the samsung impression i have doesnt let me enter my orders. it just says loading order. same thing for a blackberry

acmac - on the blackberry, there is a browser called Bolt that will allow you to enter orders. It takes some getting used to, and reading communication is next to impossible, but it does the job

The website works fine on my android. It was also possible (although incredibly painful) to enter orders on my WinMobile 6.5

iPhone/Safari. Painless, much fun. On 3G, playing a live game drains battery in about 2 hours, which can be the only problem.

Is that a gunboat game? If you can play a full live game on your phone, I'd be very impressed.

Entering moves on my iPhone is kind of a pain for live games, but is great for longer phases.

I play almost 90 percent of my games on my droid. It can be infuriating if you lose signal though

@acmac - which blackberry and which browser. I do it all the time from my 8530 Curve.

@strat - after Spring 01, use the messages link at the bottom and you can see the entire history in Bolt. I do it all the time.

@draugnar - new blackberry bold, i have the default MEdia Net. i would prefer to have advice for my samsung impression, as my bold's battery drains in about 5 minutes when I'm on the web

I can't speak for the Samsung, sorry. But the Bold should be able to run Bolt and Bolt does great. But 5 minutes? Really? My Curve gets like 3 or 4 hours of web browsing.

Draugnar, what browser do you use? The default browser on Curve 8310 is complete crap with this site.

I want to replace my 8530 Curve with new HTC Evo that will do 4G when it hits my area next year and acts as a WiFi hotspot for up to 8 devices.

I yearn for one as well, but right now I'm on a Bold 9000.

But I wouldn't even *consider* using Tether. No sirree. Spending $30 on a one time basis instead of $30 a month to AT&T, which shouldn't raise any red flags as long as I don't abuse it? That'd be silly

I use tether on my 8530. IT's great. Oh, and the courts have upheld that the provider can't do anything about it even if you abuse it. You pay either by the meg or for unlimited bandwidth and the courts have upheld that you have free access to that badnwidth when the contract is unlimited and that you are paying for the bandwidth on the per meg basis. So don't even worry about abusing it. The only reason I want the Evo is for the hotspot capability allowing my friends and I to share a connection when our families decide they want to have a picnic or something. Once the food is done and the kiddies are off playing and the wives chatting, we can crack out our laptops and play WoW. And once the 4G coverage is in greater Cinci, we can do so at speeds far superior to each of us having our own 3G connection.

I tinkered with app for push notifications, but never found the free time to finish and my school stopped paying for my Apple SDK license.

See, you could develop for the blackberry using Java ME and it would be free.

I use an iPhone, which is crap for writing long posts on the forum, especially if I enter a return, and I struggle to scroll a text box. However, compared to when I used to send orders to Cat-23 diplomacy via a Palm V/Nokia lash-up whilst sitting at the top of a hill because signal was rubbish, it is an improvement

Frankly, I see no reason for Kestas or the other developers to put effort into designing a mobile version. Better that their efforts go to email notification of messages, game phase changes and so on.

OT: My biggest tech wish is that Apple put Graffiti (the Palm handwriting to text software) on the iPhone. I know Jobs has an anti-stylus thing but cannot believe that someone else hasn't overcome that. All the current hw recognition apps are so slow as to be useless. FFS it is over 10 years since Palm had a decent system running on a much less powerful machine.

I really loved the hand writing recognition sw when I had a palm pilot. But, I'm much, much faster on a keyboard and I can now type reasonably quickly with the sense keyboard, so I don't miss the stylus one bit.

For that matter, now that I think about it, my tablet does free-form handwriting beautifully. I can write in my normal, terrible handwriting and it has almost no problems. So, I guess I see no need to ever go back to palm.

I hate all things blackberry and hate that my office requires it.
They even paid for my HTC Evo, but still won't let me use it inside the building.

My wife has a blackberry (no clue what model) and I put Bolt on that for when I was on a trip recently and it worked great. Nowhere near as convenient as a PC, but better than pausing games and NMRs.

@abgemacht: I had a Vx model which was really great but I will not go back to Palm either. There is too much that a modern PDA can do which outweighs the advantage of hand writing recognition.
