Pledge of the Fallen
To make the game more enjoyable for those who have overplayed me
I make the pledge that
0. I do everything in my power to come back to the game, but I do not hold up the game in a meaningless situation.
1. Whenever I cannot retreat anywhere, I dislodge as soon as I can.
2. Whenever I am out of a game and I have to disband, I do as soon as I can.
3. I never go to Civil Disorder, unless RL issues force me to, I rather declare I am out, make sensible moves, and make them as fast as I can.

Supporting a convoyed army
I was not able to understand how should I give support to a convoyed unit (see game Dog II).
I tried to convoy an army from Wales through English Channel into Belgium with support from a fleet in North Sea, but attack failed with this message in GameMaster: "Autumn 1903, Diplomacy: Your fleet at North Sea's move support wasn't accepted by the unit which support was being given to".
I am sure I filled the order in the only acceptable manner, no other way of stating orders was available.
So what is the matter? This kind of attack is not possible? This would be a great limitation for England.

Battle of the Champions?
Now we have an official ranking system, is there any chance of the top 7 players getting together and playing each other in an open game which everyone can watch?

Bug on slatemate
Dear Kestas
I submit you a bug I noticed in game Brobdingnag.
I moved from Galicia to Silesia with support from Prussia and Bohemia.
Ukraine is entering in Warsaw (both Warsaw and Moscow were empty) but is has been stopped by a slatemate (!!!).
In Livonia there was a fleet going into Baltic, so the bug is: with who my army at Ukraine had a slatemate?

I will be back..!
As some of you may remember, I used to play a lot of games here. Over the summer, i left the site due to the knowledge i could not keep up the required daily activities. Well, as the new academic year aproaches, I think i will be returning. Please could someone give me a list of improvements made since I left (effectively easter).
I looked through the FAQ, but all it says is a list of things that haven't been done. In the list I noticed several elements on which i have pseudocode, so Kestas: if you would like me to assist with developement, the offer is here again...

Small code change
Added some functionality that'll let me verify these constant claims of people being the same player. It'll now be easier to know for sure whether or not two people really are the same player or whether they're just cooperating closely.

However as with all quick new code there may be bugs, so let me know if you see anything unusual.

If you're desperate to see you'll be able to see it in CVS once I commit the latest code, but I think it'd be counter productive to detail it right now.
No-one is being banned without good reason though, there's no mistake, if that's what you're wondering aoe3rules

>maybe he decided to play fair from now on?
He was using his multi-accounts today alamothe, and I don't think it matters whether someone is using multi-accounts in a particular game; there's no reason to use multi-accounts at all. (this is all krokodil was saying, no need to be rude about it)
I'd rather give people the benefit of the doubt and not have to worry about such a weird problem, but I let braddles/gisset/tiger off last time and it turns out I shouldn't have

Hmm, on a darker note, it seems that a lot of the multi-accounters have a tendency to bad mouth this site, and say that it is "second rate", "inept", and other such things. A few of them have also advocated dipBounced. I don't know why they are so malicious, but perhaps their multi-accounting is not to win, but to undermine the credibility of this site? No accusations here, just some speculation.

It seems that a lot of the multi-accounters are one rather sad individual! He can bad-mouth us all he wants, he's still only one person (however many he pretends to be). I had his card marked back in March when he was still gisset, and ruined a couple of my games with what at the time seemed inexplicable gameplay - now of course it all makes sense and I'm glad to have been vindicated.

Ug... I was in a game with Tiger... This is going to definately change things up (he was leading, though don't know if any other of his accounts was playing). It sure would be nice if there was a record of when someone takes over an spot in disorder.
dangermouse (5551 D)

Turns out the guy complaining and asking about other diplomacy sites to play on was gisset again, trying to get some petty revenge I guess.. I really hope this doesn't become an ongoing thing

I'm having to add a table to store IPs that are banned, really sad that I have to do this but I guess just a handful of people can ruin it for the majority of honest players (there are only 5 actual multi account players in all of the accounts above)
krokodil (823 D)
29 Aug 07 UTC
Jesus christ! I was in games with so many of those people. I suspected [and reported] a few but never that many.
Noodlebug (1812 D)
29 Aug 07 UTC
They can't ruin it if the code spots them early enough, they get kicked out of any games they start and other people quickly fill the civil disorders. It's just a minor inconvenience for the players and a major hassle for the administrators!

It is pointless and childish, perhaps understandable in the teenie brigade, but judging from the email addresses, one is 32 years old, another is a student at Oxford University..! You'd think they would act a little bit more like grown-ups.

Re Kestasjk's last post, I claim responsibility for all of the West accounts. That is because myself and four brothers were all playing PRIVATE games from the same computer. There are only four of us so some of us take two sides each. I really don't see that there should be a problem with this. The games we were playing were entitled West, West 2 etc and were just for our own amusement. If this site does not wish to support private games of this nature I will look elsewhere (which is a shame as I find the interface very user friendly here).

I used the Barbarossa account to play public games and have never used multi-accounting in a public game.

I would be very grateful if you would restart the banned accounts so that we can continue with our private games.

Thanks

If you wish to play private game on your computer, please download phpDiplomacy from SourceForge, install it on your computer and play there that kind of games.
For public games (on public hardware and software resources) you will be welcome, of course I think, with only one account to play with other people.
IMHO I think this would be the sense of a site like this.
Have fun.

bc2000 (990 D)

Not so hard, if you really want. I suggest using WebDeveloper as a WAMP: it makes all very simple.
I've made it and use my private installation to test.
figlesquidge (2131 D)

Out of interest, if all his other accounts have been banned, why is gisset75 still around?
Perhaps running a search through the database would be useful? Also, if instead of deleting them their details are changed, it should prevent errors caused by looking through old games and links. Alternatively, a simple boolean field for banned could be added, and names rewritten in links accordingly as well as the login checking the account is not banned...
alamothe (3367 D(B))

dangermouse (5551 D)
30 Aug 07 UTC
If Tom West's assertions are true, I'd agree with his reinstatement. (not that I actually have any power here). I see no reason why creating multi accounts to screw around in a private game where everyone knows whats up should be prevented.

Having just said that, perhaps a good reason not to do so would be to allow kestas to keep detection code relatively simple.
aoe3rules (949 D)

how about, when you first log on, you are redirected to the rules page and one of the rules is if you have multiple accounts to play private games you must declare it on the forum?
