I wanted to check the opinions (and maybe gather people interested) to try out something. Haven't check if such variants are already out there and have been tested - would appreciate all feedback.

What ever happened with Hicham and Tux (12966 and 12967)?
There was a post earlier today that is completely gone about their suspicious consecutive numbers and they nearly every game one is in, so is the other. That post is no where to be found although older ones that haven't had new messages since then are. So what happened?

phpDip Mobile?
Anyone have trouble accessing this from a phone? I'm using a Blackberry Storm 9530 and whenever I view a game board my chat just appears as a long list instead of having its own window with its own scroll-bar. It will go behind the map, so if I haven't talked with the person much their message gets hidden. Then it will continue down, overlapping with order information, etc. as far down as it has to.

Anyone else had anything like this? More importantly, anyone know the fix?

Lots of small-pot WTA games
I'm setting up a bunch of small-pot WTA games, with various point-levels and timescales. Anyone wanting to play WTA is invited to join some. If too many take off, then I'll CD out of a few; I can't really cope with more than five turn finishes per day.

What are your favorite and least favorite countries to play as and why?
Favorite: France. You've got good sea room for fleets, and it has excellent position on defense. I was attacked by both England and Germany at the beginning of the last game I won. I was able to fight my way back up my country by myself and eventually win. First country I ever played as well.

Trying to set up games
I have been looking around for standard time gams (24 hours or something like that) but all I find are games with 5-10 point buyins. If anyone wants to try something a little more serious(40-60 points) post here. I made a game before but no one had joined it so it seems to me all the interest is either in tiny point games or in 100+ point games that I don't realy want to play yet.

You could actually set up your own phpDiplomacy setup to play that game surprisingly easily. If any of you are genuinely interested, I can explain what things would need changing, but there aren't many (even fewer if you don't mind calling each of your new nations by a currently existing nation's name!)

The hardest nation on the board seems to be the Kalmar Union. It has a Den/Kie thing (same as the Tri/Ven), Only one netural (StP), and too many Sea spaces to cover (Ska, Bal, GoB, Nwg) But, it is hard to kill the Union the E-S and HRE would rather have the KU as an ally.

Haha, I shouldn't have posted that until I had more time! Firstly a warning - this is off the top of my head so might not be quite enough!
You need to edit the file at /install/static.sql:
Line two is the code that makes a border from Clyde to Edinburgh. Using exactly the same format (I suggest you copy the line a few times then change the data inside the speech marks), add lines for the borders between "Ireland" and "Switzerland". Remember to set the unit-type values, which for Switzerland means the 3rd value is always 'no'.

Then you need to go down to around line 1000. This should be something like:
('Denmark', 'Coast', 'Yes', 501, 422, 264, 156, 'Neutral', 'No'),
You need to add two new lines like this, replacing the first value with the name (eg 'Ireland'), the 4 numerical values to a pixel within the territory (I suggest the centre of the nation, just floating over them in an image editor will normally tell you the x and y co-ordinates). The first two of these are x&y respectively for the large map, the 3rd&4th for the small map. The next field should be filled with the name of the nation who controls it at the start of the game.

You will also need to change the 8th column for all territories that have changed. To make things simple for yourself, I suggest you set it to 'Neutral' everywhere you don't want a unit, and to a nation name (use diplomacy nation names) for each home SC.

Right, that's almost it, however you'll also need to edit the maps. These can be found in /maps/
First, change map.png and smallmap.png. You need to recolour Ireland and Switzerland to different colours. I suggest you use #FFFF00 and #BBBBBB as these will stand out, helping diagnose any errors.
The other two files will be rather harder to change, so I suggest you leave these as they are. They contain the starting situation so the script doesn't have to redraw it every game. The easiest way to make these will be to just get an agreement from everyone to hold for 1901, as then at the start of autumn you can save the small and large maps in their places.

And that should be enough. Then all you need to do is upload it onto a suitable php host and install it, which I admit isn't quite as easy as it sounds.
ps: Even if you can't find a host - does that above make sense? If so, maybe I'll copy it over to the development forum to help explain how someone could start a different 7-player variant?

Yeah I'll just copy that onto Word and call it good for now. Thanks!

Well, if/when you try and follow those instructions, do tell me how it goes. If there's a bit that doesn't make sense, or is much harder to understand, perhaps just changing that little bit will be enough.
In the much distant future (or possibly this summer if I have enough free time/ambition) I want to write a script that will allow you to build a map using just an SVG editor (inkscape is a free one) and your web browser. The idea would be you draw the map in the editor, with each nation as a different 'path'. Then script would then take you through the step by step setup to turn your drawing into a fully-functioning phpDiplomacy map. If I wrote this however, I just wonder if it would actually be used :(

Had a quick look at the source, and you also need to change lines 150-168 in /gamemaster/adjudicator/pregame.php
Change the territory names and/or unit types for the starting units each nation will have. Don't change the nation names, that would make things far more complicated.
