Leaving after all games are finished
Just wanted to let everyone know I'll be leaving webdip after all my ongoing games are finished. Some already know, but I wanted to put it out there so everyone knows the reason I am not participating in Mafia or live games any longer.

Good physics interview
I suspect the following interview with eminent cosmologist George Ellis (coauthor with Stephen Hawking of "The Large-Scale Structure of Spacetime") is so good that it will be enjoyed even by those who suspect I am linking it only because of his religious views.

I go away for one weekend...
What the hell happened, guys? Is Draug actually gone, or is he just "gone" like usual? Do I need to pretend to miss Fasces? Did we lose anyone else? Is it all 2WL's fault?

A Farewell To Draugnar
This is meant as a farewell to one of my oldest friends on the site. In the over 5 years we knew each other, we played in many games together (when he managed to get above 0 D) and got in countless arguments. He had many flaws and was the single biggest headache to deal with out of anyone while I was a mod, but he will be missed.

Reduced sentence because of large contribution.
I won't pretend that I thought of this out of nowhere, I won't even pretend to be able to objectively judge the situation, but I want to mention an option and a potential policy change that could be better for everyone. It's a compromise. In Draugnar's case, I propose taking his medal and/or keeping him banned for a few months or perhaps even a year as a sentence, but letting him come back after that. He's not like blankflag. He contributed in many ways.

A Game for Beginners
I would like to start a game for new and inexperienced players. I myself do not have much experience and I am still fairly new to this site. I am looking for reliable players who will not abandon or leave the game simply because they're losing. If you are interested, here is the game#: gameID=145096

Webdip League of Legends
Didn't seem fair to hijack the Doda 2 thread to talk about a competitor game.

I play LoL, but I'm a newb, just hit level 20. Screenname is Redwardian. Been playing quite a bit this week, as several free champions appeal to me.

UK Webdip Face to Face
So spinning off from Abge's thread. Its been raised before but what are chances of a UK f2f? I think theres enough of us on here. Im Leeds based but spend a lot of time in London and willing to travel all over.

Ive got decent contacts for venues in a couple of cities if we can raise the interest. Thoughts below....

Survey regarding moderation and recent events
This survey is to get a statistical look at the opinions of webdip users. The questions regard the recent banning is Draugnar, silencing of Krellin, and the opinion of the moderator staff. Please fill out the survey at ( wdcb.webs.com)
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)
27 Jul 14 UTC
Question #2 in your survey is very badly laid out. I support the recent changes in moderation and don't think anything needs to be done to display the rules more clearly. The only option your survey gives me there is "I don't care". I certainly do care, but I don't want either a bill of rights or for the rules to be abolished. Your survey doesn't allow me to state my view.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)
27 Jul 14 UTC
Yeah actually this whole survey is loaded with anti-mod bias...
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
27 Jul 14 UTC
Ah I see my whole there thank you. I was not intentional, I created the survey late last night and missed a lot. What option do you suggest I place there to balance the survey, I can add the option.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)
27 Jul 14 UTC
In terms of question 2, I'd have a fourth option of "I think the rules are sufficiently clear" or words to that effect.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
27 Jul 14 UTC
I will also add I am not anti-moderation. I personally want the rules but only if they are clear. I don't personally think the staff has been aggressive but I do think that since the rules were not posted a serious moral dilemma has developed around any cases regarding the rule changes. Can you enforce rules that have not been made public? Besides that I'm in support of the mods.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
27 Jul 14 UTC
Okay. I can add that within the next hour. It takes more time to update than create lol which is weird.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)
27 Jul 14 UTC
Which recent case are you referring to?

In the case of Draugnar, prior to his final banning, he was silenced because he spammed the forum. The rule against spamming the forum is clear. It's Rule 7. There is no dilemma on that one whatsoever.

In the case of Krellin's silence, Krellin himself has stated that he has no problem with the *rules* - his complaint is that others have not been given the same punishment as him and have got off more lightly. That may be a dilemma but it's not a question of whether or not the rules are clear.

people getting banned from an internet game board forum is not a 'serious moral dilemma'...
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)
27 Jul 14 UTC
I agree with the Chairman.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
27 Jul 14 UTC
Krellin has suggested to me that his problem lies with the lack of rules being displayed and that was what I was referring to. You are right it is not the most clear survey. I think the main questions I am looking for information on are the ones regarding the aggressiveness of staff, the want for rules, and how many people feel this issue may drive them to leave. Those are the most important.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)
27 Jul 14 UTC
There are no "staff". They are VOLUNTEERS without whom the site would not be able to continue. Please bear that in mind above all else.

If whiny bitches want to leave because a few people were told off for behaving like assholes on the forum, then I say let them leave. The MAJORITY of this site's members don't even post on the forum most of the time. This is a site for playing the game of Diplomacy and the forum should only ever be a side issue.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
27 Jul 14 UTC
Staff does not explicitly mean paid position. I am unaware of a dictionary that say this. Staff usually refers to the group of people responsible for the day to day operations of an organized entity. From what I gather the mods, admins, and owners are responsible for the day to day activity of this organized site. Thus making them, by definition, staff. http://i.word.com/idictionary/staff. Now when it come to having an organized site like this it stand to reason that the more players available the better the site will be so at no point should anyone who appreciates this site see "whiny bitches" as not worth the energy to keep around. It is detrimental to a gaming community to lose even one person because depending on the connectivity of that person you may lose more, it is a ripple effect. Now I already stated my opinion on the issue and simply am placing up a survey that I volunteered my time to create for the site, something that to this scale no one else has done. I would appreciate if "whiny bitches" did not take every other word out of context and rather than argue a mute point with me assisted in improving the surveys which is how this thread started.

Commander, we've already had lengthy discussion on the forum from most parties with a vested interest in Draug being silenced/banned and krellin being silenced. The forum provides ample opportunity to both air grievances and express opinions at length without the need to distill complicated feelings about recent events to a simple "agree" or "disagree". Why is it necessary to have this survey to spit out data we already know?
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
27 Jul 14 UTC
Now I am done arguing with people, it's not something I enjoy. I prefer friendly and happy conversation. So I will leave on this note. Please fill out the survey if you don't oh well. If you are interested in helping me create better surveys in the future PM me and we can talk about it. Other PMs will go ignored because I self moderate.
You sure do love your surveys, Commander. Sandgoose recognized that anonymous internet surveys are bogus. You seem to take them rather seriously.
