Mods please investigate
I reported the following game http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=33245#gamePanel about two weeks ago and there has been no response. Apologies if this is. In the wrong place but if someone could point me in the right direction I would be most grateful.

Cheers

Mod reports.
In a current game i am being threatened with having a mod report written on me because i refuse to draw with a single sc country that has nothing to do with a stalemate line.

can i have a mod report for this.......

Sorry, but I'm going to side with Cent on this one. What he was trying to accomplish, which I believe was to lessen the number of players to be included in the draw, IS perfectly legal. Nowhere does it say that he can't do that, even if there is some "unwritten rule" out there that says he can't. To me, the established and written rules are what should count not the "unwritten rules" (which are really just preferences until such unwritten rules are written down somewhere).

AB and drano,

Cent was only making simple demands, not just mindlessly bitching and moaning. He would not draw until England was out which I repeat is LEGAL. In fact, whoever had the ability to comply could have ended it much quicker than it actually did and there's nothing wrong with that. You were just being equally as stubborn as he was, trying to make your own demands clear. But as we all know you also tried intimidating him by saying that you would write up mod reports against him, which I have to say is a bit underhanded and childish. You say that he was the one crying like a baby when in fact by threatening him like this you are actually the ones crying like babies. " Wah wah, he doesn't want to do what we tell him. Let's go tell mommy and daddy. Wah wah." *kick* *scream*

Miyazaki,

It would have been unfair and unsportsmanlike if he was breaking the rules. He wasn't here.

StephenC, I fully appreciate that. I didn't start this thread and I did not make any accusations towards centurion. My comments were generalised.

I stand by what I said about players in a completely neutral stalemated situation accepting that fact and that no one should demand to stay online for hours until someone is forced to leave. However, I did not accuse centurion of doing that and I have already said that I completely understand his viewpoint on the situation he has described.

I also stand by my comment about the excessive swearing used in these forums, which is not only unnecessary but unwelcoming to some players.

Steven-

Just to clarify, AB and I did NOT make any demands like you claim we did. We were simply stating that since the game was stalemated, it should end. Period. He was the only one making a demand. His demand was that even though the game was stalemated, he would not end the game until England was eliminated. So, he made a demand, we did not. We were simply saying that all tactical possibilities for winning the game were over so it should end.

As for the mod reports, I have already apologized for my misinterpretation of what they are. I thought that they would simply be a message to the mods that someone wouldn't end the game and that you could simply tell them that and they would fix it. If I misinterpreted that, I already said I was sorry and I apologize. To be honest, when I emailed the mods, I thought that WAS a mod report. If there's another way to do it, I still don't know what it is or how to do it.

And Steven, a question. While you maintain that what he asked for was legal (and you're right there's nothing in the rules against it), was it not kind of underhanded to say that he'd stay online for 6 hours and wait it out until we killed England (even if it was a bluff). If you say that that would NOT be underhanded, then what if I had said that I will not draw until Turkey gives me back Sevastopol, Budapest, Vienna, and Rumania and would sit online for 12 hours until he did and not draw until that point. Is that not silly to do? While the magnitude of the demands is different (killing someone vs giving back SCs), it follows the same logic that it is perfectly within my rights to do that (i.e. not illegal per the rules) and noone should get angry if I sit there all day to do that.

Could I please have your opinion on that?

God this thread just made me fucking lol and made my day.

also im going with +1 Cent. wanting less people in a draw is something every player should desire.
StevenC. (1047 D(B))

drano,

It is perfectly within your rights to make such a demand. However, in the example you provided, the demand is more silly than anything, especially because he is demanding sc's when he would get basically the same number of points from a draw anyway.
drano019 (1003 D)
18 Aug 10 UTC
Steven - So if this were a game with you in it, and I made those demands and it dragged on for hours because of it, you'd be perfectly ok with it? I'm not denying that it's within the "rights" based on the written rules, but rather that making any sort of demands when the game is stalemated and noone can win is silly. Just end the game and move on. Perhaps it's just a difference in philosophy, but to me, a draw is a draw. Sure, there's arbitrary points and not-so-arbitrary GR, but making demands just to get a little extra boost? Not worth it in my book. And, as I stated earlier, England played a role in getting the stalemate set up, so he deserved a piece of the pie in my mind.

-Russia was a mammering sheep-biting malt-worm for not killing off an England that wasn't essential to /holding/ the stalemate line when he was able.
-Turkey was a wimpled milk-livered pignut for making such a big deal over a couple D's.
-You both had rational and understandable reasons for your demands, but neither of you went about doing it in a mature, sportsmanlike way.
-You both need to learn some better insults.

Dear Mr. (or Mrs.) O Daly:

I'm stealing "mammering sheep-biting malt-worm" for use in my Savage Worlds space-cowboy game. That's pretty darn good. Regards.
On a side note, anyone know where I can find a list of the mods?

Calling Female Diplomats
Greetings. I recently got into a discussion with a friend about why Diplomacy (and many other strategy games, for that matter) are primarily played by men. I have yet to meet another female who actively plays this game other than myself, and would like to hear your thoughts on the subject. Men are welcome to post as well.

How about a nice game of chess?

The rules:
Post your move in standard chess notation. You must wait at least three moves before posting again(ie: if you move as white, someone else has to move as white before you can move again). Illegal moves don't count; stupid ones do
