GaryOak, GaryOak2, GaryOak3, GaryOak4, Sweens18 and Sm3llymcg3e3e are definitely the same person, same start dates and yes GaryOak's email was the [email protected] or w/e and their creation dates are all the same, and they are in games together. I also have suspicion that Fool422 and Plasma are him too because the dates are right there too and they are in games together too (but I might be wrong about the latter two). Also Comrade (who commented here to protect his friend) is also Tsar, Spetznatz, Jesse James, and Putin. These are only a few of their accounts, I am sure they have another dozen.

And just putting it out there, Sorel and batbat45 are in several games with at least one of the following: GaryOak, Sm3llymcg3e3e, and Sweens18. The creation date is similar too.

Well this is all very interesting and all... but what is it accomplishing? I am personally in a game with GaryOak and Comrade and neither of them are multi-accounting in it. I say give them a week and see if they reform... don't hyperventilate over this... seriously the forum is becoming a witch-hunt forum. Let Kestas do the banning the deciding on all this, and don't start up on the whole "I have a suspicion," thing. In the end, your suspicion doesn't matter. My first post stands. This evidence is circumstantial. The best the prosecution has is a confession and an apology. So obviously the way to proceed, unless you have some kind of unjustified personal beef with Gary (this means you ComputerMonger) is to drop your charges and wait for a result pending the judge's (Kestas') decision. I would really prefer in the future if we could keep the whole mood of these forums, and this site, nice and jovial, like you might think a game-playing website would be.

I don't think the claim was that GaryOak and Comrade are the same person. I think the claim was that GaryOak was using multiple accounts. ComputerMonger got carried away and started mentioning other people who assumed were multiaccounters, such as Comrade.

And, also implied that he was playing games with only himself. (I assume to increase his points.)

No those were with comrade's former multis. But like I said they are dropping them, partly at my pressure.

I think a freely-given confession is sufficient proof that there has been an issue. It is, in fact, better proof than is normally presented here.

The apology and commitment to cease and desist multi-accounting is also sufficient, but the sincerity is clouded for me by the rude comments of the (soon-to-be) reformed multi-accounters. Comrade and GaryOak: You did something wrong; do not tell people who have a problem with this to kill themselves.

I emailed Kestas directly 2 to 3 weeks ago alerting him to the issue with Comrade and GaryOak. He is clearly too busy to chase down and "investigate" every situation. The fact Comrade stated on the Forum that he is currently using two accounts in one game, and yet neither account has been frozen, illustrates the extent of the problem - people are brazenly multi-accounting, and Kestas does not have the time to ban their extra accounts even when they admit it.

1. People need to be accountable for themselves. If you created multiple accounts, and now see it was wrong to do so (Comrade), then please immediately stop using any account other than your main one. Allow the other accounts to go into CD in all games.
2. I still believe a reliable players' list, maintained by the community, is the best way to ensure accountability. There would be a mechanism for new players to get on the list, but, for the most part, reliable players would only play with other reliable players. This should create a strong incentive not to multi-account, without penalizing relatively newer players with fewer points, who, at present, seem to be regularly exposed to bullshit.
3. I truly hope the next version will have an "abandon game immediately" option. That way we can avoid some of this stuff on the forum, and people can simply leave games where someone is using multiple accounts or there is otherwise unfair gameplay taking place.

Lol that's fine by me Mahatma. I haven't been adversely affected by this so far so im willing to let slide these kinds of things, but I understand the angry sentiments of both parties. I was trying to be a bit of a third-party here. Anyway, I suggest (if you'll pardon this oxymoron) that no one give any more suggestions and let this play itself out.

First of all, to Comrade and GaryOaks, and all of their other aliases... please calm down. There's no need to lash out at others, especially if they are correct. Nobody's being "holier than thou", you just need to learn how to take criticism. The fact is, you guys did multi account, for whatever reasons. There's no sidestepping that with any excuses. However, a second chance is in order, because I do believe that you wanted to play a game together. However, the other accounts should be frozen.

Secondly, I do believe that we need a tougher stance versus multiaccounting, seeing that it seems to be getting worse and worse, which is strange, because I can't imagine why anyone would do it. However, I don't agree to a reliable player's list. The intentions are good, but it would consequently alienate newer players, forcing them to prove themselves. Players should be assumed to be reliable and be proven unreliable, rather than assumed to be unreliable and be proven reliable. I have always thought of phpDip as a project to create a userfriendly environment in which anyone can learn and enjoy Diplomacy.

When accounts are created, it should be made very plain and clear that multi-accounting is not allowed. Anyone who uses multiple accounts will be banned. Simple. This will probably be made more effective when Kestas implements moderators who will have more time to address these issues.

You are freading out about a game. Sure its fun and everyone likes it, but honestly its not that big a deal and you are making it one.

chris: totally agree. What would be nice would be if could have an unreliable list somewhere, with players/pairs that had been suspected with reasonable proof. This could be hidden if wanted, allowing modorators to collect enough data to find someone guilty before taking action.
