ha ha i have 16. And i have not played them in same game but since most games have high bets, i do not think it fair to penalise new players who have just joined. Its most disadvantageous for those who can only play one game at a time

Wiki for phpDiplomacy
I suggest that we should build a Wiki for phpDiplomacy, with screen shots, as an intro, history, etc.

The wiki articles should be divided into several categories, e.g. Games Finished, Games in process, Rules, How to Play?

I have seen wiki for many games, which was then an essential guide for me to get involved into this game.

Also, this can be a support to other running phpDiplomacy, for them to be an FAQ.

Wiki: How To Cheat
Cheating is easy. Follow these simple steps.

1. Think up about seven distinct, unrelated user names.
2. Join.
3. Open some large games, join with 2 or more of those accounts.
4. Play the games as if the accounts were one country
5. Shut up about your multi-accounts. If anyone asks, tell them 'You are jealous because you can't make such quality alliances like me.'
6. Enjoy!

you blow if
heh i know its extremely ungracious. but better ungracious than unethical. just want to reiterate my longstanding position, that if you have just one or two SCs, and rather than work in the grand coalition to stop the runaway leader, you decide to bottom feed off his victory for a few pathetic points, you blow, and everything about you blows.

i have a question for all the kids in high school (but if some you older folks want to answer this too, go right ahead)... how did you first find out about diplomacy and get hooked on it? myself, i had this crazy teacher that really liked me and a couple other people, and he had played the game before, and thought it might be fun. needless to say, it was my first time playing and i was austria... that should say it all. anyone else?

Ah, a friend at one of the traditional universities in the UK introduced it to me. I played several face to face games, which lasted for hours and were fueled by many cans of bitter and occasional trips to Gardies, the local kebab shop. Needless to say, many townies were shocked by our outraged arguments over who stabbed whom in the chip shop. (I've just realised this sounds like Cluedo...)

Discovered the site through Google (no, not the player on the site Google, the search engine), and have been addicted since the end of last year.

And I'm 23.

I'm 18, in my last year of high school. I was introduced to Diplomacy by a History teacher, and I played a few face to face games with some friends. It was a lot of fun, and I would later discover phpDip through google. I've been here since.

I found a board in a cupboard, became interested, and tried to have a game. Nobody wanted to. A couple of years later I recalled the game and went looking for somewhere to play it, and hence found this site through Google (again the engine).

Our debate teacher played it once in class and then showed us the site.

I found this site whilst looking for a map, because I intended to write a php version of diplomacy. No joke, i was looking for a map, to make sure i didn't make any mistakes, and one of the best maps i found was on here.
Not quite sure when i first heard about the game, probably from a friend who was desperately trying to get people together for a game, but it never did work - he just couldn't find the same 7 people for long enough to play!

I'm 16. A friend's dad had an old copy of the game and I played it face-to-face with he and his son. Later, more of my friends got addicted through the same venue and we started playing FtF more often. Then one of my friends found this site somehow and I'm more addicted to Diplomacy than I ever thought I could be.

As a lonely teen in the middle of nowhere i bought the game...and had no one to play with. It collected dust in the cupboard. years later- 2 months ago i was thinking of buying a new pc game coz i wanted to get in to online gaming but im not a big RPG fan (prefer total war.civ 4) when diplomacy popped into my head, wikipedia sent me to this site and a few others. this one stood out as the most accessible and best looking.

My debate teacher showed me they board game in class. A few people in the room got hooked on it, including myself but that was all. So the in-class game stalled, thus forcing us to quince our need of diplomacy else where, and now here we are.

I came across the board game about twenty years ago. I could play very few satisfactory games, then it remained stacked home for a while...I introduced my son to it but I could finally play real 7 players game when I was pointed at this site. Thanks to all who made this software and site work!

Best Dip Moment
What has been your best diplomacy moment on this site, a stab that was so great that you bring it up in your daily conversations, a victor so overwhelming, or just a strategy that you stuck to and did well.

I would have to say that I think mine would be in the game East (http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gid=2378) where I saw that Russia had not turned in orders, changed mine real quick and ended up with three supply centers that turn.

World War I games
So we have had three so far right? with 2 wins to the Allies and 1 victory for the Axis powers. what did people think? i liked the team work involved but maybe a different mix of countries would make it more exciting and throw up battles in different places. With the current WWI teams it seems to lead to a diagonal line of units from tunis thru swiss and up to st petes once italy is removed from the picture. different teams and including italy, could we do it?
russia, turkey, england vs france, austria, germany ? the centre vs the periphery?
or a more hedgehog approach to team making?
ideas?

How you go into a game with players you've played before
It seems a lot of people have talked about going into games fresh and not bringing preconceptions about other players into the game, and for the most part I have agreed on this point. But I was thinking about it some more lately, and I think I've changed my stance some. I still agree coming into games always allying with the same people, unbreakable alliances, etc. are not good...but to say I shouldn't remember how I've seen X person play? I'm beginning to think something is lost there. Thanks to Kestas, we've been building up a community of players here, each with our own idiosyncrasies and playing styles...why not explore them?

Each game I play, I have the opportunity to learn how to play better...say, when using a certain tactic might not be a good idea/is particularly effective...why shouldn't I also learn what negotiation tactics work better with a certain player? Or that he or she stabs often or rarely? Doesn't my body of knowledge about a player and how I try to use it to my advantage take the game to higher level? Yes, a new player hasn't had the same amount of experience as me, but they'll get it soon enough...and it cuts both ways, as I, in turn, know nothing about them and he or she is a wild card and must be treated with differently. But would this prejudice people against allying with new players? I think not, as it would be foolish to limit your options at the get go. It's just a different kind of negotiations.

So that's what I've been thinking...I'm particularly interested in what the rest of you think.

Competition... Great Prizes... (to be announced)...
Roll up, roll up, for the Great phpDiplomacy Competition.

Two questions, both relate to a winning position on the map:

a) What is the largest area of colour that can be achieved for an 18 Supply Centre win...?

and, a little more difficult...

b) What is the smallest area of colour that can be achieved for an 18 Supply Centre win?

Name the starting country and the exact list of all territories gained, not only supply centres...

Have fun.

How is there a game with two countries in civil disorder from the beginning at 1901? Also, how does Civil Disorder Germany and Civil Disorder Italy always happen to be in civil disorder and always happen to enter a game as either Germany or Italy respectively? And how do they stay at 100 points?

What's the feeling being the Top50 players on the site?
Being a player on the top of the ranking list, how are you feeling when you play a game?

Would your position affect your game in some way? Will your position helps or not helps to play with other players?

100point players may suggest you know, " let's finish Rait off first, he is dangerous and frequent to win!" while 1000point players may say to each other" let's elimite our green hand neighbour first and keep peace until we have to face each other at last."
