@Bob Genghiskhan:
Well, LA didn't have a football team, and I saw Steve Young and Jerry Rice light it iup one night, my dad's on the phone talking on and on about his Oakland Raiders, and then my AUNT, who won't stop talking even about ten or twenty "Uh huh...uh HUH..Well--uh huhhhhh....." sessions, won't stop talking, asks me if I like a team--so I picked the team that was exciting and fun to watch that night. Just lucky it wasn't the Bills, I guess... ;) (Though the Niners NOW aren't much better...)
I WAS a Los Angeles Dodgers fan--for about a month, i was really a PIAZZA fan, Mike Piazza, catching for my little league team (and being the tiniest kid on the team) I idolized Piazza, so when they traded him I was so mad...so then I was a Marlins fan for a week...and finally a Mets fan, and he stayed there, I read up on the Mets and how they were always either losers or the underdog miracle team and that they were the little guys next to the Braves and Yankees...
And being a VERY little guy myself, the love affair stuck, and by the time Piazza left eight years later I was already a hard-core fan and in love witht eh squad (I still wish he could've signed back on for a lst year with the Mets, should've retired a Met.)
And the Ducks are near LA, and I liked the Kariya/Selanne pairing, Selanne was and is my favorite...and they TOO were the udnerdogs against the Red Wings in the playoffs, so I was hooked there as well.
So that's how I got my teams--and as the Niners at the time I started rooting for them were after their Super Bowl years and trying like crazy to fight off Aikman and the Cowboys and Favre and the Packers (oh, all those many, many years ago when he was a PACKER, and his hair WASN'T grey!) and so were underdogs sometimes, at least against Favre, the Mets were underdogs, the Ducks were...even this year, the USA soccer team, I'd never even watched soccer before but was fun to watch thgem and identiofied with them as the underdog...
I guess I like underdogs and scrappy, fighting teams...and maybe if I instead chose to love the Yankees, Steelers, and Canadiens I'd be a lot happier come the end of the season...EVERY season! ;)
@Rusty: But Hiller's a great goalie...and the Ducks have ALWAYS had a ton of shots on goal, from Hebert to Giguere to now, so that's no new thing, and the goalies have held up thus far...
We have a great couple offensive lines and tools, Getzlaf, Perry, Selanne, Bobby Ryan, some others...
The Leafs BETTER have a bright future, they have our beloved Giggy...! :/
Hope you're wrong about the Ducks, Rusty! ;)
