - all votes (cancel, draw, and pause/unpause) must be unanimous, but a mod can override and force them if they feel it is appropriate.

I'm with Lando on that. Cancel if a player CDs in 01. Draw to avoid a loss. Play to win which means if other players won't cancel, then go for the win until they come around. If it's 1905 or later and then they come around, screw 'em and go for the solo or eliminate someone so the spoils are greater for those who did vote cancel early on. That's my opinion.
Yeah I'm the same. 1905 cancel comes off because someone was being a dick and they don't deserve to decide the game.

When i refer to a loss I mean anything other than a win/draw regardless of point division (pc/wta)

I would like to see the programming changed to force an automatic cancel in the event of a 1901 NMR (but with a resign recorded on the record of the player who NMR'd). Something like that.

^^ I'd like to see a few more pregame options, in particular w.r.t. treatment on NMRs
As a long term aims (among others I can't currently remember),
-> No NMR (would reset the phase, mark them as NMR and if done again would CD and pause
-> 1901 CD option: standard or reset(would put the game back into pre-game, kicking the CD-er)

figle, one concern I would have with an automatic cancel with 1901 NMRs is that some players might NMR if they draw Italy or Austria. There would need to be some sort of penalty.

Also grep5000, if you ever find yourself in a situation where you gain an upper hand over an opponent and he NMRs and then CDs, don't be sentimental and don't let yourself to be forced to draw/cancel by others. Chances are that he did so because he realized he was doomed and so he stopped caring about the game. Of course you won't find such attitude among more experienced players, because they know it's fun to fight to the (not everytime bitter) end.

You forced that guy to CD because you played better than he did so you have right to grab the spoils he left behind. Even if he had legitimate reason to CD like a network failure, you have a right to play on if you wish. After all, a neighbour in CD is not always good for you - you are either immediately marked as the big fish to be allied against or you might have just lost a nice buffer state.

It takes so long to get a live game going sometimes, that I'm always reluctant to cancel, whether I benefit from the CD or not. The game already has a degree of imbalance. Drawing Italy or Austria is no fun. A 1901 CD just throws a different element of imbalance into it. On the other hand, it means the countries going after the absent players SCs are distracted on their other borders. There are swings and roundabouts to all of this.
gramilaj (100 D)

Right, if the two bordering countries are on their game, they can easily take care of someone taking advantage of a CD in 01. I feel a little differently about gunboats, but in full press games I think it's fine to play on with 1 CD.

Its fine and dandy for a member to call another member a "hook-nosed kike" with impunity, but on the other hand, spam the same member you are liable to discipline. I guess its appropriate on this site to describe this site as a fucking disgrace.

Is this legal to talk *privately* with another player on this site about a game that goes on right now? I am not asking whether is it enforceable, but whether is it legal.

CHEATERS!!!
I was playing a live gunboat, but Turkey and Russia totally CHEATED!! It was so unfair! They were clearly multi-accounting, and the mods won't do anything! Anybody who breaks any of the ingame or forum rules should be immediately banned. I even spammed the shit out of every mod's inbox and they still haven't responded within the last 5 minutes!!!

Classical Classic
What if 7 players were to get together and play the game the way two would? These 7 players would have forced alliances: GAT, EFR, with Italy picking a side to join in Spring 1902 (that part may be up for discussion) The players on a team would be forced to work together, and the game would go on until one full team was elimanted, the winning team draws

I'm looking to start a couple of new games - WTA, anon, 24h, reasonable pot. I don't care that much about GR/points, but a reasonable record with no CDs especially would be a plus :)

England Tactics (Full Press)
Is it worth risking France getting the easy SCs in Spain and Portugal in order to get easy SCs off Russia, who seems to never expect an English attack?

Such a tactic wouldn't work in a gunboat due to France's occasional tendency to open to EC instead of MAO.
