A Greeting
It seems that we all compete against each other yet know so little about each other outside of WebDiplomacy. In this thread, we'll all state something interesting about ourselves.

For me, I collect coins.

Alright, since you guys already know I'm amazing, I will say something else...
I'm Canadian. Jklol, I am Canadian, but most of you guys knew that already.
I swim every summer and play conpetitive hockey in the winter.

I grew up Mennonite and my pacifist parents gave me a Diplomacy game for my 12th birthday.
I also collected coins for a little while when I was young, my favorite is my 1 franc piece from Katanga. Now my son collects coins He reads Neumismatic News and I never argue with him about coins - he's always right.

It's possible that the most interesting thing about me is that there is nothing interesting about me...

On a more interesting note, this sentence is false.

I was on the irish national diplomacy team which recently won the Dip Nations World Cup (not on webdip) so technically i'm a world cup champion (for team diplomacy)

Wait, is this subverting the thread about non-dip things??
achillies27 (100 D)

Ora, that is awesome.
I also collect coins...pennies to be exact. Well, hoard is more appropriate. For almost two years now I've been putting pennies in a giant plastic Coke bottle I bought at Epcot. The thing is about two feet tall, but only has about an inch and a half worth of pennies and the damn thing weighs ten pounds already.
@achillies - where in Canada?
@FlemGem, really? I live in the very middle of Mennonite country in Ontario. it is a strange place to be sometimes.

I once spent a full week as the acting Camp Director at an overnight camp with 300 kids at it. The real Director had to leave and I was second in command.

Now, how many webdip parents would trust me to look after their and 299 other children?

I play an online MMORPG called Travian - complete opposite of Diplomacy, because co-operation in the form of large alliances is necesary to succeed, and stabbing your friends in the back will get you a big ass-kicking!

I once arrived in a country only a few hours after a coup d'etat (golpe de estado). There was a tank in the front yard of the Presidential Palace, but with the gun pointed at the palace, not away from it. I attended Spanish classes at a building that was on the same block as the headquarters of the army, and we had to walk past a pillbox on the street, through a narrow passage they had left unblocked, while kids that looked 15 years old (they were probably 17-19) kept rifles trained on each of our heads. Looking back, I wonder whose good idea THAT was.

@Mujus....what country was that? I'm thinking of some in South America?

@maple - best of luck passing that. Shit's painful I hear.
Draugnar (0 DX)

@maple - My condolences on the kidney stone. I've had 4 in since 2005 (August 2005 at PDC in LA was my first). I know how painful. Now, what I don't understand is "passing it halfway". All mine ripped through (painfully) and had passed out the kidney and into the bladder by the time I got to the hospital. Out the bladder is no big deal as long as they aren't huge, but the damage they do to the kidneys. Oy! Little fuckers hurt like nothing I've ever experienced!
Maybe he had two and one went through?
Draugnar (0 DX)
13 Aug 12 UTC
I'm wondering if it had passed through the kidney and was just in the bladder. That's common and they can take a day to finally clear the bladder.

I hope the kidney stone passes quickly. I had a friend who just passed a kidney stone recently. He's in his mid-20s. Not sure if that is early for a kidney stone or not.

I run. Just finished my first ultramarathon three weeks ago. Looking to break three hours in my next marathon in October. Also dabble in barefoot running.
I'm majoring in Spanish at Fordham University (non-native speaker). The pinnacle of my life thus far was probably winning a chess tournament in 4th grade. Aside from Diplomacy and chess, I'm very much into the prohibitively expensive children's card game which is Yugioh. My friends and I get together at least once a week to play either Settlers of Catan or soccer.

Settlers or soccer, what a combination, i don't think i've ever heard it before...

Bobby Fischer on chess
"[Capablanca] wanted to change the rules already, back in the twenties, because he said chess was getting played out. He was right. Now chess is completely dead. It is all just memorization and prearrangement. It’s a terrible game now. Very uncreative." from a radio interview, 2006

Thoughts?

Would anyone on the site be interested in playing a live game of world diplomacy? Ive never been in a live version of the variant but I think it would be very exciting and much better than an average live game, I understand it could probably take a lot longer to play than usual live games to but just want to see if members of the site are up for playing one?
