Well it depends. Apparently Facebook Dip has a lot more CD's and whatnot, and I like to think the better players are here. =)

I don't really know how Facebook Dip works, but I suppose you'd use your real name and have other info available to the other players, which is both a burden and a boon. If this is the case, I'd imagine that multi accounting is much more difficult.

Chrispminis: False, Facebook Diplomacy is not linked with your profile (unless you make it so). So you don't use your real name. I have the same name over there.

Multi-accounting would be easier here.

I would agree however that the players here are of a higher caliber.

How do you not make it be linked to your profile? I stopped when I realized that potentially thousands of people could see me even if we weren't friends. But I'm a little paranoid that way.

Well that's really not capitalizing on it being a Facebook app... but I suppose that would take a great deal more work. I suppose it's just a different target audience. I feel so disjointed though, not knowing anyone at Facebook Dip... not even the other mods.

I mean, I recognize it's a separate implementation but the two seem like such sister sites.

I have not been able to get a real handle on the Face Book group. For example I do not see where you can join or form a game.

How could you stop accounting? All you'd have to do is make a fake profile.

Maybe I'll do it there and live out all my multi fantasies I'm too respectful to carry out here, like a French fleet in the Black Sea or Turks on the Rhine.

Unless something has changed in the FB implementation, there was a way to track a FB phpDip user to their FB profile. It wasn't exactly straight forward, but it was achievable.

The quality of the games on this site is much better than on the FB site, in my experience.

And I just checked - you can still trace a FB phpDip profile back to a FB profile.

Really it's more or less the same thing, even using the same code. If you're a frequent Facebook user there's only one option, though most of us will prefer the community we're more involved with

Regarding merging it that was the original plan and Chris wanted to do it too, but since both sites ended up growing at about the same pace we couldn't all fit on one server (Chris recently had to upgrade the hosting he uses, with funding via ads), and it wouldn't be good for the community of either site anyway

Also I don't get the problem with tracing someone back to their FB profile :-| If FB give app developers access to your id they can't see much of a threat in it

I do not see anywhere in FB that the size there is anything near this or even running 10 games. Maybe I am looking at the wrong part of the FB.

2. where they list the games open and their stand by/replacement player list?

Once you're in you shouldn't need to look for how to create games etc because it looks exactly like this place, but in a smaller area

I play both here and on FB.

There are a few software differences - some of Java bells and whistles are not allowed in FB apps. You can't, for instance, click backwards and forwards through the map to graphically see the ebb and flow of the game. You do get the IM areas, but they don't automatically scroll to the last entry. Like I said, just missing a few bells and whistles. The game is very playable.

And yes you can get to someone else's FB Id, but, unless they're idiots and actively turned off all privacy settings, all you can do is see the tiny public photo (me on my new motorbike!) and send a friend request. No email addresses, no group memberships, no status updates, no favourite books, ...

The quality and number of players is higher here than in FB. But then, you have to actively find this place.

I can testify to the higher quality of play on this site compared to FB. I have the same account name but my record here is much worse than on FB. Of course I did start playing here before I discovered the FB version so it includes my games just starting out. I played terrible but I hope I'm getting slightly better. The move back thru the moves is one of the best features IMO about this site over FB.
