Daggers-simple, fitting, recommended by the greatest, Edi Birsan. It's official, from here on D will now be Daggers(note the air of arrogance from my statement).

New Diplomacy "System"
This is a piece I wrote that was inspired by the article in Diplomacy World 104 about the Central Powers System. It proposes what I believe is a new way of thinking about the Diplomacy board, or at least a way that hasn't been expressed in these terms before. Let me know what you think.

It sounds a bit strange that a unit retreating would be able to conquer a new province...

An odd thought
In Spring '01, you're doing something wrong if everyone doesn't think you're on their side.
In Fall '01, you're doing something wrong if everyone still thinks you're on their side.
Agree/Disagree?

Russian Gas
Hi all. I don't know much about the issue, and living in the UK I would guess most of the news has rather an anti-Russian bias to it. Most of what I've read has been implying that Russia is trying to blackmail Europe into paying higher rates for gas. How's, or indeed is, this being reported in other parts of the world?

The Dance of France (Opener)
I dunno if this opener has been thought of before( most likely) but I giured I would post it since it would seem to work.

Contructive feedback would be great.

Let's see the dance.

Well the premise of this strategy is for the paranoid french player who thinks everyone is after him.

This I personally think should only be applied if after communicating with your neighbors you feel as if one or more of them have got it out for you. This strat will let you defend all your home SC's while still getting some Nuetral SC's for building.

The main moves(varying possible) is F Brest - MAO Paris -Gascony Marsielles - Hold

As you can prolly tell the main preformer in this dance is the army in gascony. From there, if you have an enemy coming from Italy, you can move marsielles to Spain and have Gascony bounce in Marsielles. From Germany, have marsielles hold and Gascony bounce in Paris. From England, Bounce in Brest. All the while your fleet in MAO should be capturing Portugal and you should then build in which ever SC your enemy is closest too.

Variants are possible in case you have more then one enemy coming at you but I imagine duirng the first year it will only be maxed at 2 enemies (if your communcating correctly) which is defendable with this stretegy.

The only downside, is your army in gacony is only being used for defence and is rather lame after 02.

Opinions?

PS soz about the message being so far from the original post, had to go help my mom with something.

If you are paranoid about Germany you tell them that you are moving to Burgundy. That should be enough to arrange a bounce. If you are paranoid about Italy do the same with piedmont, although rarely does Italy go to Piedmont and ever more rarely does he follow up wih an attack on Marsailles (its usually to support into Tyrolia).
As for England, well just tell him Germany is gunning for him. Should keep him out of the Channel.

France has one of the easiest times protecting and gaining centers. I don't think I've ever gained less than 2.

Still :P

I s'pose, I guess this is more for people who logged on 20 minutes before phase end and weren't able to communicate properly.

The gascony opening is an anti English opening. You plan on convoying into Portugal and walking into Spain with Marsailles. Then build F. Brest. This way you don't have to waste a turn getting back into the Mid. Atl. You can just support into channel or better yet, if England doesn't build F. London, take the channel and Irish Sea.

I'm still trying to figure out what the worst possible opening could be in a game. Probably Russia
A Warsaw-Prussia
A Moscow-Livonia.
F.St. Pet-Finland
F.Sevas-Armenia.

Given you aren't allowed to bounce yourself

Worst opening is for England

Just move all your units nort west

Draugnar (0 DX)

Why would you say you aren't allowed to bounce yourself? I do it all the time.
Katsarephat (100 D)

Draugnar: That's in the context of his previous post-- the worst opening without bouncing yourself (or, presumably, an NMR).

woooo's got it right. It's very useful in keeping MAO in the MAO so quick off the bat to launch an attack against England.

I think England moving all North-West (Clyde, Wales and North Atlantic) is far worst than any self bounce.
xcurlyxfries (0 DX)
14 Jan 09 UTC
nice :O but I would've held Marseilles in case of Italian/German interference.
wooooo (926 D)
14 Jan 09 UTC
If I can't schedule a bounce in Bur or Pied I like to go to Marsailles. That way if one of htem moves there anyway I can bounce them in Marsailles and finish up in Spain anyway. I know theres a chance they won't go to Marsailles but I find it to be an easier decision going back to Marsailles then deciding if I should leave it after they attack pied or Bur
EdiBirsan (1469 D(B))
14 Jan 09 UTC
There is an opening called the French Slingshot that starts with the move to Gascony and holding Marseilles (either directly or through an agreed bounce in Bur?Pied). In the Fall the French convoy Gascony to Portugal.
This works best in fact with an agreed bounce so that you tell the English that you are convoying because you were expecting to be in Burgundy and was not etc.
then you build Fleet Brest and Fleet Marseilles typically.
In the Spring 02 you order
F Mid-NAT
F Bre-Mid
Por holds
Spa-Gas
F Mar-Spa sc
and in the fall you convoy Army Portugal to Liverpool
while Gascony is used to cover Brest if the English went to the Channel.
The whole idea here is to get an army onto the British Isles uncontested into Liverpool .
You need some more work with the Germans and the Russians which I do not want to go into here, but it is a variation on the theme of going two armies south for France.
wooooo (926 D)
14 Jan 09 UTC
I like safer and more sturdy variations. I don't build in Marsailles as to not tick of Italy. If England builds in London I'd probably enjoy a bounce in the channel and move to Irish sea. Should get you Lvp regardless and if England is able to defend it it probably means you get the channel. Then it just takes some work to convince Germany that Belgium will do you more good.
xcurlyxfries (0 DX)
14 Jan 09 UTC
I personally would just use the strat for defense even though you could do a Tunis convoy if Italy is busy with Austria.
xcurlyxfries (0 DX)
14 Jan 09 UTC
**North African convoy to Take Tunis the next year if you want to fight vrs Italy instead of England.

Refusal to Pause
I've been trying to get my games paused so I can go on a trip this week and some people haven't voted for pauses yet (despite logging on). I'm not accusing anyone of malicious intent, but it brings up a hypothetical question. What happens if someone refuses to pause because you are killing them? Is that not-allowed? Is it simply frowned upon? Is it a legitimate tactic?

I need to be removed from a game (http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=8026), as there is a conflict that I need to address OOG. I don't want to throw the game from the very beginning, and the first turn hasn't taken place. Can anyone advise on how this could be done (I'm germany, BTW)?

Can Mods Please Draw Game ID#7771
Has been paused since a multi was found to be playing several countries in the game, remaining players decided to draw due to the influence of the multi making the game's results questionable. Unfortunately someone who joined as a replacement player for one of the removed multis has not logged on since joining (a week now) and since the game is paused, there's no CD to take care of it or anything.

Mods, please help
I joined a game by accident (took over CD Russia, clicked on take over instead of 'Open Game'), can the mods remove me from the game? I'm at my (personal) limit for how many games I want to play at once so I won't be able to pay any attention to this one really. I'd like there to be a chance for someone else to take it sooner than I could let it go CD.
