FINALLY HOLIDAY!!
Well, I gave it all daily these last 4 weeks causing me to have a 9.2 now, and the holiday is only a week, but I've never been so happy with a holiday. Now if you'll excuse me I'll go sleep for 21 hours now, too bad I have a party then...

After all the fun lately, maybe we should start quoting the best comments of the year?
Also, before everyone does it, are you allowed to quote yourself or does someone else have to nominate your comment?

The Shutdown Crisis Miraculously Averted!

Hey guys! Current crisis is over, we can go back to our normal routine, bc everything is now 100% a-okay, fine and jim dandy down in DC.
Coupla issues with this whole thing, but I need to sleep.

Put it to a vote!
The votes are clearly there, at least 24 in the count provided in the link below. the Republican leadership continues to refuse to put a clean bill to a vote.

Heck, Krellin was excited about it. He and Draugnar were on here saying how government was cut back to what it should be and it wasn't harming anybody but 'useless' government employees.
Jack_Klein (897 D)

Yep, standard Krellin. Crush his assertions under facts, and he runs away.

This is either the third or fourth time he's done this, and it still amuses me.

http://www.politico.com/story/2013/10/senate-update-debt-ceiling-government-shutdown-98368.html

OK, looks like I gave Boehner a little too much credit. All of today was wasted on a House bill that couldn't pass the Senate and Obama would veto. However, there is a Senate deal and I still really think Boehner will give up entirely and pass the bill on House Democrat votes with unwhipped Republicans along too. There's really no other option anymore. Even these people who think Obamacare is the absolute worst thing ever can't think it's worse than the global economic ramifications of not being sure we can pay bondholders on time.

Invictus, I hope sanity prevails in the House.

And for that matter, I welcome the return of the sane Republicans. One can do business with, and we can move this country forward with them.
Invictus (240 D)
16 Oct 13 UTC
It's not a matter of sanity, it's one of smartness. The country really does need radical reform. Obamacare really is a millstone on the economy. It's just that these incompetent House politicians go about things in the worst possible manner. They act like Zombie Reagan just won 50 states and they have 400 seats in the House and 90 in the Senate.

As I keep saying, what they're doing is magical thinking. You have to win elections before you can attempt to get structural reforms done. Passing around pieces of paper in the biggest room in the Capitol that the people in the second biggest room and the guy in an office down the street will never sign on to doesn't cut it.
Putin33 (111 D)
16 Oct 13 UTC
Millstone around the economy? The Republican forced spending cuts have cost the economy multiple GDP points. Republicans never had any credibility on the economy, and they certainly don't have any credibility on 'radical reform'.

Want to lower federal spending on healthcare related 'entitlements', allow the programs to bargain over drug prices. This is what every single payer system does. But Republicans have blocked every single effort to do this, all the while their mouthpieces boast about getting drugs in Canada. They don't want reform, they don't care about costs, they just want to scare people into privatizing popular programs.
Putin33 (111 D)
16 Oct 13 UTC
I, for one, don't want 'sane' Republicans to come back. They were never sane to begin with. They unleashed this tea party beast very consciously and have done nothing to rein it in. They're likely to use the Tea Party to try and force the center of gravity to the right, and get the Democrats to accept anything so long as it doesn't involve complete economic suicide. The Republicans need to become extinct as a political entity. They lost any right to rule ever again, or even be in opposition. The Republican brand is permanently tarnished, when it was already a badly damaged brand for watching as the country burned in 2008, which followed on the heels of corruption scandal after corruption scandal in 2006, which followed the Iraq quagmire which they lied to get us into.

The Republicans are disintegrating rather than recovering from the malaise of the Bush years. This period of hysteria we're witnessing is the last gasp of the 'Reagan Revolution', and the requiem of the Grand Old Party.

Hopefully they won't kill us all while they spiral into oblivion.
Invictus (240 D)
16 Oct 13 UTC
A Republican sunrise is just a president and a period of steady economic growth away. With a governor as the nominee 2016's a good a year as any for the GOP. Chris Christie's coming landslide shows it's the incompetent Congress, not bedrock Republican policies, which the country doesn't support.

We needn't take the fact that a communist rabidly hates the Republican party too seriously. It'd be time to worry if Putin33 started having any common ground with the GOP.
Putin33 (111 D)
16 Oct 13 UTC
I'll let you believe that. After all, your political predictions are 0 for the century so far. Keep them coming. If you really think Chris Christie isn't going to be eaten alive in the primaries and/or move so far to the right he's indistinguishable from the rednecks he's trying to separate himself from, let me introduce you to your last nominee: Mitt Romney.

As for Republicans and "steady economic growth", when's the last time that happened?

You can pull the commie card all you want, your party is run by a bunch of clowns and you've only just now realized this when they're on the brink of defaulting us and the economic sabotage is too obvious to ignore anymore. Predictus talking to anybody about being taken seriously when you have Cruz & Rand Paul running the country over a cliff is flat out hilarity.
Invictus (240 D)
16 Oct 13 UTC
Again, no surprise a communist hates Republicans. If I've had wrong predictions before (and it's nowhere near how Putin33 keeps pointing out in his new weird obsession), the idea that the GOP will become irrelevant is set to be a far worse one.

All the party's problems are one president away from being solved, especially if that president outperforms Obama on the economic front. After this scorching defeat due to incompetent politicians in Congress enabled by the krellins of the world, the adults will get back in charge in the GOP. We needn't heed the gloating jeremiads of a twenty-something American communist, the most pathetically misinformed of creatures.
Putin33 (111 D)
16 Oct 13 UTC
Gloating jeremiads? You're predicting an imminent Christie "landslide". Economic performance as a barometer for anything your party does is a joke, because you've spent the last several years deliberately undermining the economic recovery and inflicting numerous unnecessary self-inflicted wounds. You also demographically cannot win a Presidential election, even if your party wasn't bonkers. Where is this landslide going to come from? What blue states are you suddenly going to turn red just because a smart-mouthed New Jersey governor is your nominee, even if he gets to be the nominee? How are you going to suddenly win back the Latino vote that you've happily alienated over the past decade? How about the gender gap? How's that going to work when you've established in swing states hardline anti-choice governorships? How are you going to get retirees to sign on to gutting Medicare & Social Security like you want to?

This is the height of magical thinking. This is Chris Christie will wave a magical wand and everything will be better level magical thinking. If you really think the fix is going to be this easy, "god" bless you. No amount of irrelevant ad hominems is going to make this mess of yours go away.

Now commence the "nobody listens to communists" argumentum ad popularum shit again. You're much better at grandstanding than analysis.
Putin33 (111 D)
16 Oct 13 UTC
Also I never predicted Republican extinction or irrelevance. I only hoped for it. I can easily see gerrymandering keeping them in office as they fight a civil war over the next several years. However, that's not inevitable, as 94 shows.
steephie22 (182 D(S))

Putin33: """Shut up because you're you" rejoinders here?"

It's a response to the "all Americans are stupid liars" theme that Steephie has running here. I can take that talk from people from countries that actually operate well and vote responsibly, or have a reason to be aggrieved at Washington, but the Netherlands isn't one that comes to mind. Not even close.

And it's usually the same people who complain that the topics discussed here are too American-centric, yet never bring up or criticize their own country."

I'll try to tear that load of shit apart sentence by sentence:
1st sentence: that is not my theme, that is not what I think and that's not what I argued nor what I implied. The whole sentence has little to do with anything I said. I just think it's crazy that leaders of both sides dare to shut down a government and I say that I think joining one side and telling the world the other side is to blame is wrong.

Sentence 2: What's wrong with our government? We have no shutdowns, our bureaucracy isn't way too big or way too small and we get what we vote for.

More importantly: what do I have to do with my government when it comes to opinion? Might sound stupid but I have no choice so far. I can't vote and if I leave for another country an Amber alert will follow. Same as in America.

3rd sentence: see sentence 2.

4th sentence: I never complained about too American-centric topics, in fact people complain that I focus on America too much myself, which is, as you may have noticed, the opposite.

Then the last part of that last sentence: I have brought up and criticised my own country and I'll do it again just to be thorough:

1. Too much complications when leveling the economy a bit; it's hard to figure out what actually happens because of it.
2. The king: expensive, in contrast with laws and norms and values about equal treatment and all, and, in my opinion, pretty useless.

Can't think of anything else now but I've complained about much more :)
At the end of the day though, there are worse places to be. In my personal opinion the US are slightly worse places to be. Places like Hawaï are nice though.

So, to summarize: I simply can't find anything in that post that has to do with me or my expressed opinions and arguments except my nickname and nationality.

Are you sure you mean me? If so, point out how I can be connected to any of what you said other than my nickname and nationality please.

18 times, the Senate requested to go to budget conference. House refused.

The House took the budget and the nation hostage to try to pass their partisan plan in defiance of the last election results.
krellin (80 DX)
16 Oct 13 UTC
Jack Klein is a lying peice of shit, as are all Democrats.

You request to go to reconciliation AFTER you vote on a budget. Since Harry Reid *never* votes on budgets, there is nothing to go to conference about.

You lose again, liar Jack_Klein.

This video might be helpful in explaining which side is really in control on this issue:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/10/13/1246895/--BREAKING-House-Republicans-Have-Rigged-The-Shutdown-VIDEO
Jack_Klein (897 D)
16 Oct 13 UTC
Then why did the House all of a sudden want to go to conference AFTER the shutdown? The Senate amended and sent back several budgets, and wanted to go to conference BEFORE the shutdown. The House refused until the shutdown was in. And weird, the Senate isn't going to discuss the budget with a gun to their head. Hostage taking is un-American and also disgusting. House Republicans should be (and increasing are) ashamed of their juvenile behavior over the last few weeks.

Keep trying to spin this one, but it was a Republican conceived hostage taking of our Nation to attempt to force their views despite not having the votes to do so. It failed from the start, and I think after the votes are tallied today, we'll see it failed entirely.

The far right republicans were THRILLED about the shutdown at first. Thrilled. Many of them regret being so enthusiastic. Its funny... the American people actually do want their government to work.

How does it feel to be shilling for an entirely failed domestic terrorist plot? I'd be embarrassed if I was you.
Jack_Klein (897 D)

And lo and behold, the insane right wing is defeated. For now.

You know, it would have been simpler, and less costly to the nation for the House Republicans to just pass a goddamn budget or CR that would have kept the government open while they negotiate.

Or just, you know, taken it to the joint conference one one of the many times the Senate requested it.

Thankfully, the Krellin Republicans suffered a brutal defeat. Its good for you, its good for me, and its good for the nation.
josunice (3702 D(S))

Similar vote would have happened in the house a couple of weeks ago on a clean bill, if allowed... a vote for a Republican is a vote for the fringe, as they allowed less than 25% of the house to wag the dog...
Jack_Klein (897 D)
17 Oct 13 UTC
I think there will be a realignment election for the Republicans next fall.

Or at least I hope so.
