Inheritance: Interesting case
Since we have had a number of debates here in the past about inheritance and the law, I thought some of you would be interested in this case from the UK:

Off to Join the Navy
Well folks, three weeks from today, I leave to join the NROTC unit at the University of Notre Dame. I expect that will severely limit my Diplomacy playing time. Thanks for all the fun. I'll be back.

Thucydides,

For one who takes a very absolute view of the command, "Judge not, lest ye be not judged," you certainly are very free (both here and elsewhere) to assert things about people that you have absolutely no way of knowing. I guess that's another inconsistency.

Your little argument here amounts -- if one cuts through the lofty language -- to, "If you agree with me, you're consistent without worrying about it. If you don't, you're both inconsistent and insincere. In neither case do I need to supply any evidence or argumentation."

Reality does not present evidence or argumentation, which is precisely why one cannot accept it as a faithless skeptic. You must make a leap of faith and affirm it yourself, and then you enter into a relationship with it which sustains you forever. Call that lofty if you want, I call it the foundation of truth. Judge not, yes. This means do not cast people as lower than yourself.

Thucy,

"Judge not, yes. This means do not cast people as lower than yourself."

Sweet, so you're going to stop that now?

None of this addressed my complaint, though. So I won't respond further, but point back at my last post.

Anyway, you asked earlier where it was that you longed for somebody's death. I finally had time to look for a few minutes on google, but was unable to find the conversation I think I remember. So, while I still think I remember it, I'll retract that accusation for the time being, with an apology. Your active fantasizing about my death in the other thread falls short of longing for my death.

As to your discussion of "oneness": the problem with it is that, if you believe that the unity of the universe is more fundamental and less artificial than the distinctions you make when you name things, then so also the misbehaviors you decry are more fundamentally the universe's good actions on itself than they are one person's actions against another.

Somebody murders somebody? That is just the unitary universe, of which there is only one, each part of it evolving naturalistically according to its laws. Oh sure, you can (you'll allow) name the different parts of it and say that one part "killed" another part, but *more fundamentally* it is just the glorious unitary universe being itself.

How does this not follow from what you say? (Perhaps I have misunderstood one of your foundational assertions).

************************Paging Thucy and Smeck************************

PLEASE SHUT UP.

This is absolutely disgraceful. You both have turned what should be a congratulatory thread, or at least a thread to offer civil advise, a time to bid a liked member farewell for a while, etc, into your own personal flame war. Please take this to PM, another thread, email, whatever. But I implore you both to leave this thread alone.

Thanks,
A really embarrassed member of this community.

Quite right JMO. I apologize for derailing your thread, Cyrus.

Thucy, I'll let you have the final word in a PM if you wish, or start another thread if you'd like it to be public.

KC, keep us updated on deployment status and all that. Or at least keep me updated if you don't want to make another thread like this (understandably).

Then again, 10 +1s, not bad..

Will do Bo. I can tell you now that I leave for a week of training at a nearby military base before school starts. The summer will bring CONTRAMID, a 6+ week tour of all the communities in the Navy. (SWO, Subs, Pilots, Marines, Special Forces)

Good luck to you KC. It's great to see intelligent, moral and sane people becoming part of something like the navy.

Why do people think the moon is old?
Have you ever been to the moon? no. The few astronauts who supposedly went to this so called 'moon' are all controlled by the government, who are too afraid to admit the truth.

taking over CD positions
When I first started here, I made the mistake of taking over CD countries in existing games. That's pretty hard to win at, especially when new to the game. And I learned taking over CD positions was fruitless and thankless.

My question is, now that Reliability Ratings are up and running, does taking over CD countries do anything to improve RR?

Every car keeps track of the amount of km or miles driven..
With regards to the engine for instance, wouldn't it make more sense to track the amount of rounds (not per minute, but total)? And perhaps the average rpm? Or is rpm not the key factor in ruining your engine?
