Does winning matter?
I'm looking at a game and thinking that I'm likely to survive but not win. So I'm trying to understand what happens to losers. Does the winning player get any kind of bonus for victory, or do all survivors split the pot evenly?

If the only difference between winning and a 2-way draw is 1/34 of the pot, it seems to me that this creates significant strategy differences from traditional Diplomacy...in my experience, a victory is substantially more valued than a draw.

Well done Germany. Tough game as Austria - just when I thought I'd got turkey under control and could set up some kind of line against Germany, France stabbed me. Not sure why.

Thanks for the game guys.
I enjoyed it :)

Curious that the guy who created the game was the one that entered no moves...

@Parallelopiped
yes, that was not very well played by france... I think he was desperate trying to get units to fight me.

France: sorry for the stab... we hasd a very good start against England... I believe I stabbed you in the right moment :)

Thanks for the game, I overextended in the aouth, meh.

As for the stabbing - well, you did move to Pie before I ever stabbed you, then you did not hit Munich from Tyrolia, so I was just goping for some SCs to get some points back, because it was really lost for me at that point.
SEcki (1171 D)

It was very unfortunate that you and Turkey did jsut go back and forth while I was just collapsing.

As for the stab: I could have hit draw in the right moment, I guess. My fault for putting to many fleets down in the south, I miscalculated the amount.
Parallelopiped (691 D)

I moved to Piedmont to show you I could take Marseilles - then didn't. Why? Because I saw that Germany was the only likely winner and that only by acting together could we stop him. I had to fight Turkey (I honestly can't see a way out of that at gunboat and even at regular dip it'd be tricky) but still had a few units to help you out. By taking my centres and moving east and south rather than west and north you gave it to Germany rather.
To be fair I should have spotted this coming a couple of turns earlier but even so there's not much I can do when the other three powers are all after my centres.
Troodonte (3379 D)
19 Feb 10 UTC
I can say i was never (before the last year) after your centers. There was 1 or 2 years when I could have gone for warsaw and I didn't...then turkey took it.
It was kinda funny to see, at some point, 2 independent fights: on 1 side of the borad france vs germany and on the other Austria vs Turkey. As we are center powers I assumed a NAP/alliance between us even though we never supported each other; it ended when you started hitting munich, but that was too late to stop my solo... I was already going for you :P
Parallelopiped (691 D)
19 Feb 10 UTC
Yeah - I'd assumed an alliance of sorts between us and was moving after France but then counted centres and realised that taking France down was never in my interests. It was just at the end that you were after me as well as Turkey and France.

I didn't get the message of moving to Pie and back as a "let's work toegther" because that move came at a very bad time for me. I took Italian SCs with the fleets, which imo is fine. I agree now, that I should not have taken Ven. However, I already saw the game lost at that point and tried to snack as many SCs as I could. I was a bit torn on how we could ally and met not lose all my SCs. I was waiting for armies to help against Germany for a couple of years by then. ;) But making you smaller did not help against Germany, jsut helped to not make me smaller.

I tried to go north and west, after taking the Italian SCs, I should have moved the fleets back to protect Por/Spain. I was just also quite afraid of Turkey moving just in.

After seeing the game again, I agree that I did not play that too well and made a couple of errors. Sorry for that. I enjoyed that game, especially since I learned something. I try to play better next time.

Needles into Heavan
It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter the gates of Heavan.
This seems quite clear to me, yet the Catholic Church is said to be the richest organisation on Earth and there are millionaire Evangalists on TV. Hipocracy or is it a very big needle you have to pass through to get in?
