lol. EXACTLY what has happened in WWI and will happen again in webDip.

"Italy would solo" - last time they tried that they couldn't even beat Greece, who doesn't even have an army. Somehow they needed Germany to support them...

intriguing point, but after Germany and Russia die in this fire, Turkey-Austria and France-England become the belligerents, no? with Italy becoming a deciding factor!

or infact, make the team score depend on keeping their allies alive! (and a two-team draw with more allies alive is better than a two-team draw with less allies alive...)

That said, I've played similar games before. Most frequently, they result in a central powers victory oddly enough, or at least a six way draw with Russia eliminated. Austria doesn't want to upset italy in the opening phase, so it and turkey by necessity open strong against russia. assuming germany helps, even with one army, and its pretty overwhelming force arrayed against russia in the south, with limited build opportunities since Russia will likely still be occuping its home centers. But you never know.

I'd try it.

england helps germany secure scandanavia, and they have a fleet in the baltic, northern russia holds out for a decent amount while france and england are focussed on germany (and get a higher score if germany is wiped out from any two-way draw - while we say they keep russia alive...)

in fact, i think a simple scoring system is best.

lets put it this way, if italy joins your alliance, it is a four person alliance.

and your score is then divide by the number of players who survive into the draw. (so if italy and russia are wiped out, but france and england draw, they get 2/4

the other team maybe loses germany and get 2/3. )

so then, instead of dividing the 'draw' points equally between each team, G-A-T gets more points.

the ratio for E-F-R-I : G-A-T being 2/4 : 2/3 (their respective team scores)

which converts to 6 : 8 (multiplying both sides by 12)

and then to 3/7 against 4/7 (dividing both sides by 14, because 14 equals 6+8)

Thus EFRI divide 3/7ths of the points equally between themselves, and GAT get 4/7ths of the points divided by their smaller them... also equally. (which means having itlay also means sharing any victory with italy...)

or course a solo means equal points shared by the entire team. (but it's a team solo, so the team only has to reach 18! which make it possible that this is a very short game!!)

I did this game once. It worked exactly as was described above. What do I recommend to improve that?

WW2 alliances with a few tweaks...

England/France/ Turkey V Germany/Russia/Austria with Italy sitting out the first few seasons. Essentially, it would assume Germany never attacked Russia, and Mussolini was slightly less incompetent than he was.

I always thought that the WWI alliance system favoured E/F/R. You have two powers capable of building on either side of the stalemate line.

wait, my version has precisely one winner, and it occurs in 1902 when italy chooses to king the alliance which is closest to 18..

does that mean austria/turkey try to kill italy asap to prevent a foreign victory? or does france puppet itlay asap?

it can be assumes the germany does not take bel, and sweden is bounced by russia, leaving holland and den (possible for england to bounce) meanwhile rum is austria/turkish, as is serbia and bul.

That leaves ger +2, turk + aus, plus 3 balkans. (with italy maybe bouncing greece) GAT is on 14 in 1901.

EFR meanwhile, hopefully takes norway, guarentees bel or bounces hol? keeps warsaw by holding ground there, does not secure rum, and has options for spain and portugal, but can't really afford the troops which france need to use on germany right away.

FER is on Eng + 1, Fra + 1, Rus + 0 = 12.

Ita is meanwhile on 4. Which is enough to swing it to 18 right away when he joins someone GAT.

but that's only 1901, and italy doesn't join until 1902...

i think we should try this out.
