Testing a premise.

I caught a repeat of a TV programme with Dara O'Briain the other day. The premise was that any word you choose in the dictionary could be guessed by someone who could ask you 20 questions. I'm not sure if this is true.

Star Trek Enterprise started to bore me

Another site newbie

Long time postal dip veteran been out of the hobby for a while got a jones to play again (last played ftf at Origins couple of years ago). Just signed up for Classic_57. Saw on another post where someone said the moves took long (one a day). I giggled at that, as a veteran postal player. Not quite sure I understand this betting points thing, but I will play and see how it goes. Wish me luck and don't think of me as blood in the water. tfwood

Should Literature Be Useful? (YES. ABSOLUTELY. ...Right?)

http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/books/2013/11/should-literature-be-useful.html I disagree with the degree to which the author of this article praises sheer idleness and imagination in literature--in my mind, that is NOT what makes literature great, at least not on its own. The best authors, far from being simply imaginative, had arguments to make about the human condition OR very real arguments to make on social, psychological, and political policy. Thoughts?

NFL Pick 'em: Week 10--The Niners/Bears w/ Reinforcements & the Pack w/o Rodgers!

We start Week 10 tonight with the Redskins and Vikings...but I'll just assume we're all picking the REDSKINS (and now watch the Vikings play spoiler, lol.) Da Bears have Jay Cutler back and will be going up against Suh and the Lions for 1st place in the NFC North, and with Aaron Rodgers gone 4-6 weeks, this could be the Lions' big chance. The Niners get Manningham and Aldon Smith back vs. the Panthers, Bengals/Ravens, Broncos/Chargers, it's Week 10--PICK 'EM!

First off, this is an awful week for me to be playing against AP and RG3 :( But here are my picks

BUF@PIT: They come so close every week. Its time the BILLS won again.
CIN@BAL: BENGALS win an easy one. Ravens won't be contenders until they learn to use Ray Rice. Flacco can't shoulder the team
DET@CHI: You know what? I'll take the LIONS too
PHI@GB: Honestly, it depends upon which Eagles team shows up. And Seneca Wallace is going to have some more reps under his belt now....but it'll be too much. EAGLES win it.
STL@IND: In my upset of the week the RAMS beat the Colts behind a solid defense. The Rams are just one of those teams I keep rooting for to win.
TEN@JAC: I'm not even going to merit this one with an answer
OAK@NYG: GIANTS win this one easily. McFadden is shaken up, and Pryor is going to be making mistakes all game.
SEA@ATL: The SEAHAWKS....though I don't say this with as much confidence as I usually would. They've been playing poorly the last two weeks.
SF@CAR: Its a tough one.....but 49ERS take it
DEB@SD: I think that the Charg....wait, no. Peyton will be too much for them. Despite the awful defense, the BRONCOS will win.
HOU@ARI: The CARDINALS show that they can be contenders in the NFC West
DAL@NO: I'm liking the COWBOYS to win this one. Their defense has been making a lot of plays (though I still dropped it this week in favor of the Giants D....I couldn't risk the matchup).

BUF@PIT - EJ Manuel is back, Buffalo wins.
CIN@BAL - Agree with Goldie's assessment, more Rice, less Flacco-seed .... see what I did there ....
DET@CHI - Lions if Cutler doesn't play, Bears if he does.
PHI@GB - The Eagles are high on Nick Foles but he can't do anything against the Pack...
STL@IND - The Colts sneak out with a win in the second half...
TEN@JAC - Titans but it'll be close.
OAK@NYG - I like the Giants but I'm really not confident in them.
SEA@ATL - Seahawks easily; Falcons have been overrated all year.
SF@CAR - Offensive shootout in which Cam and the Panthers pull off the upset..
DEN@SD - Broncos. Philip Rivers plays well against Peyton for some reason but Peyton seems to be, uhh, fucking spectacular as of late.
HOU@ARI - The Texans showed a lot of people a lot of things last week... mostly that Keenum can play. He's better than Carson Palmer and leads a fourth-quarter comeback.
DAL@NO - Saints will win this because Drew Brees is on my fantasy team. Then again, so is Colston.
MIA@TB - Mike James will continue to make a name for himself but the Dolphins win.

1. They are both great QBs, complaining about which one of them you have is just stupid.

2. Simple. Every player on the Rams is a professional football player. Professional football players have good days and bad. The Rams played well and the Colts didn't.
