Seriously, let's start getting in the habit of password protecting live games.
I am fucking sick to death of playing with morons the likes of whom make George W. Bush seem a far-sighted strategical thinker. Even when we do things like 101 point gunboats, which you would think would screen out idiot assholes at least moderately effectively, dumbasses get through.

Tricky* Rules Situation
I'm pretty new to Diplomacy, and I'm still learning the rules to some extent. I need a hand with a situation.
*It seems tricky to me, but it's probably very simple.

Problem with password games.
The thing about this is that most of us who play for fun (but not in the idiotic sense of the word) are mostly out of password games for one specific reason: "big" players or "known" players don't know us. As of now, I've tried to be friendly and get to talk to at least one of the players of each game after the game is over, to find no response.

Why is it so hard to find your way through webDiplomacy to password games?

Understanding problem
I need some help please. I attacked an army that had a hold command. This ought to be repealed by the attack, right? Unfortunately this is not so and I have lost my position. how can that be?
I would appreciate explanations.
I am not sure whether it makes sense to the game name is mentioned, because it is a "No in-game messaging, anonymous players' game is.
Can someone help me? Thank you!

The fearmongering thread
Post your factually accurate but massively misleading fearmongering here

(....In several billion years)

Did you know that *government money* has been used to map 98% of the chimpanzee genome? Why? What will the government do with data?

(Humans share 98% of our genetic code with chimps, so the Human Genome Project was also the Chimpanzee Genome Project, to a large degree)
Bezborodov (775 D)
24 Nov 10 UTC
Whoa! 98%? 2% can amount for a hell of a lot of difference, then!
stratagos (3269 D(S))
24 Nov 10 UTC
That's actually one of those "*everyone* knows it, but it may or may not be true" things, I think the actual percentage of similarity has dropped as they did actual mapping of the Chimp genome

??? What's so misleading about that one, Tolstoy?
Tolstoy (1962 D)
29 Nov 10 UTC
The fact that the 'bomber' was actively recruited, paid, trained, and encouraged by the FBI; there was never any risk to anyone; and if our government's Secret Police hadn't hatched the plot themselves, it never would've happened at all.

Ah! Gotcha. Context is everything :-) I didn't know about this story and was on my phone about to go to bed, so didn't exactly have time to go googling it.
Draugnar (0 DX)

@Tolstoy - you need to correct your facts. He was not "actively recruited, paid, trained, and encouraged by the FBI". In fact the following story from Reuters clearly shows the FBI had interecepted and infiltrated the suspects life so they could control what he tried and catch him in the act.

The 19-year-old man accused of trying to detonate a car bomb at a ceremony to light a Christmas tree in Oregon is scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Undercover FBI agents stated that Mohamed Osman Mohamud, a Somali-American, was targeted in a six-month sting operation. Mohamud reportedly thought he was in possession of a bomb. which he had installed in a van near the Pioneer Courthouse Square in Portland.

In reality, Mohamud’s alleged cohorts from whom he purchased the 'bomb' were undercover agents and the device was not explosive. He was arrested by the FBI when he dialed a phone number he thought would detonate the device.

U.S. Attorney Dwight Holton told ABC News, "The FBI took great caution to insure that the arrest was planned in a way to insure public safety."

The FBI told ABC that Mohamud was "anxious to go operational and learn about explosives," and "allegedly considered a Mumbai style shooting rampage."

Mohamud will face life in prison if convicted.

But I do agree the line you wrote is a great fearmonger.

Almost every fear inducing headline is exaggerated. Understatement and subtletly in the media are rarer than unicorns. Sicarius himself personally sent me this gem:

"One in five plants 'threatened'"

http://english.aljazeera.net/news/europe/2010/09/201092911718309403.html

I'll leave it as an exercise to you guys to figure out why I call it fear mongering, despite it still being a serious issue.

Dihydrogen Monoxide (also known as hydric acid or Hydronium Hydroxide, or DHMO for short) is dangerous. Its basis is the highly reactive hydroxyl radical, a species shown to mutate DNA, denature proteins, disrupt cell membranes, and chemically alter critical neurotransmitters. The atomic components of DHMO are found in a number of caustic, explosive and poisonous compounds such as Sulfuric Acid, Nitroglycerine and Ethyl Alcohol.

It:
Death due to accidental inhalation of DHMO, even in small quantities.
Prolonged exposure to solid DHMO causes severe tissue damage.
Excessive ingestion produces a number of unpleasant though not typically life-threatening side-effects.
DHMO is a major component of acid rain.
Gaseous DHMO can cause severe burns.
Contributes to soil erosion.
Leads to corrosion and oxidation of many metals.
Contamination of electrical systems often causes short-circuits.
Exposure decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes.
Found in biopsies of pre-cancerous tumors and lesions.

Ban this dangerous substance by starting a petition in your neighborhood TODAY

I was going to put that one up.
But don't forget,

DHMO also is the most prevalent greenhouse gas in the atmosphere, causing a larger effect than carbon dioxide or methane.

The truly scary thing is how often you can encounter the chemical DHMO in daily life.
It is found in very large concentrations in the water you drink.
It is in the air you breathe, largely due to it being a major component in the exhaust of cars and industry.
Its sprayed on the food you eat, being one of the major components in pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and fungicides. And it cannot be removed by washing in water.

Please think of the children and ban DHMO today.
