What is a process cycle?
I have been jumping into some live games and when 7 players join the "game will start on next process cycle" notice comes up. Usually this is no big deal. I just jumped into one that doesn't start for 1:35. When does the process cycle come up?

Gunboat/Anon/20point/WTA
I will start the game in one hour as there isn't a 5 hour option. It's password protected so post interest here and I'll start sending out the passwords. I'll be on and off for the next few hours so let me know.

Avatar the movie
Awesome, simply awesome. I saw it in 2 D first and was so impressed I went back to see it in 3 D. It is fantastic. The 3 D effects extend to the computer displays the characters are using - they have depth too. And what appeared to be "normal" photos on a wall in the 2 D version were given depth too. Amazing!

Variant Map Discussions
Where is the best place to go to discuss variant maps, either the variant itself or the implementation? If we're testing out the variant maps, it would make sense to have somewhere to go to discuss issues with the implementation or the variant itself.
I.e., on the World Diplomacy map, the reduced small map image (there's a clear rendering that's used on goonDip, not sure why we're not using it here), or underlying issues with the map (too many to mention.) My primary concern is that we'll do all this testing but either end up with no discussion on it, or end up with suggestions that never make it back to the map designers.

forum.webdiplomacy.net is the place to discuss variants, definitely

Problem is: Gilgatex an me didn't invent the variants on our own. We just take a map we like from the variantbank and make them webdip-ready. We both don't have much knowledge in map balancing and many maps have a long history of changes already. Also many of the original authors don't have valid e-mail-accounts any longer. I tried to contact them to ask for permission on using their map on webdip, but didn't get a reply (only the Imperium variant has a author still involved in diplomacy).

The problem of fixing variants is simpkle a job for testers.

I would suggest using Goondip for testing, tweaking and only putting tried and tested maps here. (like fleet rome, or milan, Sail-ho, ancient med...) some very good options.

I think that is the direction Gilgatex wants to push his site and the direction Kestas wants to push his.

i want to say that Europe is pretty much weaker than its neighbours. Russia can take safely 3 sc, egypt 2 sc while europe can safely take only 1.
I am no expert, but a few games have occured on this map over at goondip so it might be worth sounding people out there who have already played it a few times. I am in one using this map at the moment but it has been too messed up by lots of NMRs (due to the holiday period) to be a decent test for map balance. However, I think common wisdom is that some countries (Europe, Oz, South Africa) are relatively weak and have a problem of getting stuck on about 4 centres and that some other countries (Frozen Antartica) have generally done reasonably well in all games so far. Having said that it is a fun map - and a 17 player game is certainly interesting to try.

The Quibble With Christians
WHY, whenever on this site or in real life, when I ask a Christian to talk about ANYTHING philosophical, be it anything about God,HOW and IF you can know something, Free Will, How We Should Run A State... ANYTHING... They always, ALWAYS fall back on the dogma, can't leave it aside for two seconds! "God works in mysterious ways"= BIG cop out!
