Burton's Alice in Wonderland
I watched the film today.
Nice costumes and direction but the movie was deprived of the philosophical value of the original script.
Actually it wasn't even childish. It was just crap.
Is that the future of cinema? A lot of costumes but no script?

I haven't seen it yet, but I would guess that that is the future of cinema. Why do you think movies like Transformers get millions of dollars, but better movies with coherent plots and depth get overlooked in the box office. In America, at least, movies are targeted to teens, and teens unfortunately just want explosions and effects...
hellalt (113 D)
06 Mar 10 UTC
that's just too bad.
I love old school movies like the exorcist.
If you remember the monster doesn't come up till the last 10 minutes of the film.
Till then we just have character building.
Nowadays movies just give you a stereotypical set character right from the start that won't evolve during the film.
The last really good movie I remember is 25th hour and Fight Club...
It looks terrible on TV. Why make a children's story into a border-line scary film?
hellalt (113 D)
06 Mar 10 UTC
Cause it's not strictly a childrens' story.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
06 Mar 10 UTC
In support of Hell, its not a children's story. As with most British literature from that sort of author, whilst the overarching storyline is directed at children, there is a lot hidden behind it.
Last great film - well going back as far as that is clearly an exaggeration Hellalt, there have been lots of great films since then, but your point is clear.

Will Clash of the Titans be ruined also?

clash of titans? just the idea ruins the movie. trailer was unimpressive at all. the last good fighting move was perhaps gladiator
jimgov (219 D(B))

Clash of the Titans? Like the original was any good? It has to be better than that crap fest.

"good fighting move" (sic) - in terms of what idealist? sword & sandals?
Most likely.

No, figles, I really consider it the best fighting scene ever.
It's cruel and hilarious at the same time.
warsprite (152 D)

@Jimgov your spoiled. The original was made 50 years ago. For it's time it was not all that bad.
jimgov (219 D(B))
06 Mar 10 UTC
50 years? I was talking about the 1981 version with Harry Hamlin. Was there an earlier one? Because the 1981 version was horrible.
Barn3tt (41969 D)

Lol, I remember really liking the 1981 version as a kid.
jimgov (219 D(B))
06 Mar 10 UTC
I remember it being kind of cool too. But it has NOT aged well. And Harry Hamlin as the lead??? Just bad.

The only really spectacular movie that I have watched lately was Slumdog Millionaire. That was really a phenomenal film, with wonderful directing and scripting. I think that Bourne Identity wasn't that bad either (it was able to create a new, better, type of Bond movie) but all the same I think Slumdog takes the cake.

It's unjust to condemn all adolescents. Though most want those explosions, they just grow up into adults who want shallow films with only exciting visuals. It's the majority of the population in general, not only teenagers.

Sorry jimgove I must be thinking of another film made back in the 60's.
