If you have any specific "emoticons", as they are called, that need translating, the link from Spell is a good start to deciphering them.

As a general rule, like battle said, just tilt your head to the left to see a picture. I'll list a few of the more common ones:

:D big smile, with mouth open

Also, a "=" can be used to substitute a ":" for eyes. like this =D

There are also some common abbreviations:

lol - laugh out loud
lmao - laughing my ass off
roflmao - rolling on floor laughing my ass off
OMG - oh my god
wtf - what the fuck
