appeal to France - that's your common enemy with Italy - although, it's likely that Austria and Italy already agreed to attack you, so make the best of it. But don't give up and don't CD. Even if you see it as a charity case for the others in the game, stick it out and make them work for it. If one of them wins, they'll appreciate the fact that you didn't just roll over

Ok another disaster sitution. You are England France takes the Channel and Russia moved A Mos-StP.

My opnion is to make an assult on France and forget about Norway with Russia in Norway an attack that way is almost impossible. And talk to Germany, early Frecnh Success are bad for Germany

airborne, how is it that France got into the Channel but you can't force Norway? That would require some fantastically unorthodox openings.

By no means is the situation lost. You can easily appeal to Austria and Turkey to take advantage of Russia's weak southern position and you can ask Germany to deny Russia the Swedish SC and for help against France.

Only a few countries can encounter pure disaster turn 1.
Austria is one of them which is why the first year or two are the most important. Austria has great positionining if it can hold off for those few years and also makes a very strong ally. Russia can also have terrible openings if Sweden is denied and Rumania is denied. A russia with 0 builds will exit the game shortly. France and Germany are pretty lenient and can gain at least 1 build but even under extreme circumstances can squeeze 2. Italy can't really be taken advantage of early and can gain 1 and unless Austria and Russia both gun for Turkey and Turkey is very gullible, he should hold is own with a gain. England can be denied both Norway and Bel, but his positioning makes it hard to actaully attack it which is why its common for either Germany or France to ally with England isntead of attacking them.

Take a guess temee.

In case of disaster, you should change your objective. Your initial objective was winning the game. Your new objective is to preserve your reputation.

Look to the countries that were the most aggresive to you. Pick the country you can be most nasty with your remaining units. Put all your remaining power to that country. Do not try to defend against any other power.

In this way, the country that you are attacking gets nothing, while the other countries get all.

Possible outcome:
- Your opponents go fighting each other and you might survive.
- You will remembered as total terror when attacked.

Note however, the objective of winning is like an addiction which only few players can let go.

I was never very good in getting a very strong position on the board, but my opponents never liked to attack me and I made it often to the draw.

@Katsarephat I have been recently been reading the Game of Diplomacy and gave me some new questions. Instead of studing other articles or looking at numbers and stats I decided just to ask other players

Or you could ask everyone to pause the game and then never vote to unpause it. (sarcasm)
