As long as you don't spam, go for it.

If you show no emotion and/or don't respond, there's no real chance of the person stopping. The only shot at getting someone to back off is by communicating. The tone of communication varies by situation and prior relationship.

Have you considered it wasn't a stab, and you just inferred a promise that wasn't there? I hear there are some very high caliber players that don't lie or stab at all here, maybe you ran into one of them and you're just misunderstanding?

Start by whining, then try to wine and dine them back to your side. Offer them something that they can get from coming back to the dark side, I mean your side, that they wouldn't get from anyone else.

Or you stab at a bad time for both of you- I will absolutely complain if the stab makes both of us worse off than we were before the stab.

I don't mind being stabbed at a time that was *good* for the stabber. I should have seen that coming.

I have succesfully whined myself from a stab into a solo. If it works, it is fair game.

So on a serious note, when I asked this question, I was told that while there's some poor players who hate getting stabbed for any reason, most good players understand it's part of the game. Now, if you spend multiple hours a day for week(s) getting them to trust you then stab them for two centers, some people don't like how much of their time was wasted. Or I'll get incredibly angry if someone stabs me throwing the game when I've never done them any harm that game. But those are specific scenarios.

Yeah, I pretty much concur. Mapu and Valis have put together some solid points.

Whine or not, don't stop communicating. It can turn the game around when you're persistent and continually look for something to offer the stabber or his allies.

rest assured Valis, if and when I get the chance to stab you, I won't do so without intending to fully wipe you off the map. no lame 2 center stabs from me.

There's a chance I get Best Stab in the 2014 tournament for making 7-way draw. I recently drew a 0-SC ssorenn after stabbing him and taking all his dots but then someone else stabbed me and I got so mad I decided that I didn't want him to get any more tournament points that the poor guy I just stabbed and almost eliminated and pushed draw. Those are just some of the interesting stabs involving draws. There's plenty more stories and stances.

I rather not talk about the ODC or ongoing League games when it's going on, but there's plenty of stabs there too.

I'd agree with a lot of the opinions here.

There's nothing to be taking personally about a well thought out strategic stab, people have always got to do what's best for them and if they got me more power to them.

On the other hand nothing annoys me more then losing a game due to somebody else's foolishness. Ultimately we all want the best player to win (and we all want to be that best player) so it can certainly be frustrating when the outcome of the game is decided not based one of the players great play but rather someone elses play being so very bad that that they not only shoot themselves in the foot but the collateral damage of their bad judgement also ruins somebody else's game or inadvertantly opens up a window for someone else's solo.

gameID=149022 and its EOG is an examination of taking a mute/hard stance against getting stabbed. I'm told it just made me look infantile and wasn't any more effective than any other policy. Happy to hear ssorenn's thoughts on it too of course, between Destroy All Monsters, A2:G1, A2:G2(ongoing), etc I think I've done that to him every game.

gameID=155165 is an example of where I try to stab Russia, he laughs in my general direction, and then I promise just to be his friend no matter what and beg forgiveness by blindly going after I/A hoping he'll accept my offer...it doesn't work and they 6-way draw without me.

I ththink thathere are times in which whining/ spamming may be appropriate. An example of this is during a juggernaut if you are Austria.

Wow, I forgot about that game. I'm glad I could contribute to a stab that Valis liked. I'll have to go back through the press in that game and figure out what it was that stefanodangello and I did well.

I don't whine. I might cry a little, but not publically. And I never stop talking. To anyone that will listen. Sometimes I've re-allied with someone that's stabbed me, usually to prevent someone else from soloing. But do not imagine you can stab me with impunity. Please.
