DID I MISS SOMETHING
I've been playing this game for over twenty years and am new this site since oct last year.Have played on bouced site for last 5 years. But did I miss something along the way or is it lingo used only on this site.
But when Italy asks France to NAP what is he asking.
not surprised you didn't know that. its a non-aggression pact!
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

I think he's asking you to lower your defenses...

thank you.I've only seen Italy using this term other countries always come out and ask for what they want.

Also common is DMZ, which stands for de-militarized zone. It just means its a deal where neither of you will enter a certain territory.

Eg. France and England agree to DMZ the English Channel.

Some people like these. Figle and I when playing against one another tend to prefer the more straightforward APs and MZs, though.

Speak for yourself - I prefer NAPs its just no-one ever trusts me :'(

Saying NAP and actually sticking to a NAP are two different things, figle.

I trust you to keep your NAP when you are France and I'm Turkey, figle...

I try to DMZ Switzerland whenever I play as Turkey

Haha, fair point Jim. Can't remember ever breaking one though (although as Ghost pointed out earlier I can't remember the last real game I finished!)

I can remember threatening to move to Switzerland when playing as Italy in a FtF game. It was a noob as Germany who didn't realise that it was an impossible move. :D
Alderian (2425 D(S))

Saying DMZ and actually sticking to a DMZ are two different things too. Just means that neither will move there until we are willing to declare war on the other. NAP seems all wishy washy. Sort of like an ally but not an ally? For France/Italy, I'd rather just ask for a DMZ in Piedmont/GoL/WesternMed/North Africa/Livonia.
" It was a noob as Germany who didn't realise that it was an impossible move. :D "

Lol, did you even have to cover up the word "impassable" on the territory?
kreilly89 (100 D)

@Alderian you want Italy to not go to Livonia, why? Is there a special SC in Liv?
jman777 (407 D)
18 Feb 10 UTC
He's asking if you will take a nap with him, in bed.
Alderian (2425 D(S))
18 Feb 10 UTC
Well, first he'll think I'm joking, but then late in the game nearing the 2 way draw when he moves there I can stab him for the win with no guilt.
RealityCheque (1735 D)

LOL @ Alderian - I'll remember to check any deals I get with you carefully :P

My favorite statement is "I think I can do that" or even "I can do that". Some people who don't see the nuances within the English language view this as an acceptance of their request when in reality its' just admitting you are capable of executing those moves, but it doesn't mean you are obligated.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)

Anglican, I actually got a marker pen and covered Switzerland in Germany Black as an attempt at covering it, but it wasn't necessary- he never checked.
"I can do that".

I can say that too often.

You "can" say that too often, or you DO say that too often?

Yeah, you missed a question mark.

Should read:

The World Champion Writers
In the spirit of the Olympics (the only sport I care about during the Winter Games... go USA Hockey!), land because the written word is amazing... "The World Champion Writers." List the best 3 writers for each country (1 novels/poems, 1 theatre, 1 philosophy) and then we'll see who the best of the best are.

Does winning matter?
I'm looking at a game and thinking that I'm likely to survive but not win. So I'm trying to understand what happens to losers. Does the winning player get any kind of bonus for victory, or do all survivors split the pot evenly?

If the only difference between winning and a 2-way draw is 1/34 of the pot, it seems to me that this creates significant strategy differences from traditional Diplomacy...in my experience, a victory is substantially more valued than a draw.

Needles into Heavan
It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter the gates of Heavan.
This seems quite clear to me, yet the Catholic Church is said to be the richest organisation on Earth and there are millionaire Evangalists on TV. Hipocracy or is it a very big needle you have to pass through to get in?
