How do people feel about discussing tactics?
Razz (144 D)

Do you discuss your tactics after a game? (or during a game?) or do you feel that gives away too much about you?

As an example, in a game last night (http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=11224) I pulled off a beautiful stab of Turkey with some complicity from Italy and Russia. Turkey asked for my assistance against Russia, and I (falsely) agreed. He asked for assistance into Rumania, which i declined, pleading attack by italy, then arranged the bounce in Trieste in fall 1901 to preserve the illusion that Italy was an enemy. With turkey fully convinced i was his ally, this set up taking both rumania and bulgaria the following year and Turkey looked liked a dead man walking. (Athough he played brilliantly and with a lot of luck and being able to turn italy, he made a great comeback).

Do you discuss things like this afterward, or do you think it gives future opponents an edge?

They are called End Of Game statements and are encouraged.

It depends on what you enjoy about playing Diplomacy, doesn't it? If you like EOGs and discussing things like that then why not? Also, if you do discuss the game it may make you and your opponents better players and surely that is what we want I would think. If you always win and your opponents never improve then Diplomacy would lose its appeal very quickly. If you only have one way of playing then you'll be found out by those you repeatedly play, anyway, and it wouldn't matter regarding players you haven't played before.

Hey Razz, I would actually enjoy discuusing the game afterwards. So I guess this may be interesting: Turkey didn't do a single attempt to turn me on his side, so it was totally my idea. I was worried about you growing very powerful and cooperating with Germany, so I thought best for me was to stab you.
I often discuss tactics during the game, especially when within an alliance and with my enemy's enemies.

On EoGS: unless I survived to the end, I really really wouldn't want to talk about my defeat. The thought of picking over my own cold bones isn't at all appealing.

If I'm killed out of a game then I'd really prefer it for that game (and especially the messages generated by it) to disappear from my active games lists. Sometimes it's real-time months between being killed out and the game ending. If there's lots of public press and pause requests etc., it can be a real drag.

Can an unsupported navy unit convoy when it has been atatcked by another unit?
http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=11227

Check out the English Channel move... I would not have thought this was allowable as the naval units 'activity' for the round is defending the ENG, rather than defending AND convoying. Can a moderator cvheck this out please?

RE: Late-game betrayal
I wanted the opinion of more experienced players about my betraying Germany in this game http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=9966, was I wrong to betray him for the win or was it his fault for leaving himself exposed to an attack from me?

Hello!
We paused the game for memorial day weekend, and now have two players who won't unpause. One is in possession of no supply centers, the other is just incommunicado.

How (exactly) does the '/draw' voting work?
Do draw votes expire? (I assume not)
When exactly are they processed with respect to ending the game? (The message appears immediately, but does that mean that the last vote to draw ends the game immediately? Or at end of the next turn? end of the next build phase?)

guide to special cases
Is there a nice guide to special cases and examples of this and that country configuration and set of orders somewhere? I read the manual at diplom.org and it didn't resolve it.

My question is if A1 supports A2 into B, but B attacks A1 and A2 is also dislodged, does A2 go into B?

Support question
Probably a real n00b question, but it has been years since I played Dip regularly. Can one country support-hold another country that is itself executing a support action, or does support-hold only apply to a country that is truly holding?
