another bug^^
if a unit has nowhere to retreat to, you are only able to update but not finalize because your not given any option to select (because there would be none).

this unnecessarily prolongs the turn:(

more questions
I am attacking from territory A and support that move from B. But B is attacked (and defeated), does that stop the support move? Or will my unit in B support the other move of mine and after that retreat because of the attack on itself? thanks for help

I'm Interested- A Multi-National Rushmore?
I'm curious, folks.
In light of Obama's Nobel Peace Prize (and for how I feel about that, it's in the thread concerining it, but to summarize- I like Obama... but even HE doesn't think he's worthy of that yet!) I'm pondering the great leaders of the last century:

Brits, Americans, and all others- WHO have been the 4 Leaders of Nations YOU would pick for a 1900-Now Mt. Rushmore?

Ankara Crescent
I'm not going to pretend that I know what in Prussia this game is. From what I can see though, it's naming countries at random and trying to say that you end up in Ankara?

I think it has something to do with the rulebook.
Jamiet99uk (1302 D)
09 Oct 09 UTC
It has nothing at all to do with the Diplomacy rulebook.

For an explanation of the Ankara Crescent rules, a good starting text is N. F. Stovold's "Ankara Crescent: Rules and Origins". I think this is out of print, but a good second-hand bookshop might hace a copy.
djbent (2572 D(S))
09 Oct 09 UTC
jamie, i believe that was the rulebook centurian was referring to. he obviously wouldn't be referring to the diplomacy rulebook in regards to ankara crescent. what kind of fool do you take him for?
Rommeltastic (1208 D(B))
09 Oct 09 UTC
Would it be safe to say that it's just nonsense? Because that text doesn't exist according to the sites I've been to. And reading through the games here... I may as well be invading Antarctica.
djbent (2572 D(S))
09 Oct 09 UTC
it may be, or it may be that the sites you are visiting are nonsense. where did you go exactly? there is a lot of nonsense about ankara crescent out there, on those same pages with 9/11 conspiracies and "get slim in 2 weeks" programs.

@YadHoGro....

This thread is not a game of Ankara Crescent, but a discussion about it.
Jamiet99uk (1302 D)
09 Oct 09 UTC
Besides in Ankara Crescent you only get one move per turn, not three.
YadHoGrojaUL (330 D)
09 Oct 09 UTC
Sorry, got carried away there....

Thinking about it, Pim did not exist in 1901, so my move was invalid anyway!
ParanoidFreak (100 D)

I can't find anything about this on the internet... it's obviously not an official variant, but...what???
Maniac (189 D(B))

Ankara Crescent was a old english parlour game in the oral tradition that some people belive diplomacy is based on. Whilst its heritage dates back to Henry VII some rules were first written down in 1892 and since then they have never been in print. The copyright holders of these original set of rules and all other sets of rules are still in a protracted legal arguement and as such they have never been published on the net. Good second hand bookshops tend to have a few copies as many people can't make head nor tail of the rules and seek to offload their copies quite quickly. Unfortunately so many slightly different sets of rules have been printed it is difficult for gamers to agree on a offical set.

So what is it and how do you play?
Alderian (2425 D(S))
10 Oct 09 UTC
If you can't find one of the rulebooks in a used book store, it is really best to just watch for awhile and then take a stab at a few moves. The fundamentals are pretty simple and you'll pick up all the tricky stuff along the way.
Rommeltastic (1208 D(B))

My thinking so far has been that you just move 9 zones. But I'm seeing people moving into "New York" and such. I am REALLY doubting that there's an actual way to get there.
