Basically, I would assign approx. 100-250 games (or rather IDs) to each person who agreed to do this, depending on how many agree to do it, and get them each to run through the maps of those games, to check that they are ok, and to look at the game name to see if they are Variants.

I will start with game 3200, and get to the end of the database, and then look to do games before 3200. This is because it was at the start of game 3200 (3187, to be exact) that the new convoy/ self dislodgement rules were introduced.

Yes, I think doing this wll be very helpful for other statistics as well. But it does seem rather tedious.

This is a very subjective enterprise - sometimes there may be a situation where you did such a good job with your diplomacy that another country felt like they were in a hopeless position and just abandoned the game.

This would negatively affect those people. I'm not sure that's a very common thing to have happen, but I have definitely seen people go into CD when they believe they have no hope in the game.

What about the games where someone takes over a CD country?

Jacob, only Variants and cancelled would be effective for Ghost rating. CD is just for other statistics.

CD takeovers will probably be (2) some damage.

Actually, plenty of volunteers get paid. My work takes "volunteers" to do various community service projects (we believe in giving back) and yet we get paid for the hours we are doing those events just as if we were in the office plus we normally get fed as well.

My definition doesn't involve payment.

To reduce the amount that needs doing:

I shall start by asking everyone who is on the forum to identify their Variant games, before we start, and then get a list of game names added too, because then I can run a filter for games with "no press" "public press" "Wilson" "gunboat" etc.

Date finished being 1901-2 will then be the next filter, so we don't need to worry about looking for cancels.

That way we only need to look for CD and NMR affected games. I shall have a look through some this week to start with, and send you all links to what I judge to be "ruined" and what is just "damaged" by CD/NMR
