Santa and Jesus are WHITE GODDAMNIT, says Megyn Kelly
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/fox-news-host-megyn-kelly-says-jesus-and-santa-are-white-193322244.html
1. We'll leave Jesus being a "historical figure" alone here, that's up in the air (not even saying I don't think he might've been, just saying.)
2. ...Does it REALLY matter if people want a Black Santa? Really?
3. You're gonna tell me a Jew in the Middle East 2,000 years ago had pearly-white skin? O.o Um...no.

21 million Bitcoins
There are currently just over 12m Bitcoins in circulation. The number of Bitcoins allowed to exist is capped at 21m Bitcoins - once the 21 millionth Bitcoin has been mined, no new Bitcoins will be created.

What will happen when the 21m Bitcoin mark is reached?

Time Stamp
A time stamp seems like a bit of a weird thing to include standard in a diplomacy game. For the older members, has it always been here? Was there a reasoning behind its implementation?

You'll never guess what my Biology teacher teached me...
Some not-too-fast girl thought there's oxygen in your urine.
The teacher explained: "there are no bubbles coming out of your wheenie!!" or something like that, roughly translated. She's hilarious.
In all honesty that was a small walk down memory lane, but anyway :)

Abolish the TSA
This editorial was in USA Today (!) and makes a pretty good case - the TSA has never actually caught a terrorist, its incentives do not line up with those of travelers, and the type of terrorism it was designed to deter doesn't actually happen anymore.

Inheritance Tax
I an inheritance tax (on sums larger than a certain amount, leaving a small sum to the heirs), keeps the capitalistic system going, levels the economic playing field somewhat, and requires the would-be dependents to go out and work. Furthermore, one who didn't want to pay in the form of taxes could give to the community through charitable donations. This system was supported by Andrew Carnegie in his "Gospel of Wealth", what arguments could be raised against it?

I wish I was this rich if I ever was in trouble
http://www.insideedition.com/headlines/7481-rich-teen-avoids-prison-for-fatal-dui-with-affluenza-defense

The son of rich Dallas parents got two years probation at a ultra rich rehab camp after killing 4 people and injured others when he drove at 70 mph into the group helping a motorist change a tire. The kid claimed he couldn't tell right from wrong because his parents bought him everything including apparently the judge.

MLB Cracks Down on Home Plate Collisions
http://espn.go.com/mlb/hotstove13/story/_/id/10121849/mlb-intends-ban-home-plate-collisions-2015

What do people think about this? Are players getting soft, or is it about time?
krellin (80 DX)

Good for the MLB. The premise of the home plate collision is this: "Damn, I got beat out by the throw. Oh well...maybe if I blast the catcher hard enough he'll drop the ball..."

If the catcher has time to position himself in the base line, then the runner should be out.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

Of course it's good for the MLB. Was losing Buster Posey worth defending one run in one game of a 162 game season? Would losing Yadier Molina be worth that? Would a career ending injury be worth that? With the way players eat up the payroll, the catcher, typically underpaid to do a hugely important job, is far too important.

Some of my friends were debating this on Facebook, and one of them played the ultimate Win Card for any debate:

"If people wonder why I'm so passionate about this issue, well . . . I lost my left testicle in a home plate collision during a college intramural game."

Check and mate. Give that man the win.

In other news, Rob Gronkowski gets his knee blown out last Sunday why? Because, in order to avoid penalties and fines in the NFL, defenses will not start tackling *low* to avoid and helmet-to-helmet contact...which for some refs has now become shoulder-to-shoulder contact = penalty.

Stay tuned for a dramatic increase in season-ending knee injuries in order to "protect" NFL players...

@Krellin,
The difference there is that football requires tackling. Take out all the hitting and there's no game left. It's not evident that the same can be said of baseball.
hecks (164 D)

^ Well, okay, if you take out all the *hitting* baseball would be really boring... but... you know what I mean. All the tackling.

@hecks -- errr....I *agree* with the MLB...not sure how I could be any clearer about that.

That being said, the NFL making asinine decisions about how you can tackle someone in a brutally violent sport is a bit ridiculous. Whever you apply the amount of force these guys apply -- which is basically like getting in a car crash, as Reggie Bush describes it (imagine 20-30 car crashes in one day...) -- some body part can/will be injured.

Do you want to risk a head, which has a protective covering and is recessed from the shoulder...or a knee, very fragile, and able to be destroyed in a single blow.

NFL has chosen to protect the head. Knees will blow as a result so that players can avoid $10's of thousands in fines.

@Krellin,
Oh, I missed that the first post was yours as well, and only noticed your second one. I thought you were drawing an analogy between the helmet-to-helmet rules and the proposed home-plate rules, calling both detrimental.

As to the NFL, I think their efforts are well-intentioned, but there's only so much you can do to protect somebody in a game that requires that much contact. The result is that people are getting badly hurt in different ways. It's pro football, and whatever rules you establish, guys are going to find the most efficient method within those rules to fuck each other up. That's the name of the game.

Gunboat Games
What is the best way to improve at gunboat games? I've been told several times that I am a worthless waste of space. And I would like to become a waste of space with a minuscule bit of worth. How can I bridge the gap? I tend to do better when I can manipulate people into what I want them to do.
