"by convoy", "by land"?
Is there a reason moving an army to an adjacent coastal territory I get the option to go "by convoy" or "by land"? Is there a good reason one would convoy a unit between adjacent territories?

AFK Player
We just started a game (League of Nations) and it is Autumn 1901. While I realize that Austria might have accidentally missed his turn, he has also done no correspondence at all, leaving me to wonder if he's really going to play at all.

Phpdiplomacy game stats - best country to play
I ran a quick script out of curiosity to see which countries win the most on phpdiplomacy. Just got the "finished games" pages and parsed the HTML. Turkey turns out to be the best country! Full stats below the fold.

Another Thread about PPSC vs WTA
The more I play on this site the more I wish I could get more WTA games going. I just really don't feel like PPSC games provide the Dip experience that is intended by the game.

They are still good practice, but WTA games are where its at in my opinion. Sure wish it was easier to get people to join them...

I am an Aussie and I would play but I too busy, but another time I would love to play an Aussie game. The advantage that I can see is that you would all be in the same timezone.
Well pretty much the same time zone. I just wanted to get Aussies together, to see if we play any differently and for novelty sake

A game exclusively for Australians, eh? Yeap nothing wrong with keeping people out based on nationality. Yeah, that's perfectly fine. I bet you just swiped a few pages out of Mein Kampf for that idea. You guys have some fascist fun. :P

An Australian is a race. Just like American.

I am a Tasmanian, I would like an interstate type Diplomacy, see if the people who actually wrote the constitution can match if with mainland players.

Leon- grow a brain- its more than likely so it can be a speed game i would imagine.

Australian is NOT a race.
Caucasian, Asian, Negro, etc are all races, Australian is like an American, an ETHNIC or Cultural group- look up Race in the dictionary...
Also as for Tasmanians...well..(insert 2 headed Tassie joke here).
lol...
how many players from Oz are there atm?

Alright I've created a game for Australians to join and play each other:

http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=7659

Please don't upset the apple cart and join despite not being from Australia. I enjoy playing anyone, but I just want to try this out for novelty sake.
Gobbledydook (1389 D(B))

I'm an Australian citizen so I can join.
And I have to dispute those saying Australian is a race or ethnicity. It is a nationality.

It can't be an ethnicity when it is made up of so many ethnicities:

Australian (37.1%)
English (31.6%)
Irish (9.1%)
Scottish (7.7%)
Italian (4.3%)
German (4.1%)
Chinese (3.4%)
Greek (1.8%)
Dutch (1.6%)
Indian (1.2%)
Lebanese (1.0%)
Poles (0.8%)
Vietnamese (0.8%)

lol- so what are those that are Australian?
Aboriginal? they are the true Australian- and sadly President Pericles, you neglected them in your count- obviously not an Aussie
Daniel-san (0 DX)
30 Dec 08 UTC
@ Philcore, indeed mate;)
That list was based on self-reporting.

I didn't neglect indiginous Australians as I didn't create those numbers, take it up with the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

I assume "Australian" would be made up mostly of Anglo-Celtic Australians who no longer identify with their ancestral origins, but I cannot be sure as I did not perform the survey.

I am Australian, and I don't know how you can conclude that I am not. You seem to just want to be a contrarian.
kestasjk (95 DMod(P))
30 Dec 08 UTC
I'm an immigrant but I have Australian citizenship, pay taxes & vote, so I'd consider myself eligible for this game ;-)

I think being a contributing part of society and being ready to defend the country is just as important as where your ancestors are from, if it was any other way we'd all be african anyway
Hear hear Kestasjk. Part of Australia's greatness is its ability to contain cultural diversity AND a sense of shared civic pride. Let's leave the discussion on that thought

Turning an enemy into an ally.
What are some successful approaches you have used? Obviously, these are very situation-dependent. Are there any principles that seem to be generally true in all or at least most situations?

several players, including myself, have had problems with order resolution in this game. We've started a vote to pause. is there anything we can do?
there's no point in playing if orders don't go through right.
