Dove in head-first…
Guess I spent all of my points on my first buy-in. Assuming I leave that game empty-handed how can I earn more points?

Can a draw be cancelled?
Say there are two players. One calls for a draw, but the other goes through with his orders one more time. Can he vote on the draw and pass it after the orders have been processed?

Convoy Rules
If a fleet is convoying an army and is attacked, does the convoy fail? Assume that the attack is by only one naval unit, so it does not win the territory.

did you refresh?

It's not like submarines "talk" to each other under water. These boats and crews are designed and trained o operate independently with a set of orders and only re-surface from time to time to get updates. The two boats would not have been in radio contact (especially if playing a cat and mouse game).

It is difficult to detect a boat with sonar if there is a lot of background noise and the boat has anti-sonar measures.

You could "ping" the other boat- but that would instantly give away your location as well.

i agree woth Otto, im sure it was most likelyan ego driven cat and mouse game that went belly up. not that the official report will say that but.

the french "allies" with the UK? well only in a sense that the UK and France have enemies in common are they "allies" . They have been rivals for a long long time. I also wouldnt put too much trust in the Britsh nuclear safety record., (power stations not the military i mean) Like most large former public industries that get privatised corners have been cut, budgets slashed and new investment stopped. money has been spent on marketing and shareholder returns instead.
Churchill (2280 D)
17 Feb 09 UTC
What about the EU? What about NATO for goodnes sake?! Not to mention that France and England were on the same side of both World Wars!

I think the term "allies" works.
airborne (154 D)

It more feels like American-Anglo Alliance loosely combined with a French-German Alliance.
Otto von Boris (875 D)
17 Feb 09 UTC
France does not have any really close allies, and it quit NATO in 1966. It does it's own thing most of the time.

I think Windscale was the UKs only nuclear accident, and it was there only for nuclear weapons development
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
17 Feb 09 UTC
Windscale/Sellafield has had rather too many incidents. In 2005 there was a leak from the Thorp plant there, and there have been a number of other incidents.

But you are right that other than Sellafield, things have generally been well-managed.

It is actually currently being decommissioned, but there are problems with doing so, because there is, in places, radioactive asbestos. Lovely.
Churchill (2280 D)
17 Feb 09 UTC
Is there anything that sounds less poisonous than radioactive asbestos?
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
17 Feb 09 UTC
Yes. I presume you mean MORE poisonous....

"France does not have any really close allies, and it quit NATO in 1966. It does it's own thing most of the time."

Sounds like the US, except the US never quit NATO. XD

Radioactive asbestos is terribly poisonous sounding...

I think it's worth noting here, though, that no one has screwed up nuclear power like the Russians. I don't see any radioactive wasteland on any free nation, no sir. Russians... man their crap is CHEAP.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
17 Feb 09 UTC
The Russians are certainly the Edi Birsans of the nuclear disaster world.

No, they lead the table.
Hereward77 (930 D)

France is part of NATO, they didn't leave in 1966. They 'withdrew from the military framework'. That means they booted out all non-French troops and retain completely independent and autonomous control of their armed forces...but they're definitely still a member.
Otto von Boris (875 D)
17 Feb 09 UTC
So.... they're a half member then? I still don't think that would make them stop shadowing a English sub (If they even knew it was English), and collecting sound signatures from them.
Otto von Boris (875 D)
17 Feb 09 UTC
Or vice-versa.

Issue with convoy?
The army at London move to Holland via convoy via convoy.
The fleet at North Sea convoy from London to Holland.
Why does it say via convoy TWICE?
Will that affect the result?

Question
Is there any way to resign a game? I joined a game not knowing it would be played under rules I wasn't familiar with. The first set of moves is not yet due, if that makes any difference. The game in question is: http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=8823

A couple of noob questions
Is there any sort of move simulator so I can see how various orders would resolve?

For the specific instance I'm thinking of, if there are fleets in Denmark and Kiel, which (if either) are considered adjacent to Berlin? I think Kiel is but Denmark isn't, but I'm not sure.

France is needed in MMIX (#8216; click on my name to find it or http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=8216).

Only 1 SC, 1 unit, no home SCs. Yet surprisingly good prospects! More inside.

Does calling someone a paranoid schizo and a wanker count as personal insults? Some people take this game too seriously, but I feel personally insulted and feel its inappropriate and not family friendly.
