Wait, does the game CTD?

Nah, I'm going to torrent it, I don't want it anyway. It's like Steam. It has its good parts but I hate that if you pay for a game you always have to be online so they can advertise. I paid for the damned thing, leave me alone.

CTD is crash to desktop. The screen goes black, there will be an error message (generally) and then you're back to the desktop.

No CTD. The Launcher loads, when I hit PLAY, nothing happens. I can still use the computer for anything else. I'd rather it crash....it just does nothing.

As for advertsiing...uhhh...what advertising? I load a game and play it. If you are suckied into reading advertising, that is your problem. But it is intended to prevent stealing the game....like I have done with multiple NON-online games via the wonders of torrents....

And I was joking...the point is you don't HAVE to torrent it. You can download the whole thing from Blizzard...you just can't play it unless you have an account...which you access on-line to play....which protects Blizzard's assetts. it's called "Capitalism"....Blizzard makes *great* products that people want, and they are intelligent enough to protect them. I have no problem with it...and they likewise have no problem with you....the 0.0001%...not buying the game because of weird hang-ups....because they are rolling in cash.

Keep in mind the purpose of blizzard is not to make games, not make you happy, etc....their sole purpose is to make money. HOW they make money is....etc...

The problem I have with always online is that:
A) what if my internet fucks up
B) I'm on holidays but still want to play
C) hackers getting account information (as happened just a few weeks earlier), this is especially worse with the real money auction houses

As for advertising, do you have Steam? They will not let you play a game if you don't go online at least once every couple of weeks. That is essentially theft, they are not allowing me to play a game I have paid for.

Works fine for me. It was fun when I was procrastinating my thesis, but now I have better things to do.

Do you get an error message or just completely black? Updated drivers?

Are you playing it with the CD in? It won't play for me without it in. Btw if anyone is a fan of the Civilization sries, the new expansion for Civ V is out today.

You dont really need use the real money auction house, its for players who MUST have the best items, you can play without the best 1% gear and if you cant, go hunt for it. There is no advertising. Blizzard makes no money if they dont make games most people will enjoy. I am enjoying it. Sorry its not working for you!

@Abge -- my video driver may be out dated. I get *nothing* The launcher loads, I can click links....but when I hit the "play" button, the launcher disappears, the "game" appears in my list of active programs...and then disappears...and the game never starts. I can load and run other programs. EVERYTHING else is fine...the game just never starts. There is a proces running for it, but not a program

I'm pissed. Was trying to convince my wife to let me but her copy so we could grind together.....grrrr.....this won't help.. <sigh....> I guess we will have to back to kinky sex to pass the nights away......

Average -- don't want your wanna-be-Diablo game. My wife bought me the REAL game, duhhhh....

Try updating the drivers. Also, from the Battlenet support page:

"If you are suffering blackscreens in Diablo III, bring up the Diablo III login screen, select OPTIONS then VIDEO, and do the following:

Enable Vertical Sync
Move the Max Foreground FPS slider down to 30
Select Accept
Exit out of the Game and right-click the Diablo III Launcher icon
Select Properties
Select the Compatibility tab
Check Disable Desktop Composition
Select Ok"

Sorry to hear that, Krellin. I'm fully addicted. The game is hands down better than D2 in my opinion.

Anybody through inferno yet?
My wife and I are on Act II on Inferno. We've been taking a break to see family and watch the NBA finals.
The game is better than D2. The difficulty between modes is now more balanced with the last patch (well, maybe act 2 became a little easier than it had to be).
You do not have to use Real Money Auction House, although it is funny for me to sell stuff on there. I've made 30 bucks selling my second hand stuff. :)
