Is WTA really a good choice for a map so large with so many players?

I think PPSC works better, because I feel as though it is hard to force a draw. Just my two cents though.

I joined, if only to beat the living tar out of my team captain. ;)

Problem with PPSC on a big multi-player map like this is some players might be happy taking out a few neighbors and not care that someone else is winning on the other half of the world. I guess that is the same problem as PPSC on the standard map, but moreso.

With WTA you HAVE to care.

So far, I have made one spectacularly bad move in a Gunboat, am ticking along slowly in a small pot game and have drawn a bummer of a country for the BIggest Game The World Has Ever Seen (Master of the Universe II - WTA).

I would say the following:

a) Gunboat is stupid on this map. Too many opportunities for someone somewhere to get lucky and race away while you are stuck butting heads with a moron of a neighbour. These games are to be won on a regional alliance basis, not local wars;

b) If you like diplomacy (the talking) these games offer an enormous expansion on the amount of press required. If you cannot handle that, you should defer; if you can, make sure the other players are talkative;

c) there is an big learning curve with regard to the best openings/strategies for these countries; and

d) WTA is the only way to play these I am convinced. Otherwise it just becomes a cake sharing exercise that lasts for ages.

All in all, hard work if done properly.

Damn, couldn't resist. I've joined another. I want to get some experience with different countries.

Oh dear, I got that secret message wrong - and nothing personal, just frustration. Well, the thing to do is look at logs for gunboat: you can see whether someone has been supporting you or not. I made a truly awful move earlier and have no-one else to blame but myself. Nevertheless, look at India: unstoppable even this early in the game I fear.

Idealist: I am not keen on the PPSC variety.

I tend to play gunboat by pure tactics.
Do whatever works best for me in each turn.
But World wide gunboat is just bullshit cause there are some many people around and so many possibilities that it comes down to pure luck.

I noticed your truly awful move flashman but as you know even if you got it right it wouldn't work.

Sorry Z, I joined another 1 earlier in the thread. I would have joined yours, it's for more points. These games I'm guessing are going to take 2 months for a 1 day phase.

Also how the hell is the South Pole an SC. How the hell is any of the Antarctica stuff an SC?

Well okay maybe like oil and resources as yet undiscovered there. I get that. But a whole country based out of Antarctica? Madness lol.

You wait until you see the colours of the fonts: some are almost unreadable... the Near East is the Worst, closely followed by the Yellow part of Canada.

Hey, I'm in hellalt's and flashman's game, too! I'm the South Africa dying quickly... : ( At least I feel like I've learned some important stuff already about the world map, like bounce the crap out of people to keep them out of range.

I really have made a faux pas haven't I? We're really not supposed to discuss these games. I apologise.

So how many new maps are there now? I would have thought this would have been advertised ir did i miss something?

At the moment, webDip only has the world map enabled. I would suggest it hasn't been announced because it still has a couple of bugs, and is being tested.

Not a fan of this game at all- the map has WAY too many flaws in it, and disadvantages... surely someone would definitely look at fixing this????!!!???

The only way to do that is to play test. I am in four games right now, one with a pretty high ranking group. We should be able to give ideas and suggestions after they finish. I am fairly sure we will agree on a few things.
