Seriously, let's start getting in the habit of password protecting live games.
I am fucking sick to death of playing with morons the likes of whom make George W. Bush seem a far-sighted strategical thinker. Even when we do things like 101 point gunboats, which you would think would screen out idiot assholes at least moderately effectively, dumbasses get through.

how do you leave a game
i see various games that have "left" next to a player's name. how do i leave a game? i don't see a button anywhere

Players leave the game if they don't enter orders for two turns, but this is HIGHLY FROWNED UPON by everyone who plays diplomacy, so please don't do it.

Better to discuss the reason you wish to leave the game with those playing, they may agree to cancel it on your behalf.

However if you just want to leave because you are losing, then you are out of luck. Please for the sake of the game, play it out to the end, or risk upsetting the balance of the game.

I'd hope you'd want others to do the same for you if you were in the opposite position.

To answer your question, you "Leave" by not submitting orders or NMR (no moves received) for 2 consecutive turns. I think you also have to not even look at the game for 2 consecutive turns. Your county will enter Civil Disorder (CD) and will basically hold/disband for the rest of the game.

That said it really sucks when someone does this and is discouraged STRONGLY. In live games it is somewhat understandable but you should allot your time accordingly. For longer games have some respect for the other people in the game and play it out.

sooo no malicious intent, the reason i'm asking is my friends and i set up a private game but we previously discussed which countries we want to play, and needless to say the random assignment wasn't what we wanted, so i'm trying to find a way that people can leave the game and re-enter as a different country.

If you're only playing 1 game, you could just switch accounts, too.

Remember playing with friends is fine, but if you're playing with an outsider, it's polite to let them know you know each other irl and to not let that effect your playing.

give the mods some time to respond. they are quite busy. in the mean time, you should consider pausing the game and suspending any diplomatic discussions until the powers are reshuffled.

welcome to the site. as abge pointed out, it's fine to play with friends provided that you adhere by the strict no metagaming rules

Yeah, the odds are against them. If they want to play specific powers they would probably have to start the game literally thousands of times before all seven match up.

I can rearrange the countries as indicated in the email, but there is a catch. Messages between countries stay with the country and do not follow the players. So if any messages have been sent between players that someone might not want the new player for that country to see, then it would be better to cancel and setup the game again, but with no messaging. I can then remove the no messaging flag after the country allocation is done.

Problem with password games.
The thing about this is that most of us who play for fun (but not in the idiotic sense of the word) are mostly out of password games for one specific reason: "big" players or "known" players don't know us. As of now, I've tried to be friendly and get to talk to at least one of the players of each game after the game is over, to find no response.

Why is it so hard to find your way through webDiplomacy to password games?

Understanding problem
I need some help please. I attacked an army that had a hold command. This ought to be repealed by the attack, right? Unfortunately this is not so and I have lost my position. how can that be?
I would appreciate explanations.
I am not sure whether it makes sense to the game name is mentioned, because it is a "No in-game messaging, anonymous players' game is.

Is there any way to save a game search?
Like if I always search for the same type of game (joinable, pre game, no press for example) do i have to go through all the tick boxes every time? Or can i use some php in the url to get the results i'm looking for?
