It's different in that BYU's honor code forbids premarital sex. Statistically, there's no way to compare pre-graduation pregnancy rates. But I meant it lightheartedly.

I did some research on a few Mormon forums and it does in fact appear to be a thing students at BYU are doing in order to cognitive dissonance themselves into being able to have sex. Outside of religious, horny college students, though, this isn't a thing.

i actually am in practice at least but not in belief (I used to be one in belief also but then stopped. I'm still forced by my parents though.) Though this is not true at all. The reason why there are so many pregnancies at byu (i actually live around 30-45 minutes away from it) is that the religion encourages people to get married very early and have as many kids as possible because it will apparently be a trial having to raise children while not having a steady income and stuff like that. This is not true. Trust me i just got through a 1 hour class (after the 1 hour sacrament meeting and the 1 hour other class) about how you shouldn't be dating until you're 16 and even then you shouldn't be dating 1 on 1 or getting to serious. (I'm 16 by the way and had other teens from the age of 14-18 in the class also.)

well i guess not as many as possible but it wants you to have large families. (families with 6-8 kids are not uncommon and i know of families with up to 14 children)

When you are sexually pure, you prepare yourself to make and keep sacred covenants in the temple. You prepare yourself to build a strong marriage and to bring children into the world as part of an eternal and loving family. You protect yourself from the spiritual and emotional damage that come from sharing sexual intimacy outside of marriage. You also protect yourself from harmful diseases. Remaining sexually pure helps you to be confident and truly happy and improves your ability to make good decisions now and in the future.

The Lord’s standard regarding sexual purity is clear and unchanging. Do not have any sexual relations before marriage, and be completely faithful to your spouse after marriage. Make a personal commitment to be sexually pure. By your words and actions, encourage others to do the same. paragraphs 3 4 5 and 8 show what kind ofthings the church expects you to do and paragraph 4 especially shows that this would not be ok by their standards.

As a former Mormon, I can confirm that this is complete BS from a doctrinal standpoint, though it also seems like the sort of BS rationalization someone might try to make. I was raised LDS and spent the better part of my childhood with the goal of becoming the next prophet before I decided otherwise. I still practice many of the principles of their gospel as generally good life advice, and I know pretty much everything about the doctrine up to the point of the endowment ceremony in their temples, which members are instructed to keep secret in any case.
