Does anyone here play Eve online?
I've played the trial and love it but I don't want to be alone. Was wondering if anyone played it here.

Nope, although it looks great.

Yeah it is although I still have no idea what I'm doing

What's it about.. I'm always looking for a new game to play.

It's a kind of role playing game. You are presented with a series of choices and you can see how your actions affect the course of history.
For the first quest, you are asked whether or not to eat an apple, and the rest of the game is dependent on that first choice.

zultar, what are you on about :). It is a huge sci fi online game.

i played it for a bit, but you need to have a lot of time to devote to it to be able to succeed. it certainly does not fit around family life, so i had to quit after a while. but if it had been around when i was a student, could have been great... but then again i might have failed all my exams.
Celticfox (100 D(B))
23 Nov 13 UTC
Oh Zultar I know more about it then that since my sister played a little. Just don't know it that well. With the holidays coming up I need to figure if I should ask for a board game or a video game from Mr. CF.

what? Eve is an MMORPG with a nice economic module where you can own businesses, sell goods etc.
The economic part is still lame though.
But you can venture into the unknown galaxy, have fights with *explosions* in the airless vacuum of space lol.

So here's the thing about EVE. It's an incredibly deep and player-driven game. If you want to play a sandbox MMO where economies, laws, and civilizations are controlled by real players, you may love EVE.

The problem is that everyone is just as free as you are, but they're much further ahead. Years ahead. If you try to do anything fun, you will be griefed out if existence by one of the large alliances. So, your choices are to join a large alliance and have all your freedom taken away or try to rough it andnever do anything cool.

If you want to play in space, there are many better games. If you're good enough to play the EVE market, you're better off just playing the stock market and making real money.

What ships do you fly, Dani?

I've never played, but it sounds like a pretty incredible and deep game.

Seems like it has certain elements that diplomacy players would appreciate.

@dani

You played for 2 weeks in a rookie ship?
daniyhungre (100 D)
24 Nov 13 UTC
Uhhh I think an agent gave me a different ship. I literally have been just spamming agent missions.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
24 Nov 13 UTC
If you're spamming agent missions, I think your best bet is to train for a Caracal. Blast those rats away with missiles from 25km.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
24 Nov 13 UTC
My preferred way of playing EVE is to AFK mine dual boxing with a Hulk and an Orca.
daniyhungre (100 D)
24 Nov 13 UTC
I have no idea what that means
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
25 Nov 13 UTC
A Caracal is a missile cruiser. They are good for running missions because of their long range. You waste less time flying in range and you are less likely to take damage from the rats (NPCs).

A Hulk is a type of exhumer (Tech II mining barge). An orca is a mining support ship.

Also, the three most important rules in EVE:

1) Always keep the SP on your clone up-to-date
2) Always keep the SP on your clone up-to-date
3) Don't fly in anything you can't afford to lose.
daniyhungre (100 D)
25 Nov 13 UTC
Alright I've been keeping my clone up. I'm not making very many ISK how can I make some easily so I can afford a PLEX?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
25 Nov 13 UTC
The easiest way to quickly make isk is by ratting. In lower security systems, there are rats at belts and warp gates. You collect a bounty every time you kill a rat. Big rats can be worth quite a bit, although you'll have to work your way up to them.

Be careful for pirates (players with low sec ratings). A PVE (ratting) ship will *not* work for PVP. If you see pirates, get the fuck out.
daniyhungre (100 D)

Mining may be slow/dull but is almost always profitable.
Hunting other players may be more exciting but risky.

Running missions is spmewhere in- between.

Finally, building and selling ships may take ages, as you need skills and factories, but in the end it's probably worth it
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
25 Nov 13 UTC
Mining isn't nearly as profitable as it used to be. It is much too easy to get harassed by can-flippers. It's really not feasible to mine without a corporation or several accounts.

Manufacturing is tons of fun, but requires enormous investment and skill.

Standard WTA 36 hour phase Game
So after a live game tonight ( gameID=130059 ) - some of us decided to go for a full length game as we quite enjoyed it.

The two early quitters obviously weren't invited. Not sure if two of the other five of us want to join or not.

How do you report evidence of eating?
I was in a restaurant today and two people walked in within one minute of each other. They proceeded to order, wait for their food, and then chew erratically. Needless to say, one of them finished before me.

How do you report evidence of cheating?
I was in a game today (gameID=130191) in which the users playing both Russia and Austria played extremely erratically. Both users created accounts this afternoon, within one minute of each other. Needless to say, Turkey won. Seems to be clear evidence of cheating using multiple accounts. How can I report this?

To Train Up A Child
Heard of this book? Its methods evidently have led to the deaths of 3 children, one which recently led to a conviction of the two parents involved. Should it be banned? Should the ministry which profits off it be shut down?

What to do when you are Ally Locked?
So I'm playing this game (one of my current 9), where I am completely surrounded by GOOD allies. People I have talked into turning their backs to me and leaving their pants down. It would be impossible to advance in any direction without violating a DMZ or 100% backstabbing someone.
