It's been a while since my high school Latin class but even I can do better than that automated translation:
"Vini, vidi, volo ire ad meum domum."

Your current phrase, unsurprisingly, is the usual nonsense that derives from a word-for-word online translator:
"I came, I saw, I am, I want/fly, the home."
Ironically, "volo" is the singular first-person present indicative for the verb "velle" meaning "to want" and for the verb "volare" meaning "to fly", which in this age may not be wholly inappropriate. Your cases are totally wrong however. If someone else wants to outclass my translation, feel free.
aum (602 D)

Oh, and it should be "Veni, vini,..."

ok. i don't know a pencil's lead about latin.

"veni, vidi, ad meum domum ire volo" Is the translation with standard latin word order, of "I came, I saw, I want to go to my home (i.e. I want to go home)
CountArach (587 D)
08 Mar 09 UTC
The only problem with TheGhostmaker's translation is that domum may just be put in the locative case and as such the word "ad" is not needed.
CountArach (587 D)
08 Mar 09 UTC
Hmmm actually I'm not really sure if you may put meum in the locative case, even if it agrees with domum...
aum (602 D)

@TheGhostmaker
Silly me, thinking I can use English word order. Fortunately, inflection overcomes word order but you're absolutely right as to the convention.

@CountArach
The point is arguable. I personally prefer the preposition so that the accusative case is clearly tied to the destination in this case. The locative case is so rarely used that I hardly even remembered it. My rule of thumb was that the locative was used in the sense of "in" with respect to a location, compared to the sense of "to". Going "to" a location would require "ad". Doing something "in" a city, country, etc. would use the locative.

Is anyone else reminded of Monty Python's Life of Brian?

CENTURION: What's this, then? 'Romanes Eunt Domus'? 'People called Romanes they go the house'?
BRIAN: It-- it says, 'Romans, go home'.
CENTURION: No, it doesn't. …
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)

Since domum actually has a locative, it would probably be neater to use it:

"veni, vidi, domi ire volo" meum is probably redundant given that it would always be understood.
RiffArt (1299 D)
08 Mar 09 UTC
I believe the locative is used to mean "at home" and "to home" should be accusative WITHOUT the preposition.

Ghostmaker, I believe however that you are correct that meum is redundant.

The correct translation is (I'm pretty sure):

veni, vidi, domum ire volo

Alternatively we could translate "I came, I saw, I want to return":

veni, vidi, revenire volo

Which, I think, with the repeating v's throughout, the two nice r's in the middle, and the repetition of "veni" is a bit more poetic, although the scansion isn't particularly nice.

Of course, yes.
Centurian (3257 D)

Haha, for a minutre I thought Toby was talking about me.

Monty Python is great. Spelling Centurion with an "o" is less great. You guys debate over grammar but the a in my name tortures me. Latin can stay a dead language.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
08 Mar 09 UTC
There is no "Centurion", so I am sure that you could get it corrected.

Seeing as people here seem to know their Latin reasonably well...if I were to talk about a Legion (in the military sense) is 'Legio' the correct word? I am working on a project, and in it there are military formations of the designations 'Outer Legions' 'Inner Legions' and 'Auxiliary Legions'. My current Latin expressions for these are 'Legiones Inferior', 'Legiones Superior' and 'Legiones Auxilia' but I'm painfully aware those could be (and probably are) horribly incorrect. I have no trust in online translators.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
08 Mar 09 UTC
Legio is the right word for it.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
08 Mar 09 UTC
I don't know about the specific types of legions, though.
Hereward77 (930 D)
08 Mar 09 UTC
Fair enough. These aren't historical variants, they're my own inventions. I was wondering what the words for 'Inner', 'Outer' and 'Auxiliary' were and how they would fit as adjectives to 'Legio'. Thanks for the confirmation of Legio though.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
08 Mar 09 UTC
Legiones Auxilia should probably be just "Auxilia"
and, for number and case agreements' sakes:
Legiones Inferiores
Legiones Superiores
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
08 Mar 09 UTC
Note: Auxilia means "auxiliaries". If you want to say literally "Auxiliary legions", use "legiones auxiliares"
Hereward77 (930 D)
08 Mar 09 UTC
Thank you! It's much appreciated.
Centurian (3257 D)

How would I correct it? Its certainly not bad enough to warrant a new account.

Hi: I'm still fuzzy on what the other requests are for the game admins?

Also, once we figure this out, can we post it on the FAQ? I'm sure I'm not the only one.
