I agree that it's too bad that we've arrived at a point where clear forum rules may be necessary, but let's be clear why that is -- it's not because users are worse than they ever were, or because we want them more than ever; it's because the mods have suddenly decided to start enforcing a bunch of apparently unwritten rules very rigidly, and written rigid rules are better than unwritten rigid rules. I totally agree that no (or almost no) rules would be better.
You say that the forum evolved over time to require this, and single out Draug as an example. That's ironic, because little has been more constant on this forum than Draug, hissy fits and rants included.
Anyway, you say that the forum is the main cause of users leaving. I'll ask again, as many have before: what is the evidence for this? Is it anecdotal? Rigorously collected? What, exactly, is the source for this claim? Thank you.
