Draw In A Gunboat Game?
Is it considered acceptable by gunboat rules - in general - to vote for a draw in one where you think its appropriate? It doesn't REALLY seem to count as press, but it does signal some sentiment.

Oh where did that game go.....
I joined a game last night, and I just checked on it this morning, and the game's not there any more. It was in the pre-game phase. Is there any way this can happen?

Admins, Pause this game?
One of the players will be away this weekend because of his graduation.
He has requested the pause but the vote may not be passed in time.
Can we have one of the admins to please pause this game for us?

Poll: How often do you actually use "view order history"
Edi's comment in the gunboat posts got me thinking about support orders issued that don't show up on the map because the attack they're supporting doesn't happen. How often do players look over the orders issued?

I've won a game as Austria for the first time!
I believe it's the second/third time I've played the country, and it's actually pretty fun.

Missing build
http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=9007

I'm playing France in this game and I had three builds. I ordered Fleet Marseilles, Army Paris, and Army Brest. The army I ordered built in Paris did not appear on the map or in my orders.

Convoying from Constantinople to St Petersburg
Is there any rules against deliberately wasting time in an effort by two players to convoy an army from Constantinople to St Petersburg?

You should try and do it from Smyrna... More impressive that way. :D
Funny, looks like the armies are moving *away* from Constantinople.

I can assure you, we have every intention of wiping you off the game board as quickly as possible.

Nope. Nothing against it.
I've actually done it in a real conflict, to devastating effect, because of the sheer surprise.
Chrispminis (916 D)

S.P.A.O., really? That's impressive... are you sure that it was more effective than had you not bothered to set it all up and just crushed em?

You should do it from Syria because it's even more impressive than Constantinople and Smyrna because it involves one more fleet.

I wouldn't say it's illegal though it may be in poor taste if your hapless victim protests. Korimyr seems to be suggesting that they are not in fact attempting this.

Can I get an admin ruling on this? There's no rule against players deliberately wasting time? Take a look at Paris in this game. The Italians armies are practically dancing around the French, not even bothering to finish him off.

There's a strategy I've used in a couple of games; offer survival in exchange for going peacefully. Doesn't help the losing player's points, but it looks better on the stats, and hurries the game along. Hence, a reason not to "finish him off." Of course, I can't say if Italy ever made such a deal with France in your particular game.

Looking at the game it really doesn't look like they're wasting time... It looks like you've realized you're going to get defeated and are trying to find a reason to force a draw or some other way to prevent your defeat.

It'd be one thing if they were just doing support-holds along a stale-mate that they could break but you couldn't, just to see how late the game could go (as it is, it's only in 1911), but they seem to be pretty actively working to wipe you out.

I'd recommend you stop complaining and go down fighting. It'd make you look less foolish than you do now.

You had a comment from Chrisp - he's a mod.
I would agree with him (as always!) and say that this is diplomacy. You can waste players time as much as you want, but I wouldn't do it myself. Indeed, if they're doing this to you take the opportunity to try and arrange a stab or to ensure your survival!
Whenever I've done things like this we always make sure everyone alive is OK with it. In one case this was in a team game when we were finished, but one of our players was away and had a sitter (pre-pausing). Thus we were just making our way on through the phases before accepting the draw.
Caviare (123 D)

Whether it is Syria or Constantinople makes no difference to the number of fleets required: 8 either way. Still I suppose there is this corner to corner thing about Syria and StP, that the other possibilities don't have.
