Why wouldn't the NSA screw with American elections?
Motive? Check. Means? Check. Opportunity? Check.

How exactly would the outcome differ? Republicans and Democrats are essentially identical when it comes to national security.
The article covers that exact point -- some prospective candidates within both the Republican and Democratic parties are very vocally opposed to the NSA's operations, and if they were to run for the presidency, you'd have a prospective target.

Plenty of politicians are vocally opposed to a lot of things, but the ones that would actually do anything aren't really electable to begin with.

If you rig elections, you end up with political situations like that of Kenya o_O

Could have picked a number of East African, Southeast Asian, or Middle Eastern countries if you wanted.

Republicans and Democrats are two sides of the same coin. Both are statists at heart regardless of the rhetoric.

I fail to see why the crowd who thinks the two parties are the same worries about election manipulation. Isn't this like worrying about if a WWF match is rigged to you guys?

"Republicans and Democrats are two sides of the same coin. Both are statists at heart regardless of the rhetoric."
Of course they are, they play by the same rules and want exactly the same outcomes but differ on how those outcomes should be achieved. This is what causes political stalemate, mindless people arguing incessantly about minor details based on party political lines, none of these people have the courage or moral fortitude to do what is actually required because to speak the truth may harm their own popularity and status, too many politicians are self-serving. You need a peoples President who actually listens to the People and not the Pentagon.
The answer my friends is blowin' in the wind, the answer is blowin' in the wind...... (gratuitous lyric there from the peoples poet completely unrelated to what went before it)

I agree completely.

"You need a peoples President who actually listens to the People and not the Pentagon."

I disagree completely. We need a President who has read and understands our Constitution. We need a President who only seeks one term. We need a President who is accountable to the people, not his/her corporate sugar daddies and super PACs. The Republicans might be on their knees for the Pentagon, but the Democrats are equally on their knees for tree humpers, welfare queens, criminals, thugs, illegal aliens, and other degenerates.

I 100% agree with Putin here. For all of you that think the 2 parties are exactly the same, then go ahead an pull the lever for Republican next time around, because it makes no difference either way, right?

"Wha...whhh..what??!?!?!" they will splutter and moan. "I'd never vote for a Republican!!!" and idiocy is now confirmed....

Most people just blather the politically correct social rhetoric they have been taught to spew, and don't bother to think about whether or not their spoken words match their actual manner of living...

....like the environmentalist whackjobs that think carbon energy is destroying the planet...and yet never do a thing in their life to curb their energy use. I have no use for such fools.

Putin...my bosom buddy and ally....i think I love you.

I kinda love people that think like this, it conjures up a mental picture of someone who dribbles and speaks with a drawl, wears a cowboy hat and carries around a shot gun over his shoulder and shags his sister at weekends because he can't get cable. When he's not shouting at the radio he's out back shooting cans and drinking moonshine, his teeth are all rotting and he has a glint in his eye that spells ignorance and stupidity. At night he is outside howling and throwing stones at the moon. Call him a faggot and he'll hang you from the nearest lynching tree ... yippee aye ay !!

"the ones that would actually do anything aren't really electable to begin with."

Ding ding ding. Do you ever wonder why that is? And is there something wrong with this, or is it proof that "the system works", because concerns about government bureaucrats using the power of their position to influence elections in their favor is something only krazy konspiracy kooks would ever think of?

Do these same conspiracy theorists ever make a peep when, say, as in 2012, private corporations threaten their workers if they don't vote the right away? Of course not - Tolstoy's the same person who thinks the secret ballot should be eliminated - so corporations are free to pressure whomever.

I caught a repeat of a TV programme with Dara O'Briain the other day. The premise was that any word you choose in the dictionary could be guessed by someone who could ask you 20 questions. I'm not sure if this is true.

Long time postal dip veteran been out of the hobby for a while got a jones to play again (last played ftf at Origins couple of years ago). Just signed up for Classic_57. Saw on another post where someone said the moves took long (one a day). I giggled at that, as a veteran postal player. Not quite sure I understand this betting points thing, but I will play and see how it goes. Wish me luck and don't think of me as blood in the water. tfwood

Should Literature Be Useful? (YES. ABSOLUTELY. ...Right?)
http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/books/2013/11/should-literature-be-useful.html I disagree with the degree to which the author of this article praises sheer idleness and imagination in literature--in my mind, that is NOT what makes literature great, at least not on its own. The best authors, far from being simply imaginative, had arguments to make about the human condition OR very real arguments to make on social, psychological, and political policy. Thoughts?

NFL Pick 'em: Week 10--The Niners/Bears w/ Reinforcements & the Pack w/o Rodgers!
We start Week 10 tonight with the Redskins and Vikings...but I'll just assume we're all picking the REDSKINS (and now watch the Vikings play spoiler, lol.) Da Bears have Jay Cutler back and will be going up against Suh and the Lions for 1st place in the NFC North, and with Aaron Rodgers gone 4-6 weeks, this could be the Lions' big chance. The Niners get Manningham and Aldon Smith back vs. the Panthers, Bengals/Ravens, Broncos/Chargers, it's Week 10--PICK 'EM!
