Santa and Jesus are WHITE GODDAMNIT, says Megyn Kelly
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/fox-news-host-megyn-kelly-says-jesus-and-santa-are-white-193322244.html
1. We'll leave Jesus being a "historical figure" alone here, that's up in the air (not even saying I don't think he might've been, just saying.)
2. ...Does it REALLY matter if people want a Black Santa? Really?
3. You're gonna tell me a Jew in the Middle East 2,000 years ago had pearly-white skin? O.o Um...no.

21 million Bitcoins
There are currently just over 12m Bitcoins in circulation. The number of Bitcoins allowed to exist is capped at 21m Bitcoins - once the 21 millionth Bitcoin has been mined, no new Bitcoins will be created.

What will happen when the 21m Bitcoin mark is reached?

You'll never guess what my Biology teacher teached me...
Some not-too-fast girl thought there's oxygen in your urine.
The teacher explained: "there are no bubbles coming out of your wheenie!!" or something like that, roughly translated. She's hilarious.
In all honesty that was a small walk down memory lane, but anyway :)
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

She obviously didn't teach you the past tense.

Of course there is oxygen in your urine. The substance that gives urine its name, urea, is CO(NH2)2.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
11 Dec 13 UTC
Sorry, not enough context. The conversation was about molecules, not atoms.

No O2. Maybe urine isn't the right word either. Pee?

I immediately realised my mistake after I posted but I thought maybe it went unnoticed.

If I'm still saying something stupid, blame my Biology teacher :)

O2 and O are both refered to as Oxygen, at least in english.

You might be more precise, and say 'molecular oxygen' to refer to the O2 molecules we find in the air (and disolved in water, and probably urine - especially is you mix it up with some air) but i don't think people talk about 'atomic oxygen' to refer to the element (or even elementary/elemental oxygen)

Also i guess your biology teacher wasn't teaching chemistry/physics at the time...
steephie22 (182 D(S))
13 Dec 13 UTC
"TIL that Dutch girls have wheenies."

That's what makes it funny, the way she said it...
And the title was to lure the dirty-thinking people in.

Am I really that hard to understand?

orathaic: yeah, it's comparable with Dutch in that aspect. I just didn't think of the fact that there's an O in urine :) And no, not teaching chemistry/physics... Not sure what you need to know of chemistry to be a vet though (right word for animal doctor?)? Also, the context was more what is in urine that makes it useful to make it and get rid of it, so the O in it was irrelevant. It also was back when I was 14. I suppose she didn't think the sentence through that much :)

That weirdo went from vet to teacher voluntarily...
Not exactly a promotion, at least not here...

13 Dec 13 UTC
And yes vet, short for veterinarian.

Though you might also use it to mean 'check a persons quality', as in vetting players before sending them the password for this live game... (sometimes looking up qualifications, when going for job interviews)

Or according to wikipedia, it is also an abbreviation for veteran, so you might vet the noob but let the vet play without vetting...

Yeah, I figured veteran was another possibility for vet, but I didn't know vet was short for veterinarian. I just learned the word vet at school. Hence I wasn't sure.

Thanks for clearing that up.
And that's a funny sentence :)

No problem Draug. No rush I suppose. Although I'd like an answer before tuesday for optimal efficiency :P

Well, then to clarify (as they picked on you for using it) the word is "taught" not "teached". My teacher taught me...
orathaic (1009 D(B))
13 Dec 13 UTC
Draug's sentence was a bit better than mine...

But also whine and whinge are two different words, with very similar meaning. I don't think i could distinguish a whiner from a whinger...

Though as pure sounds a weird whine coming from my car's engine, might be a sign of mechanical fault, whereas a weird whinge coming from my car's engine indicates some kind of paranormal infestation, or semi-sentient AI which is suffering... (crazy whingey ghost/AI)
steephie22 (182 D(S))
13 Dec 13 UTC
Ah, right. I missed that one. I sort of knew, but teached sounds better to me...

How about past continuous (or however it's called? Lolz...): My teacher has taught me, correct? Or has teached me... Hmm... I think the first one, but not sure...

(I suppose I could google, but this is more fun :P)

My teacher was teaching algebra for three days before we explain(ed) we had already been taught it.

Correction to ora's sentence. Explain is future tense. Explained is past tense was teaching put the sentence in past tense. To use explain, he needed to say "will be teaching". Like in the lyrics "It'll still be two days till we say we're sorry."
steephie22 (182 D(S))
13 Dec 13 UTC
I bet it is, hecks. I knew what you meant, and like I said, I really don't mind if you make fun. What's wrong with fun?

Never mind orathaic. The Dutch words we use for English tenses are too different to explain this I suppose, but I meant a different tense :)

Like I said though, never mind.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
13 Dec 13 UTC
And wheenie is rather rare, (google suggests weenie, which i might add is an american word, rarely used in UK english) though wheenies/weenies do occur in magic the gathering, a wheenie deck is one with lots of tiny (cheap) creatures who swarm forward and gang up on their opponent, there are lots of them because they are so cheap... Though i think i'd still call the weenie decks, wheenie is ok.

But continuous past 'was teaching' is what i got from the internet.

I wondered if your teacher meant to say "wee-wee" instead of "wheenie." It would make a lot more sense, since "wee-wee" is slang for urine.

Am/is/are teaching, was/were/has been teaching, will be teaching. Present past and future continuous.

And "wee wee" is commonly used as a kid-friendly way of referring to non gender-specific genitalia when referencing urination.
hecks (164 D)
13 Dec 13 UTC
Yes, "wee-wee" is slang for either the genitals or urine, depending on its use.
Draugnar (0 DX)
13 Dec 13 UTC
It's also commonly used for the act of urinating as in a little kid dancing around going "Mommy! I gotta wee-wee!"
orathaic (1009 D(B))
13 Dec 13 UTC
Yep, all three uses. Also pee-pee, as in 'i gotta go pee-pee out of my pee-pee and while you can drink pee-pee because urine is sterile, there are no conclusive tests showing any health benefits.'

Abolish the TSA
This editorial was in USA Today (!) and makes a pretty good case - the TSA has never actually caught a terrorist, its incentives do not line up with those of travelers, and the type of terrorism it was designed to deter doesn't actually happen anymore.

Inheritance Tax
I an inheritance tax (on sums larger than a certain amount, leaving a small sum to the heirs), keeps the capitalistic system going, levels the economic playing field somewhat, and requires the would-be dependents to go out and work. Furthermore, one who didn't want to pay in the form of taxes could give to the community through charitable donations. This system was supported by Andrew Carnegie in his "Gospel of Wealth", what arguments could be raised against it?
