Too experienced for the School of War? Or maybe you just don't have the time? Have you had one of those games where you felt like you did everything right, but got killed or soloed on anyway? This series is for you!
Presenting "Where did I go wrong??", the forum series where we take an anonymised, finished game that went badly for a particular player (submitted by the player in question), and examine it SoW style.
Here's how it works:
We'll post one game at a time (anonymised - maps only) in the forum. Games might be accompanied by a question from the submitter, or they might not if there wasn't one. There will be a couple of official commentators to kick things off with a bit of commentary SoW prof style about where the game went south, but commentary and discussion is welcome from all members. You can't affect the outcome of a finished game!
Submissions for games are to be made with the gameID either via PM to me, or via email to
[email protected] with the subject line "Where did I go wrong submission". Feel free to include detail or a question (eg "I thought this alliance with France was going so well, but as we progressed I just found myself in a more and more vulnerable position until his eventual stab- how could I have stayed allied but not so vulnerable?" - or "how was Austria able to solo so easily from what looked like a terrible position in 1905" or simply "This game didn't go well. Help."). You're also welcome to include any extra information that relates to your question - but keep in mind it will all be posted in the forum. Of course, please submit your own games only.
We're also looking for commentators! PM or post here if you're interested in being an official commentator. This is a commitment to kick the discussion off with an answer to "where did it all go wrong". Ideally you would be an experienced player, or an active forum member, or both! Also ideally you would not be commentating in the current SoW games (although if you really want to, I'm not going to stop you). The main difference between official commentators and members in this series are (1) bragging rights, and (2) you've promised to write something.
(if we get no volunteers for official commentators, I'll assume there probably won't be any UNofficial commentators, and so the series won't run)
Submissions of games welcome from all players of all skill levels. I hope this series will produce some interesting discussion!
